Get a 3DS! Here's a few reasons:
- The launch games were definitely mediocre for the most part, but the system is starting to pick up steam now. Ocarina of Time 3D just came out (which is undeniably the best game so far and should be your first purchase), Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D comes out in like 2 days I think and looks like a lot of fun (plus it has a demo for Revelations!) and there are a couple more great games coming later in the summer, like Cave Story 3D. Not to mention there are some other great games already out like Super Street Fighter IV 3D and Dead or Alive: Dimensions. Also the eShop just launched a few weeks ago, and there are plenty of good games on that as well. Classic Game Boy games, some great DSi games, and you can get Excitebike 3D and Pokedex 3D absolutely for free until July 7th!
- There are some seriously amazing looking games coming this fall. Star Fox 64 3D, the new Super Mario, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Kart 3D, Resident Evil: Revelations, and more that I'm not even thinking of. The 3DS will be THE system to own this fall.
- As for your last question, the 3D can hurt your eyes if you play for too long at one time. But that's what the 3D slider is for. If your eyes get kind of strained, just turn the 3D off, which you can do at any time even if you're in the middle of playing a game. The 3D is definitely a cool feature, but it is nice to turn it off once and a while.
So I hope all that helped. I've had a 3DS for two weeks and I love it so far. If you want real games to play on a real game system, get a 3DS.
Yeah you should definitely get the 3DS mostly because the iPod Touch isn't even a dedicated gaming system and most of the games on it are **** which is why they're so cheap. Even though the 3DS is a dedicated gaming device you can still do more things on it like take pictures, play music, browse the internet, etc.
you should get a 3DS :) I've had mine since launch and I love it! The 3D effect doesn't even bother me, plus the eShop is amazing :D You can play DS and DSiWare games on it too xD the only thing I don't like about the 3DS is that the internet browser is junk. But other than that, it's an awesome handheld that everyone should have :D As for the iPod Touch, it's good for listening to music and browsing the internet on the go, but I still say the 3DS is better :P
If gaming is your main and/or only reason, then get the 3DS. But if you also like the idea of recording video and taking photos while traveling as well as surfing the web with a nice browser as well as do other things, then you might want the Ipod Touch. If I wasn't getting an HTC Evo 3D, then I would be getting an Ipod Touch myself. But as far as just games, the 3DS is the one to get out of those two for sure. And here is a link to give you an idea of what to expect if you do decide on the Ipod Touch. http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/27234363/the-iphoneitouch-recommendation-thread---131-games-56k-updated-may.11?tag=topics%3Btitle
I don't have an ipod touch, but I do have an ipad, and I play more games on that than I do on my 3DS.
Also, you have to consider all the other features the ipod touch has that the 3DS does not. It's capable of a lot more than the 3DS is capable of.
If you just want a device strictly for games and don't mind spending $30-40 a pop, then get a 3DS. But if you like simple games for on the go and are relatively inexpensive, and want to be able to do more than just game, then I'd go with an ipod touch. Also, there are a lot of good free games in the itunes store, and free is always a plus.
One more thing - you can't really expect to get an unbiased answer on the 3DS board. Obviously most people will say to get the 3DS.
If you're just interested in games, right now an iPod Touch would suit you better, but barely - just keep in mind the smaller, bite size games that are available for the platform.
If you're interested in a multifunction device, get an iPod Touch. Its web browser is leagues ahead of the 3DS, music and video functions are far better, and it functions well as a Netflix or Skype device too (not even counting the hundreds of other useful apps). It's also significantly smaller than the 3DS and actually portable without carrying a backpack around.
The 3DS will eventually be a better gaming device, and is certainly a more capable device on paper due to physical buttons, but it hasn't come into its own just yet.
edit - I should also add that I own both a fourth gen iPod Touch (64GB) and a 3DS.
[QUOTE="Sathnor"]most of the games on it are **** which is why they're so cheap.GAMESHARQThat is a pretty ignorant statement right there. You clearly don't know much about the games in the itunes store.
No, it's not an ignorant statement. I've had an iPod Touch for over 3 years and I've downloaded a grand total of 4 games on it. Count 'em, 4. And I've probably played those 4 games for a combined maybe 2 or 3 hours. The iPod Touch is great for puzzle games and quick bursts of curing boredom with games like Angry Birds, but that's it. The iTunes Store just doesn't have real video games on it. There are some decent RPGs and action games on there, sure. But they are often ruined by poor touch screen controls. Video Games are not meant to be played exclusively with a touch screen. If you want to play real games, you need a handheld that was designed for gaming. Mobile games will never be superior to real gaming handhelds.
In my personnel opinion no one should ever buy anything from Apple, but I'm sure you don't really care about that, just feels better to say it. For a pure gaming device the 3DS is way better, mainly due to DS compatibility. Obviously the current 3DS library isn't the best right now but it will soon get much better. However if you want a device that plays cheap buttonless games as well as thousands of apps the ipod Touch is probably better. It really depends on what you need. Really the only thing I can stand to play on buttonless devices (I have both an Android and a Zune HD) are racing games with tilt steering and a few puzzle games.
I've had an iPod Touch for over 3 years and I've downloaded a grand total of 4 games on it. Count 'em, 4.SuperzoneWell there's your problem. ;) There are dozens of great games that use the touch screen or gyro well, and just as many where virtual buttons don't hurt the experience at all. Many games are absolute garbage, of course, but the same is true of any system (even the 3DS).
