I currently have a PS3. I've been wanting a Wii for NSMBW, mostly because I played the NES Mario Bros 3 when I was a kid and the nostalgia factor is high for me. But some of my friends have told me that the Wii won't be so good unless I often have people coming over who are gonna play with me.

Thoughts ?

Wii is my only console this gen, and on single player alone it's been more than enough. SMG is one of my favourite games ever, and NSMBWii is great, as well as Zelda and Metroid. There are plenty of great single player games out there, and if you have friends to play with, you can waste hours on SSBB and Mario Kart

While some of the best Wii games are indeed better with more people, Brawl and Mario Kart good examples, there are a lot of great games on the single player aspect too, like SMG, Metroid Prime Collection, Okami, Punch Out, Monster Hunter Tri or Little King Story, you should check some of this games to see if the Wii is a console for you.

I mostly play games on the Wii alone and I found it still fun but usally not as fun without other people. I play online multiplayer alot too. But overall it's worth to buy it for if you will mainly play it by yourself.

The wii is fine for single player use, although for games like NSMB, brawl and mario kart playing with friends is more fun (brawl and mariokart have onliene but its like playing witha cpu).

You can always break out your old gamecube games. Thats what I do. Also another good single player game on wii is the Resident Evil Wiimake (think its called archives) Oh and RE4 is the bomb on wii. its reall cheap too, like 20 dollars must have.

Besides Super Smash Bros. Brawl occasionally, I pretty much never play any game on the Wii in multiplayer mode, ever.

So I would hope it was. :P

The Wii does have a lot of games meant for playing in groups, but it also has a lot of great single-player gems in its library. To name a few:

-The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
-Okami
-Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure
-No More Heroes 1 and 2
-Resident Evil 4 (if you haven't already played it on another console)

Generally, you buy the console for the games, not the other way around. Look around, gather up a few titles that you think interest you and finagle a way to try them out without buying anything. Once you have a final list, look at it and think about whether getting to play the games is worth the money involved in getting a Wii. Simple.

A Wii is worth it for single player use because it has a lot of great single player games such as Metroid Prime Trilogy,Okami,Resident Evil 4,Bully,and so on.

Yes, it's worth it. Multiplayer does enhance it just as any other console but it's single player experience is still an absolute bargain for the greatest console of all time. Those who say no, it's not worth it: Your opinion is wrong.

The Wii is essentially a single player console, unlike the HD consoles where the big focus and big games often involve online multiplayer. The big fish for the Wii outside of a few standouts like Mario Kart and Brawl are single player games. I guess your friends meant the party games need people over, well that is the same for party games on all consoles. But the bulk of big market Wii games are single player. You only have to worry about having people over if you only buy games like Wii Sports Resort.

It's a game console with single player games so therefore it works fine as a single player console. I play just as many single player games on it as I do my PS3 and 360. There are some pretty good exclusives on it just like any other system.

It is for me. I even find Wii Sports Resort to be fun by myself, but games like that are always better with friends. Like with any system, though, there are plenty of games to enjoy by yourself. If you decide to get one be sure to pick up Monster Hunter Tri. You will get more than enough fun by yourself and online with that game.

By the way, I have a PS3 as well. Can't go wrong with the PS3/Wii combo.;)

It's a great console for single player, even if you just stuck to the big Nintendo games like Mario, Zelda and Metroid it'd be worth it imo, and there's much more games than them!

I was a Wii only owner for 3 years and I had no problem with the single player games it had to offer. Zelda, Metroid, Mario, Okami, No More Heroes, Bully and a lot others are great single player games. Games like Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Sports won't be as fun alone. So I'd say it's worth it, if you do get one, wait for the black Wii.

Haha I'm nice to the Wii in general! It's just in the silly world of System Wars no one can really have a moderate opinion. Everything is either "best thing evar!" or "Utter junk!". I kinda argue against both extremes :P

Like the others said, there are plenty of games on the wii that is enjoyable with someone else or alone.

What is Wii MotionPlus ?

Tony_Montana

Wii motion plus is an add-on/accessory to your wii remote. It increases the precision and accuracy in your movements to the game. It will ONLY work for games that allow it, like Wii Sports Resort, Red Steel 2 and the future Zelda Wii. It WILL NOT improve gameplay for older games like Zelda Twilight Princess or any newer game like Super Mario Galaxy 2 that doesn't allow it's functions.

The Black Wii is said to be release on May 9th. Just one week to wait. :)

I would rather wait one week since it will include Wii Sports Resort and Motion Plus, a greater bundle than just the original Wii Sports.

wut, I thought Wii was _the_ single player experience because of the lack of online

Imo, it lacks those games you play over and over for lots of hours (Dynasty Warriors!, good sports games, open world games like GTA, RDR were you can fool around) Sure there's Brawl and MKWii but you need people over for those.

But as I'm more interested in the awesome games which you only play through once to get the experience like Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Metal Gear, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda etc. Imo, Wii wins in this category. For example I have only put in 60 hours on my favorite game of all time which is 1 playthrough of SMG.

That reminds me! Trackmania Wii might be the first Wii game which I will play over and over, finally my Wii is not just gonna collect dust! xD

Your opinion is so wrong that even the word wrong itself is an understatement. Actually, it's fact. You are factually wrong. Don't want to call if fact, then your opinion is wrong. Woops, my bad: understatement on my part. Saying you're wrong factually or on opinion is an understatement.

@wiifan001: I did not understand but ok then... :P

@pokemondude2012: If you classify the Wii as "the worst console ever," then WHY THE HECK ARE YOU DOING IN THE WII FORUMS?! I seriously hate people who go on forums and bash consoles/games. Do us a favor and go to system wars. -__-

The Wii has plenty of good single-player games, including Super Mario Galaxy (and, undoubtedly, the upcoming Super Mario Galaxy 2), The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, The Conduit, and others.

Your friends are dead wrong. The Wii has plenty of games that has awesome single player games. In fact, I think it has better single player than my 360 to tell you the truth, because I usually play online when I game on the 360, but I usually play alone on my Wii because I hate the friends codes and online isn't that great. Other than the party games, the Wii has good single player games. Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Sin & Punishment 2, Metroid Other M, Super Mario Galaxy 2, Monster Hunter Tri, A Boy and His Blob...you name it, it's good stuff.

I really never used Wiis online multiplayer until Monster Hunter Tri, as for the other multiplayer I really only play when friends are over every now and then. One game that is a completely different experience with multiplayer and alone is New Super Mario Brothers Wii.
