So ive encountered a moral dilemma recently due to the fact that the upcoming wii releases are not really exciting me and the XBOX 360 just released their price-dropped systems.

I have been a nintendo fan for as long as Ive been a gamer and Ive never owned another party system before so my question is, if I want a variety of pretty high quality games with alot of different genres, should i drop 300 bucks for an XBOX 360, or just tough out the fall with wii until better games start coming out?

by the way im only 17 so im not made of money and assurance of a good value is a plus

I suggest dropping the $300 for a 360, if you can afford it.

very good point that game looks awesome

but a big contributing factor to wanting the x box is the whole "current gen" thing that the wii and ps2 dont really offer

plus i kinda hate sony so..yeah

unreasonable system loyalites strikes again

id get a ps3 over the 360 any day, for one the blue ray-ness, for two the free online, for three the PS2 had alot of good 3rd parties on board, so i'd assume the ps3 does or will have SOME good games coming

I can see the Bu Ray argument and the free Internet and everything else you mentioned about the pros of the PS3 including the fact that it is just a bad@$$ piece of hardware

but the fact is that since Im a transitional nintendo lover, I am transferring from super mario galaxy games to games like Resistence 2 instantly if I get a PS3 and I dont know if I could handle something like that

The lack of real variety on the PS3 is pretty apparent when all I see is relistic FPS's, realistic Gran Turismo games, and multiplatform games that everyone gets. I just think that If i get stuff like banjo kazooie on one side and fallout 3 on the other, I get a perfect mix of "kiddie stuff" (and by the I mean just fun stuff) and the more "hardcore" blow peoples heads off kind of stuff

but its not like there isnt ANYTHING, there is ratchet and clank, wich was a blast for the PS2. im pretty sure that burnout paradise was for ps3 too, i mean, the 360 has more colorful games, but all in all they have about the same selection as the ps3. granted, the 360 has been out for alot longer than the ps3, so the possibility for more games is very aware. I like the ps3's controller more, not because of the motion stuff, but just the feel of it compared to the still rather large 360 gamepad. i've never really been able to comfotably grasp the controllers, although if you needed a personal opinion of your own you can go to gamestop and try both out. I also like the playstation menu more than the 360 dashboard, its very easy to navigate and understand.

Im not gonna lie its pretty awesome to hear that there are people in similar situations like this

Its really wierd to think that I may be "moving on" from nintendo a little bit after quite a while(of my lifetime anyway)

I just get so bummed when something sick is announced and I get to wait for a rushed crap-def waggle version of it

my main obstacle once i move my wii out of the way is telling my parents that the wii got a massive firmware update so it got way bigger and changed its name. hahah

because no joke my parents would flip a b#%!h if i had 2 consoles at the same time

XboxWii60 or PSWii both are great combinations. I have all three of the systems and up until three months ago I played the 360 most frequently. The arcade games for the 360 offer the best downloadable content out of all three systems (virtual console is great, but they're games I've beaten in my younger years).

The PS3 is the best hardware out there, but the 360 has some great exclusive titles. You did, however, express concern about variety. The exclusive titles on BOTH 360 and PS3 are very similar action/blood/guts type of gameplay, this is something that is very difficult to distance oneself from (unless you consider Wii, which you already own). "Kiddie" games are fantastic on both the 360 and PS3. 360 has Banjo-Kazooie and Viva Pinata to name a few, but PS3 has Ratchet and Clank and a fantastic back catalogue of PS2 games if you buy a backwards compatible PS3.

Now I know you mentioned a rabid loyalty for Nintendo and a biting hatred towards Sony, but if you are about the games, you really owe yourself the treat of experiencing some of the greatest games ever conceived by man - and the majority of those were released for the PS2.

Fallout 3 (which you also mentioned) will be a multiplatform title, as will Final Fantasy XIII, but Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still exclusive to PS3.

I love all 3 systems for what they bring to the table, I just find that the PS3 is the most versatile and future-proof of the 3 (and, for your information, I don't own a single FPS for the PS3). The 360 doesn't seem to have very many upcoming exclusives that you'd be interested in (judging from what little you've written thus far).

Whatever your decision ends up being, I really think you'll be pleased. I was in a similar situation as you about a year ago. Hopefully the Wii starts getting more developer support - and a new Zelda title.

one more thing to consider: if you're the type to play a lot of online multiplayer then the Wii60 combo would be the way to go, even though you have to pay for the online through XBox Live, it's a faster and more stable environment. The PS3's online has been a little buggy since launch, but they are making huge improvements.

Exactly what "kiddie/fun stuff" on 360 are you looking at? Most games are multiplat. On the other hand, LittleBigPlanet isn't! :D

well... that pretty much sums up this entire post Id say

because Im sure you know how impossible it is to get a fair analysis of systems these days with fanboyism as rampant as it is and that basically did the impossible

I guess I better put a little more research into it then and maybe get a little more open-minded about sony for once in my life

Man I just wish it were as easy as just pickin both of em up and gettin the best of all 3 worlds

ClicketyClick has a very valid exclusive title that I'm surprised no one else had mentioned. "Little Big Planet" may be a huge exclusive for PS3 in the "kiddie" department.

I do realize that fanboyism is extremely rampant nowadays (it wasn't even this bad when it was SNES versus Genesis!). Just do a little independent research and really lookm at all the features each system offers and ask yourself if you'd truly utilize them. Best of luck to you.

Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise is exclusive, but it's basically a rehash of the original - it's been described as an expansion pack. You can have a comparable experience on DS with Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise. Don't neglect looking at titles on PSN and XBLA. AceJakk has all three systems and prefers PS3. I have only Wii and prefer PS3. There you go: no bias! :P But really, look at the list of fun, accessible games and see which plat has more that appeals to you and more on the horizon.

If you got the money go for it. I started out with the Wii, then also got a PS3 for the blu-ray and then the 360 for its exclusives. They are all good systems. PS3 is probably the worst system game wise, but it still has some great exclusive games (mostly all first party). The Wii's got Nintendo games, some very unique games and is the best party system ever created. The 360 is the best traditional console out there. I'm a huge Nintendo fan and I still consider the Wii my favorite system, but you'd be missing out on many great games if you only stick with the Wii. I think everyone should own a Wii and one of the other systems. Either go with the 360 for lots of great games or the PS3 with some great games and the blu-ray player.

sorry if I came off like I just wanted another system to get all of the "kiddie" games I couldn't get on the wii

i mean I've kinda grown up accustomed to that kind of game for the most part, but my decision of what I want isnt entirely based off of that by any means. Like you have all suggested, quality of online and games and the media aspects and all of those things are also really important. but yeah I realize that if I wanted a system without tons of "next gen" FPS games and stuff Id just stick with a wii. (and by that I mean if i wanted a system with only like 1 or 2 good fps's, Id stick with a wii)

on a side note, im just gonna put it out there that viva pinata looks like it has no real objective to it and seems kinda pointless. I also think that little big planet looks like a huge potential for awesome user content and stuff but I still dont think theres much to the game besides that to be honest. just gonna put that out there

I bought a 360 in addition to my Wii recently. IMO, 360+Wii is the best combination, unless you have the money to spend on a high-quality gaming PC. And even then, I think I'd prefer 360+Wii over PC+Wii.

i think it depends on how much you spend on games. if you geth the odd release every 2 months or so then 360 is good but if your one of those people who purchase games like right after you clock it or its released then ps3 will be better since you can import for way cheaper

It is a true dilemma. Look at it his way:

The 360 has way better graphics, and that's it. I would prefer to play fighting and driving-games on the 360, but as soon as you reach the platform genre, then Nintendo has always been the leading systems.

If you DO get a Wii then you should get Super Mario Galaxy and Okami, as those two are games that really puts all the Wii's features to good use.

The Wii is by far the most innovative, fun and interactice of the two, but the 360 is probably the best at fighting and driving games and has some of the best upcoming titles. But i think Nintendo is going to reveal some cool titles shortly. You know, with christmas coming and all that.

I own a Wii, so it ain't hard to figure out which of the two i am rooting for ;-)

As the forum header explains, discussions about consoles other than the Wii are only allowed in the System Wars forum. Hopefully you've gotten enough information in this thread to make your decision, but if not, feel free to repost this in System Wars. Sorry to cut off the conversation, but that's the rule. :(

Good luck with your decision.
