Is anyone else concerned that the Wii is heading a very "mini-game" type direction?  I mean, they're fun and it's cool for now, I like playing stero-typically "cool" games like...uhh...star wars, fable, prince of persia, god of war, etc.  The only Wii game that gave me that so far was Zelda..which was a pretty big let down of a game for me.

That aside, look at most of the games that are out...rayman, elebits, banana blitz, wii play, wii sports, ssx blur and sonic(REALLY good games...just that racing can only take a game so far...)...and so forth.  Even trauma center is kind of one big mini game.  I don't know how intriguing the story is...but the gameplay, like the surgeries and stuff, they kind of lack depth...just like most of the games I just listed, with the possible exception of Blur.

The only "cool"ish games I see coming out are Metroid, Day of Crisis...and that's really just about it from what I know.  If mario galaxy is going to be anything like super mario 64 or paper mario...then it falls under that mini-game type feel.  Even super smash is very mini-game oriented.  Also..the new fire embelem game coming out...lol well I like ot be able to actually move the guy I'm playing...not through squares and stuff.

I was looking forward to Dragon Quest for a while...but it's first person, and that's pretty much the entire reason i avoided Oblivion.  I just can't handle first person non-shooters.

Does anyone else kind of feel like the wii has a very one-sided mini-game lacklustre feel right now?  Are there anygames I don't know about that kind of fall under the games I like to play?

It sounds like you're being too picky, with avoiding Dragon Quest and games like that. Super Mario 64 is totally not a mini-game type game.

Wii`s target audience is new gamers who love those kind of games. Wii wasn`t built for the mainstream, but I wouldn`t call arcade/mini games lackluster either because they`re fun in short spurts.

Ok fine dragon quest is my own little nit pick...but supermario64 definately had a childish mini-game overtone to it. The only game that pulled that off te best in history..was lego star wars. It has the epic and powerful feel of star wars...but its lego! It's very fun and cool at the same time. I love the sound of lightsabres, pod racers, and all that stuff. Well my point still stands...Wii = hella mini games.

Fun in short spurts...after which you get the feeling I have..as in you want a decent 30 hour action adventure game...that isn't zelda. Target audience isn't entirely casual gamers who like short spurts of fun..zelda was a 40-70 hour, fairly epic and serious game. Im 100% sure the wii's massive success has A LOT to do with Zelda being out with it at launch. Casual gamers wouldn't go for Zelda.

I'm not worried. I was going to agree that they do have a lot of these "mini game" type games cuz they are looking for a different kind of marketing strategy than before, but when you started saying smg and tc were mini gamish, you lost me. I think you are being to picky.

Make sure you own more than one console, its a very diverse ''apple`s and oranges'' generation this time round.

I'm honestly not worried at all. Sure, there are many games out right now that have that "mini-game" feel, but that's not how it's always going to be. We are going through the post-Christmas drought and this years E3 has not occurred yet, so don't worry. When E3 rolls around I'm sure there will be a great number of games announced that coincide with your tastes. Just give it time.

And how does Super Mario 64 have a "mini-game" feel?

Zelda is for the fans that would have got a Wii regardless, in my opinion its Wii Sports that sells the system to its target ''joe casual'' and his girlfriend ''plain jane non-gamer but thinks its cool''.

Not worried. People just don't know what to do. They get handed a system with a controller no one has ever seen before and have to start making games for it. The easiest way is to just make minigame type games, but we all know that they won't last in the long run. It's an evolutionary phase. You won't start out getting tons of great titles and end with tons of great titles. There's going to be garbage in between and alot of garbage to start and not just for Wii but for PS3 and Xbox 360 and they do not have any excuse like "Oh I didn't know what other kind of game to make for this system because its so new". They are not new, they just make more of the same but with shinier graphics. Wii developers will be finding out that more of the same can't work on the wii, they have to try something different.

Wii does its own thing, the other systems do their own thing. If you want more serious games then you`ll need something as well as Wii.

I'm not worried really. I think that great single player games will come, but as of now I think the reason for all the Mini-games is that they are trying to showcase what the Wii-mote is capable of and experiment with them to get both the developers and players used to it. I don't expect to see a whole lot more mini games coming out for Wii like it was for the past few months. It'll get better from here!

I see your point. It defintley seems like most the games out are mini games. (Even Zelda really)

Personally I like that. I play video games casually. I probably play our Wii maybe 2 nights a week. Online games for me are just too much of a commitment. They even tend to become more of a dogmatic religion with some people.

I hope the Wii does make games that satisfy you. I am not worried even though there are not any games I really wanna go out & buy right now.

I had the same fear when the DS came out. We are prolly gonna head through a one year of these types of games before the "system" corrects itself and we get much less of them. Game developers are feeling out the system, and these types of games do lead to much better ones down the road.
