Is Brawl online really this bad? How about Reflex?

So, I've never played Brawl online. Only Wii game I play online is Mario Kart Wii, which plays as smooth as possible. My buddy who lives a few hours away got a Wii for christmas, and he bought Brawl for it. So, we excitedly swapped codes as we've been duking it out in Smash Bros. since the original. We get a game going, and...holy lag. Now, I've heard that Brawl can be laggy, but I didn't think it was that bad. 2 minute matches took about 5 minutes! Needless to say, we called off the gaming after the third lag-filled match. Lame. He's gonna pick up Mario Kart next week for some smooth multiplayer.

Now, he also got MWR, and he says it's been pretty smooth for him so far. Has Reflex ever had any lag issues? I'd like to play online with the guy, but not if it's a lagfest.

Reflex is one of the best running online Wii games.

It connects instantly and there's almost never lag. That's on wireless too.

Awesome. It's a real let down about Brawl, but shooting him will have to suffice XP

1 on 1 works pretty well if you play with people from your friend's list. Four people on four different Wiis is kind of laggy. Friend's list matches allow a lot of options, like playing with a buddy locally and another friend online. Plus, you can change everything, like how long the matches will be, playing stock matches and all the other options available for offline multiplayer. I played a five hours marathon with a friend here and another friend online and it was a flawless experience.

Random matches are incredibly hard to find; some are kind of laggy, some work ok.

I was playing 1v1 with a buddy registered to the friends list, and it was extremely laggy. Like I said, a 2 minute match lasted almost 5 minutes to complete, just because of lag. My internet connection is fast, as is my buddy's. Needless to say, wasn't impressed :/ We'll just stick to playing it locally should he visit.

That's really weird. Were any of you or any of your families/roommates downloading something?

Nope. I was the only one making active use of the connection at that time, same at my buddy's end.

Played the game with a buddy from New York.

I live in Oklahoma.

Gameplay was just as smooth as if he was right next to me.

It depends on your Connection really. If your Friend has bad connection then you too will have bad connection.

Reflex is absolutely sick online. Easily the best online Wii experience I've had yet.

Tried Brawl again with my buddy a few hours ago, and for three matches, it wasn't bad at all. Very tiny lag spikes, but nothing to really affect the gameplay. We trashed between each match on MSN, 'twas fun! But after the third match...lag from hell. Bah! He's picking up Mario Kart Wii tomorrow, and we're both gonna get Reflex next week. *shakes fist at Brawl*

Seems kind of weird to me. 1 V 1 is the only time I don't have trouble with Brawl Wi-Fi. I do like taking the pokemon trainer for the sole reason that there's a huge lag spike every time you swap though XP.

I've only played random matches online, but I've never experienced any lag problems... It's always ran smoothly once it's been started up.... Sometimes loading takes a while though, and waiting for a match...

Yeah, it's very impressive actually.

I've only had my connection drop to 1 bar once, but it was most likely something wrong on my side.
