I like to believe that after the whole kidnapping the princess and throwing of the barrels incident, Mario and Donkey Kong reached an agreement and became friends. Donkey Kong went off to run his own country where he frequently gets his bananas taken away whereas Mario found a new nemesis and still just can't seem to keep the baddies away from Peach. What makes her so special, huh?
Except for the first DK game, they are separate worlds. And DK is the good guy in his worlds.BuryMe
you forgot about the recent DK vs mario games, dk's a bad guy in those games. anyways, i agree with jasonguy, dk does his own thing. so i voted neutral :P
He's was suppose to be bad since his arcade game, but he's pretty much good in all other games he's starred in (DK is a villian in the Mario vs. Donkey Kong series I think), so I say neutral
Wasn't he the one who used to kidnap Peach WAY early in the times. Like the times you had to jump over barrels and stuff. But I think he is a neutral character in the Mario World.
From what I understand, the Donkey Kong we know today isn't even the same DK from the original Pauline-kidnapping days. That DK is who we happen to call Cranky these days. I wouldn't consider DK a villain as much as a character that has his own motives. In fact, when it comes to sports games, etc., I see DK in the same way I've seen Yoshi in the post SMW era; both characters now have their own missions and goals, but because they're tied to Mario, they come back when there is some big event is to be had.
Isn't the Donkey Kong in "Donkey Kong" Cranky Kong and Donkey now is Donkey Kong Jr. I think in one of the games it said something about Cranky Kong used to throw barrels at people.
Donkey's old man, Cranky Cong used to be the badguy when he kipnapped the princess back in the old days. Now his son, Donkey Kong forfills the hero role.
DK's a gorilla, man! He does whatever he wants, so sometimes he's helping and other times he's hindering. Such is the nature of a big gorilla in a small, red tie.
I say nuetral, but wow i never knew about that Cranky Kong story. Wouldn't that make Mario an old man also? That reminds me of how Mario used to be a villian, which is wierd if you think about it now.
He's neutral. He only cares about the well-being of his native land. He could care less about helping people other than his fellow DKC inhabitants.
He seems bad because of the whole "kidnapping" of the Lady, but that's not the full story. Jumpman (Mario) mistreats Donkey Kong, and in turn Donkey Kong gets mad and kidnaps the Lady (Pauline). Then, Mario goes to rescue her.
I'm pretty sure DK was just pissed off at Mario and tried to get him back.
I would say he is both. Its hard for me to decied because some games he is good (SSBB, Mario Party, etc) and some games he is a bad guy (Donkey Kong, Mario vs. Donkey Kong, etc). So its really hard to say.

Peach did not appear in Donkey Kong. You are thinking of Pauline, who was previously known as "Lady" in Japan.
Donkey doesn't live in the Mushroom Kingdom. He lives nearby, on that island in DK64. Occasionally, he has to go over, to get milk and bread and he might be caught up in something. Maybe Pauline took the last bread from the service station! That's why he kidnapped her. He's not the bad guy! The bread company is, for not making enough Bread.
In other words, i don't think he is. More like a companion.

Well i think him and Mario had some misunderstandings, but now they have become mates and parted there ways and don't interact with each other until something big happens.
But DK is just a gorilla he doesn't care for anyone else except his fellow ape mates and his country.But he does like to get out and have fun with the whole crew whether its some mad go-karting,parties or full on smashes.Donkey Kong is awesome.
Villian doesn't mean much in the Mario Universe. I mean, villians should actually do something bad, not just run off with a girl or some toys once in a while. I think in the Mario Universe you have Mario that is always good, and then the rest of the cast that do nothing more than run around make it hard for mario to platform around. Hardly 'villian like'. DK fits that bill. He had his own games where he has had to get bananas and such, but for the most part he is just a useless character printed on the box to help sell more Mario. So Neutral.
