Hello,

I have had my Wii for a couple of days and I have it in a tv stand with glass/wood doors. anyways I thought I turned it off with the Wii remote last night. But this morning I found it on. It must have been left on for about 14 hours.

Is that bad for the Wii? can it cause internal damage?

Also is there a sleep mode?

What is the percentage of Wii's breaking?

Lastley what is the warranty on the Wii? is it a year like the PS3?

Thanks

Nothing is going to happen because you left it on that long.

Sleepmode is when your Wii's light is yellow. Red means it is off. You can change this in the settings.

Connect all your devices to a powerbar and shut it off when your not using your T.V/Game Consoles/DVD players Etc.

Doing this will extent the life of your all your devices and you will also use less electricity.

i left my Wii on sleepmode for 8 days straight, after that when i turned it on it was working just fine.
i guess Ninty figured that Wii owners are expected to leave their system on sleepmode for long periods...

No. Nintendo did answer this concern months before the Wii's release in 2006. Nothing bad will happen to it.

I've had my Wii since launch day, and it's basically been either on (while playing a game) or in standby/sleep mode since. Hardly ever unplugged. I've only unplugged it for maybe an hour or two a few times while moving it around the room or house. Mine still works perfectly fine, so far. **knocks on wood**

While I'm not using it, my Wii has been on in stand-by since I got it at midnight, November 19, 2006.

No, I don't think anything will happen to your Wii, unless you are leaving it on a very closed space.

Did you turn it off onto standby, or not turn it off at all? Personally I wouldn't leave it on overnight, but standby is fine (Although I think Friends of the Earth have publicly had a go at Nintendo over this as obviously it uses {slightly} more electricity).

Hold down the power button until the screen goes black, then you know you are in standby. Mines been on standby when not in use since I bought it 4 months ago, and thats not uncommon I would have thought.

PS Think its a 1 yr warranty

Since, the sleep mode is the default settings I cant see how it would be a problem at all. If you are worried about this, like I was just go change it in the settings. I feel that there is no need for sleep mode anyways.

Where in the settings is the sleep mode? I didn't see at all. Also the only reason why I noticed the wii this morning is because the dvd drive flashed blue. I did it do that because I got an email? And secondly if it is in standby mode does the wii receive emails? The power light was green, not orange.

The only thingI dont understand is that I turned off the wii with the wii remote and the screen went black, and the controller lights turned off. I don't have any kids so there was no accidental turn off. Is it possible to turn off the controller without turning off the wii.

Sorry for a lot of noob questions.

Standby is in the settings.

The Wii can flash blue and receive messages when in standby. But if the light was green, then it was on. The controller turns off on its own when you don't use it for a certain amount of time.

Luckily the Wii only takes 10 Watts of electricity be left on stand-by.

Plus it only takes 17 Watts to be turned on and running a game (not including the T.V)... that about the same as an energy saving lightbulb.
