hold the start and select button when launching the game, though it will be really small. however i dont think they look that bad, then again what games have you played on it?
its not you they look pretty horrible. colors look washed out and edges are fuzzy. cant find any option for it either. really regretting trading in my XL now, will prolly just buy a normal DSi later on.
Are there some screenshot comparisons or something out there? From what Ive seen from video comparisons it doesnt seem THAT bad, that I would rebuy a DS just to play my old games, but then again videos can be decieving because of their quality. From what I have seen so far however I think some people are seriously overreacting. What exactly did they expect?

It's not that bad really, just a loss of clarity (which is disappointing).
Has this to do with the higher resolutions of the 3DS screens as the DS games were developed for the DS, which has lower resolution screens? Thinking about it, it is like playing a VHS movie on a HDTV?
This proves that the 3DS is not just a DS with 3D effects. It is more than that, including higher resolutions.
i dont get why there are so many people whining about the SLIGHT fuzzieness of DS games on the 3DS, its BARELY noticable. unless u have OCD i dont understand what the big problem is.
Guys, load the game and hold start and select while its booting, the 3ds will play the ds game in its native resolution- it looks fine just small on the 3ds. This has been discussed so many times lol it looks great Ive been playing pkmn white all day :P
I would assume its the way the 3DS renders the lower resolution old stuff on the new higher resolution screen, quite a common problems with pc stuff not operating on native resolution isnt it?
There's a slight loss of sharpness, but I only noticed if I was actively looking for it. If I just played the game without obsessing over it I found that it became unnoticeable.
Yeah it's kind of disappointing. To those saying there's no difference... lol. It's a pretty drastic difference in resolution. Playing it in native mode makes it look better, but its about half the size it should be on a normal DS. I'm glad I kept my lite around. That being said, the 3ds is still awesome.
Even if its slightly uglier I dont see the complaints. Isn't pretty much anything you watch thats lower res on a higher res screen going to be that way not just the 3ds?

Backwards compatibility generally means that when playing older games on a newer system, you aren't trading off for anything except maybe a controller. Visually, graphics tend to look better if not the same. It's been that way with consoles and previous handhelds. Upgrading to a newer system to get a worse resolution or size of my old DS games is pretty lame. Its not a huge deal, but its something I hope improves with the next remake of 3ds. I cant complain about any other aspect of the 3DS, its really something innovative.

i saw a SLIGHT difference when the brightness was set to 5, when i lowered it down to 4, that SLIGHT difference was nearly gone. I had to stare at my system and the game in my GF's dsi for 10 minutes to catch the differences.
Anybody have a DS Phat and a 3DS? How do DS games look on the 3DS compared to the Phat? I've only seen 3DS vs. DS Lite / DSi / DSi XL, all of which have significantly better screens than the Phat.

No. They were slightly smaller than if they were on GBA, but not anywhere near as big a size difference as between DS and 3DS.
My honest opinion is that the filter depends on the game. I tried all 12 of my DS titles to varying results. The softer look I thought benifited games like Mario Kart and Megaman Starforce with hard edges on the polygons, but pokemon platinum for instance had me squinting to read the moves in battle. Black and Heartgold not so much, but throughout all my games the only thing I can say for sure is that the filter dosen't do text any favors
