First off before the bashing and flames start I want everyone to know I have been a diehard, true & blue Nintendo fan since day 1. I've owned every console they've came out with. And even faithfully refused to buy other platforms at times, just because I am a nintendo fan and have always liked their games.

Now with that said.....I didn't jump on the Wii bandwagon the first year they came out. I wanted to wait a bit and see how things played out. I heard good reviews about it and everyone seemed to like it. So this Christmas I bought one with several games. And for the most part I do like it. I love Super Mario Galaxy, I think the Wii-Mote and the Nunchuck work excellent as a remote system for that game. I loved Zack & Wikki, but on this game there was several times I really just wished I could have used the Nunchuck and navigated where I wanted to go, but I can overlook that on this game.

It's the games like Need for Speed Pro Street that really burn my tail though. Don't get me wrong, I applaud Nintendo for their revolutionary idea of this system and it's remote and how you use it. But I think Nintendo needs to step back and add OPTIONS that will allow you to either use the Wii-Remote or use a regular Gamecube remote with REGULAR controls. It's so freaking aggravating having to turn your entire remote back and forth just to steer your car on the track. Yeah it's real fun and neat for a little bit, but that grows old after five minutes. I mean isnt' the the whole reason they invented the steering wheel controllers? That way if people want to really experience the feeling of having to turn they could buy one of those?

Another one that gets my gizzard is games like Pirates of the Carribean. In order to fight folks on this game I've got to continue swinging and shaking the remote like a madman. And that gets old real fast, at least to me.

I'm not an old sourpuss, I still love playing video games like I always did, and I like new ideas in video games. But I just think it's stupid for Nintendo not to at least give options for games like these to be able to use a regular remote. I guess it would take too much programming to go into the game design. Yeah yeah I know, "If you don't like using the wiimote and using it as an active controller you shouldn't have bought a wii!!".

Two things on that note -

1. I guess this part is my fault. I kept hearing that if you didn't like the wii-mote you could just turn it over and use it sideways as a regular controller. Which only seems to be true about 20% of the time. I should have done my homework on that. I thought it meant any game you could use a regular controller interface on the wii-mote.

2. I also kept hearing that you could buy a classic controller. Little did I know until it was too late that it could only be used on VC games or Gamecube games. Once again my fault, poor research.

I'm not bashing Nintendo, they're still my favorite Game platform. I'm just dissapointed with the control options. And honestly, a little aggravated also because of the lack of games there seems to be available, compared to the other consoles.

I should point out that neither NFS: Pro Street nor PotC were exceptional titles with great controls. I wouldn't complain until you're actually annoyed with games that have good/great controls (Metroid Prime 3, Trauma Center, etc.). So it seems the problem is not the controls, but bad implementation of the controls.

Also it's up to the developers of that game to determine if other controller options are available, not Nintendo.

And if the controls are done right there are very few games where you'd even want a controller other than the Wiimote.

Okay, you love Mario Galaxy and really like Zack & Wiki, but you're putting down the Wii because you don't like Need for Speed Pro Street or Pirates of the Caribbean? You're problem isn't with the Wii, it's your choice in games.

Try playing games like Twilight Princess, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 3, No More Heroes, Super Paper Mario...you know, good games. Each one of those games play brilliantly.

I couldn't stand to play any longer than 1 hour with Pirates, I couldn't believe I lasted that long actually.

I agree that Nintendo really needs to release a new controller, maybe a mix of the GC and Classic. Some genres and games like Paper Mario don't feel right holding it sideways. Thankfully Brawl and Mario Kart have multiple options.

I'm not bashing Nintendo, they're still my favorite Game platform. I'm just dissapointed with the control options. And honestly, a little aggravated also because of the lack of games there seems to be available, compared to the other consoles.

It's amazing that a guy who says he has been playing since the NES days hasn't learned two of the most importants laws of gaming:

1) Racing games tend to be mediocre. Mario Kart is one of the few exceptions.

2) Games based on movies always suck.

You can buy any console and end up hating it if you buy games like Pirates of the Caribbean, Shrek 2, Happy Feet or Harry Potter. It has been like this since the NES days. Hell, it actually goes back to the Atari days. ET, the 2600 game, pretty much killed the entire video game industry during the early 80s.

I got a Wii at launch and think it has great potential, but I'm disappointed in the lack of good games. For the longest time, Sony took a lot of flack for not having any good games, yet the Wii has always had fewer imo. It's been about 15 months since launch, and I've only bought 4 games.

maybe is just you, i'm happy with my Wii, but is true some games are not so good, and Wii is not just moving and swing the remote, i like Super Mario galaxy and No more Heroes because is like a normal game, and the Wii remote is just for quick actions that can be better swing the remote than push a button, and for races games, tilt the Wiiremote is fun, but they have to put some alternatives for control, i have in mind and futurist race game, maybe a new F-zero, the ships with guns, and use the stick of the nunchuck to move and the pointer to shoot, but i don't know really, is not my job do games

I am in same boat as the orginal poster. I have bought every system for nintendo and never bought anything else. However the xbox 360 looked so good and with the wii still on it's way I went out and bought that, for the wait. However once the wii came out they were so hard to find, and even when I did find one I decided to wait. I finnally bought one and picked up Zelda. I loved wii sports and played that for days but even the new Zelda didn't appeal to me much anymore. I found it was way to easy, thought the story line was excellent.

I was thinking no big deal and decided I needed another game as I was almost completly bored wit hmy wii after a month or two but had no idea what to buy there was nothing that caught my intrest. So I decided to pick up tiger woods 07 for cheap and the wii controls where awful. (EA's fault I know.) So then I pretty well stored my wii and stuck with xbox hoping decent games where on there way. I had bought a few over priced VC games and finally bought resident evil 4 and traded in my gamecube one, it was fun but then again I knew that already. I was in the middle of a move to a knew area and I didn't want to bring my 360 on the plane becuase well it's not the most reliable system, So I bougth a few wii games metroid prime 3 and prince of persia. well I liked Metroid but like Zelda it was fairly easy on the hardest difficulty and also I don't want to sound old but graphics may not make the game but it just felt outdated to me, which was a shame as metroid prime 1 is still one of my favourite games to date. Prince of persia didn't do a whole lot for me either.

In fact I never ended up bringing the wii with me so I had the 360 and wii at the same time and I still have not felt like playing the wii. Except I did buy resident evil Umbrela Chronicles and I will be complete honest. This has been the only Wii game besides Wii sports I have enjoyied.

Nintendo to me feels like a fad, not for serious gamers anymore. I think part of it is the system quality as far as graphics its outdated, and lets face it as much as the wiimote is amazingly there's only so much that can be done. I think resident evil Umbreala Chronicles was the only game I enjoyied becuase it could only be done on the wii. I mean if Zelda, Mario, Metroid where done on a xbox with better graphics there would be no competition.

Wii disappointment from a long time nintendo fan

It's the same as it's been with Nintendo consoles for the past dozen years: stellar first party games and precious few worthwhile third party games. What makes it seem even worse with the Wii is that since it is so popular (much more than the Gamecube or N64 ever were) there are a lot more titles coming out to capitalize on its popularity, thus a lot more trash is being released.

that is a good point, However other systems such as the 360 have had excellent 3rd party support. I think a lot of the major companies have almost given up on making decent games for the wii when the other systems offer so much more as far as development goes. Which is a shame.

No you're not the only one. My Wii catches so much dust its really sad. I have Galaxy, Strikers, Paper Mario, and Metroid Prime. Holy heck, I hate Metroid Prime soooo much. I dont know WHAT THE HELL TO DO NEXT. But I guess the Wii can redeem itself if Brawl is as great as it seems.

You sound as if you enjoy traditional single-player games a lot. In this respect I believe the Wii does not excel over the other consoles, in fact I believe it is a weakness. But as soon as you play Wii with another person in the room the appeal of the console leapfrogs miles and miles ahead of the other two consoles. Even average games like Mario Party 8 can become fun with multiple players.

Still, every man is entitled to their opinion.

I love the Wii, I mainly play it by myself apart from the odd game of Wii Sports with my mates before we go to the pub and online games. I do agree with you that motion seems forced in some games but with the likes of NFS just bear with it, I didn't like it at first but once you get the hang of the controls it's actually quite enjoyable. IMO

Maybe its just me,but at the moment I am fine with the pace wii is going at. I don't play games as much as I use to, but I think the good games we have gotten more than makes up for it. Sure for every good game on the wii there is at least 10 pieces of shovelware following behind it. So what? You paid at least 100-150 dollars less for a wii than any other "next-gen" console and software is 10-30 dollars cheaper than 360 or ps3 as well. Well guess what you get what you pay for, and I am more than happy with my investment.

I just think some people ask too much, and are too impatient to get it.

Oh yeah you're so right. A game of Madden 08 or Halo 3 will definitely not make a room full of people crazy. Everybody loves Mario Party too!

Disappointment. No way. However, I also have a 360, so any multiplatform games immediatly go to the 360, such as Raw vs Smackdown (which i head was HORRIBLE on the wii). Serious games like COD 4 Halo 3 Gear of War ect belong to the more serious platforms (360, and yes even pS3).

But the Wii is 100% kickass for its own original gameplay and innovations. I still bowl on Wii Sports, and mess with those freakin Rabbids with my wife and kid. She loves it as much as I do, and I get stuck playing Mario Party all the time. Now with Galaxy and No More Heros, the Wii also has some games that are more than just goofing off fun, not to mention Zelda, which i didnt care for personally but is another long term serious game.

The Wii isnt for those who spend 10 hrs a day online in a clan war with 20 of their friends plotting out senerios in halo 3 or COD4, but anyone who hasnt had some fun playin it is crazy. But I see what your saying because I dont think I could just have the Wii without the 360 for more serious gaming.

I am kinda with you on this one. The Wii is great and does have some great games but not enough to keep me totally satisfied, hence the reason I also have a 360. It seems to me, and I am not trying to start no beef with all my fellow Wii gamers, that they think there are many many "great" games. I mean there are some really good one such as Mario Galaxy, RE4, Zelda TP, (just to name a few) but its not like the 360 where they have COD 4, Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Oblivon, Gears of War, etc.

This is just my opinion, I love my Wii and wouldn't trade it for a thing, I am just stating the way i feel!

I used to consider myself a big Nintendo fan....heck, I have a collection of 80 Gamecube games. I loved the Gamecube the last generation, for me, it was the best Nintendo console ever. When I heard about the Wii I was really excited....E3 2006 blew my mind. I really thought that only Nintendo was innovating. Luckily for me, the Wii was hard to get a hold of. This forced me to try it before I bought it, and I had never done that with a Nintendo system before. Usually I just buy it, no questions asked.

I tried Wii Play. I hated it. I played Wii Sports. It's OK, but the cotrols are so imprecise it's almost impossible to develop any real skill in that game without cheating. I played Twilight Princess, Prince of Persia and Resident Evil 4 and scoffed at the fact that these games with already on my Gamecube with better controls. Finally I tried Metriod Prime 3: Corruption. Very interesting, and well done. But I prefer the old controls. Yet, it is a game I would happily play.

One game. I haven't tried Super Mario Galaxy, I'm pretty sure I'd love that. Two games. I hated Smash Brothers on the N64 and the Cube. I don't want to play MarioKart with motion controls...if it has an option for standard controls, that will be awesome, but looking at the Wii's track record...

So what is the Wii really offering? A handful of games that I'm interested in...which I'm not so happy about the controls. What's the future for Wii? Pikmin 3? I have the GC Pikmin, with controls I like better. A new Metriod or Zelda? I have those on GC with controls I like better. WiiFit? Interesting...but not what I'm looking for.

So I bought a PS3. I'm playing Oblivion, Orange Box and DiRT right now and I'm loving it. These games not only have control schemes I like, but they are games I can't play on my Gamecube...and there is nothing like them on the Wii either.

It's unfortunate, but Nintendo has lost me for this generation. Everything remotely interesting on the Wii is a franchase I already have with better controls on the Gamecube, and that's the bottom line.

I think Nintendo really needs to address this problem. Because, judging by alot of the other gamers out there who are disappointed with the Wii, it going to bite them in the arse sooner or later. Offering a standard control scheme with each game would be a good start.

Well, I'm absolutely not disapointed in my Wii. Everything I expected from it, it has delivered: original gameplay, fun, evryone playing together,... My wife and even my mother play it and they love it. And I have to admit I really enjoy playing with people next to you. We had a couple of friends coming we played Mario Party all four and it was a blast.

About the lack of games I think the Wii has a decent line up for a console that's nearly 1 year old. Look at the PS3, it hasn't that much more games. I think the problem is the games you took. I mean Pirates is one of the worst games you can find, and with bad games come bad controls. With the good games, the controls are great and respond nicely.

For the graphics part, it is well known the Wii isn't as powerfull as the other two, but that doesn't mean it's games don't look great (look at SMG). And good graphics doesn't mean good game (Assassin's creed, even if this one is arguable, lair, with this one everybody should agree).

In one thing I agree with the poster, racing games don't play well with the wiimote and they should give an option to play them with a controller.

So to end this, people disapointed with the wii expected it to be like the other consoles, but the Wii has something different to offer, and people who buy it get it because it offers things the other two will never offer, it's gaming on a different way, and if you expect it to be like the others then you'll be disappointed. The best way to use the Wii for die hard gamers is like I and others did, to have it with another console (PS3 in my case), so you have the awesome next gen graphs and games, and also Wii originality and fun.

And for the original poster: nobody will/ should bash you for ewpressing your opinion, it's your right for being disapointed and everybody should respect that.

Wow!! I've got to say I'm really impressed with this forum so far. On forums I usually would expect to get bashed and flamed for a topic like this, but you guys/galz actually stepped up and acted like adults and SHARED opinions instead of bashing. What a concept! LOL.

Thanks for all the input people. I do agree, as far as originality....the Wii has it hands down. And as far as Multiplayer gameplay...hands down the wii.

i think that it just comes down to preference... i own a 360 and a wii. i play my wii for nintendo first party games because they are amazing, and for other wii excusives... and i generally play multiplatform on my 360. i absolutley love oblivion and mass effect, and am looking forward to ninja gaiden II, but i bought my wii first, and thats because it is my console of choice.

i have 5 wii games and 3 360 games... i just like my nintendo better. if you find yourself dissapointed with the wii i would suggest either exploring the software choices more thouroghly, i find with the wii, its more often the unexpected games that really drew me in (zack and wiki, trauma center, ssx blur). i dont really think that wii owners have much to be dissapionted about... the 360 is completly oversaturated with first person shooters(which is cool i guess if your into that... which im not) and the ps3 has little to offer in terms of exclusive titles (i hear that uncharted is excellent), and it always seems like i hear that multiplatform games usually run better on 360. whats the deal with devil may cry4 needing to download to ps3 harddrive anyway? from what i understand the difference in load times (which is what was used to justify the download to my understanding) between 360 and ps3 were negligible...

Yes, i was very dissappointed with the Wii. It seemed to have potential, but its not really living up to it. I think Nintendo went a little too cheap with the Wii, i see no reason why the graphics have to be so retro in this day and age. The motion controls have only been used well with a handfull of games and the third parties are not trying very hard. When it shines, its a pleaseant experience, but for me, sadly, the Wii did not have many of those moments.

Well this was the reason why i decided to purchase a PS3 & 360 as well. The Wii so far has kept my interest in about 2 games so far, Super Mario Galaxy and Metal Slug Anthology. As far as anything else, i've been playing Gamecube games on it since Nintendo hasn't done anything NEW ... No More Heroes might be my next purchase but i might just rent it first. The Wii sells a lot but lacks games terribly.

Its just you. The Wii control works great for every games except most ports and third party products. The wii controls really enhances the experience and is a lot better than playing with a normal controller. By the way the controls for NFS Pro Streets were great and as good as the other versions or better, its just that it didnt have the content.:D:D Third Party support will get better.:D:D

Just like every console, the Wii has flaws - the large amount of shovelware, games with gimicky controls that can ruin the experience, bare standard online capabilities in wi-fi enabled games, de-emphasis of graphical and CPU power, lack of quality 3rd party support (something that has plagued Nintendo since the N64 days) - to name the ones I can think of. I still think that the pros far outweight the cons, and while I'd like to see some things change, I don't regret buying a Wii.

You're not alone on this one. I haven't given up on the wii yet but, so far, I've been thoroughly disappointed. I think the main problem is that all that great innovation and originality that we have been promised just hasn't appeared yet. I have not played a single wii game that really made me think "now this is how games a meant to be played!".

But I don't know, I was even disappointed with galaxy and everyone just loved, so I'm just starting to think that maybe the wii isn't for me.

Sadly you forgot to research that Nintendo is NOT the one that gives options for games not made by them, the thing you were talking about that should have options is up to the developer. Why use a Gamecube pad for NFS though? It would be a better idea just to use the nunchuk's analog stick.

i think that it just comes down to preference... i own a 360 and a wii. i play my wii for nintendo first party games because they are amazing, and for other wii excusives... and i generally play multiplatform on my 360. i absolutley love oblivion and mass effect, and am looking forward to ninja gaiden II, but i bought my wii first, and thats because it is my console of choice.

i have 5 wii games and 3 360 games... i just like my nintendo better. if you find yourself dissapointed with the wii i would suggest either exploring the software choices more thouroghly, i find with the wii, its more often the unexpected games that really drew me in (zack and wiki, trauma center, ssx blur). i dont really think that wii owners have much to be dissapionted about... the 360 is completly oversaturated with first person shooters(which is cool i guess if your into that... which im not) and the ps3 has little to offer in terms of exclusive titles (i hear that uncharted is excellent), and it always seems like i hear that multiplatform games usually run better on 360. whats the deal with devil may cry4 needing to download to ps3 harddrive anyway? from what i understand the difference in load times (which is what was used to justify the download to my understanding) between 360 and ps3 were negligible...

The PS3 version of DMC4 has been said to be the best version, and the download thing is just so that it loads a lot faster.

It's just the selection of games that disappoints me. I like the games that I have, but there's not too many other games that I'm interested in.

You are not the only one, there are many people making threads to ask us why the Wii is so popular if it's so bad, or if they should sell their Wii, and things like that. I, presonally, like the Wii and prefer it over the other consoles this gen.

no, I truely think the last while has been experimental for developers, and like the DS, they are about to go on a boom
I've just recently played games like medal of honour, which has awesome controls, could have been a better game but awesome controls
mario galaxy, awesome game, great controls, and great graphics
metroid prime, amazing boss fights

yes these have all been done before, but developers are finding their feet so to speak, and EA especially are finding them amazingly well
I can't wait to play face breaker on wii
konami have found their feet and made pro evo 08 better on wii than the other consoles apparently (I hate football tho so meh)
it's starting to get some larger games, like monster hunter, no more heroes, Tales of Symphonia 2 (we know it's gonna be better than the 360 tales of game... it's got lloyd and the gang... best set of characters so far)
dragon quest, baroque, OKAMI, even stephen speilberg decided he wanted his own game to be a wii exclusive (boom blox)

I think we're just heading into the wii's year of complete dominance, and it's gonna be pretty awesome

Yea i agree and disagree. Why would you buy a wii if u dont want to move around though? the wii is known for the "revoloutionary motion sensing controls" But i am dissapointed with the games though . Have u noticed that almost all of the games are rated 7/10 or under? i still love the wii though. ohj yea the other thing that ticks me off was that brawl got delayed 2 times lol.

Sure, the wii has its technical limitations of how well the controls can work, but for the most part blame developers, not the wii itself. They are mostly responsible for how precise the controls are and what controller options are available.
