are square enix games for the ds more expensive. their recent releases are going for $40 which to me is pushing it because only think import games should be 40+

Yes they are more expensive, weighing in at around $39.99 instead of the prefferred $29.99 - $34.99 price range. I found that Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword was retailing for $39.99, but sometimes you just have to accept what the cost is set at. You could always wait for a used copy, but depending on how popular the game is, you might be waiting a while.

In the UK the prices are identical, and you have 30% offers all the time on them...lol.

Nope, it's not just you. Square is indeed charging 39.99 for all their DS games. This is basically because the Square games have massive production values and therefore cost a lot more to make than your average DS game. Still, it's a bit of a turn-off to gamers like myself. For example, I think The World Ends with You looks really interesting, but I really don't want to spend 40 bucks on that game. I mean, for ten dollars more I could pick up MKWii or for ten dollars less I could pick up Rondo of Swords, both of which look better than TWEWY. I mean, Square's games tend to be good but they have no concept of competitive pricing, sadly.

i agree i also dont like spending $40 on a ds game, but i will warrent it if the game is really good. i rather spend $40 on a really good game than $30 on a decent/bad game.

Honestly as I play many of the DS games and compare them with my Squeenix games I can see the extra production cost easily. Yeah they do charge a bit more, but i've yet to see many other games that have the video and depth of gameplay they do. There are a few out there that are close but lack in ways that still puts the squeenix games almost by themselves.

At least part of the additional cost might have to do with the fact that they're using higher capacity DS cards for a lot of their new games.

I do think $39.99 is too much for a DS game but I can see why Square would charge that much. First party Nintendo games are also around the same price when they are released.

correct me if im wrong but, the only "different" DS card that is available right now is ASH's. 256mb is the size which is contained in a card thats capable of holding up to 2GB if im not mistaken...... most Squeenix games are a little less than 125mb which is enough for the "standard" ds card

Actually the "standard" would really be the 64MB cards. The 128MB ones themselves are only used by a minority of games. Umm, though I could have sworn I read somewhere that FFIV would be on a 256MB card. I can't find the article anymore though.
