For example, if I wanted to use the Wii to watch Netflix, do I need to use the Wiimote with the sensor bar or is there a way around that?

Yes. You have two options, the hard but fun one, and the easy one:

1) Replace the sensor bar with another source of light (two candles on top of the TV work). That's the hard one.

2) The easy one, use the cl4ssic controller.

Did you lose your sensor bar or do you just hate them or something. You can buy a cheap 3rd party one for like $5 online.

Seriously, if you just broke your bar or lost it or something, their cheap as eff. Just get a new one. If you dislike using it, I'm not sure why you bought a Wii...

I control the Menu Cursor with the Classic Controller. but honestly using the IR Pointer isn't that bad either.

Yeah, I wish I could control the Wii dashboard with my GC controller, that way, I don't have to waste batteries.

Option 2.b Plug your Guitar Hero controller and use the analog stick too ;-) Honestly, buy a used one or a wireless one, they are cheap

You don't even have to do it online, I believe I have seen them at Walmart.

i prefer above, but since there's nothing to put my sensor bar over on my PC screen (which i'm currently using as the TV i play my wii on), i have to leave it under.

I like my sensor bar under. My TV's kinda big so I'd have to stand up if I had it above it. And playing games like CoD Reflex online for 6 hours straight wouldn't be too fun standing up.
