Under the top screen, under the plastic part , right in the center is a piece of dust. I haven't played any DS games for over a month because it's so annoying. So I'm wondering if it's possible to take the top screen off, wipe it and put it back on without damaging it further. And if it is, what tools should I use? All help is extremely appreciated. I wouldn't want to buy a new DS over some dust.

PS- It's a DS 'Phat', or whatever it's called. The original one.

Well, mine has alot of crud around the edge, and that doesn't bother me. It's the darn piece of dust, right in the center of my screen. It casts a shadow down, making it look like I have a dead pixel. I can't stand it, and I really want to beat Phoenix Wright.

I honestly have no interest in the lite. Wow, a lighter and brighter system....who cares?I want a solution, not a new system.

As for your problem, godspeed.

there are two ways you can get it fixed.

a) if you still have warranty you can break it and get a new one

b)just buy a black ds lite.

I can tell you what you need, but if you want to know where to get the proper tool to take apart your DS, send me a PM.

You need a tri-wing screw driver which cannot be found at any local hardware store or retail chain that sells tools, trust me, I have looked at a whole slew of hardware store chains and local stores, nothing exists. The only place you can buy one is online and due to forum rules, I am not allowed to link you to any sites that may have this tool as most sell other products which are also against forum rules to discuss.

So send me a PM, tell me where you live too and I can point you in the right direction to get the tools you need.

As far as I know, if you have the right tools you can open your DS, but in order to get to the top screen you need to completely disect the bottom part first, and it would be a pain to put it all back together. I watched a video, because I have a broken DS Lite with no top screen display, but it looks complicated and doesn't show you how to put it back together, if at all possible.

I think some of you are misunderstanding. I'm not looking to popthe entire top part in half. I just want to know if I can pop off the seethrough plastic screen above the LCD screen, wipe it and still be able to put it back in, without damaging the LCD or the plastic.

Dammit, learn to read you morons. In fact, don't learn to read, that takes too long, replace your brain entirely! Jesus, I'm surrounded by idiots.

I need to wipe under the plastic to get rid of a piece of dust. Is it possible and what do I need to do it.

You obviously have the Chunk (AKA the Phat). Here is the ONLY conclusion to your problem:

- The screen does NOT have dust in it. Reason being; Having seen a DS taken apart, the screen is one-piece (both the bottom and top), this meaning that there is absolutely no way for a piece of dust to find it's way through the glued-side of the screen.

Your only solution to the problem:

- Try and trade it in for SOME credit and get a Lite. Trust me when I say that the Lite is much better than the Chunk. I was skeptical at first until I got to play with my friend's lite over a year ago. I immediately traded my Chunk in for a Lite. Best decision I ever made in my video-gaming career. :P

Yes but it means prying apart the DS and there is no point in doing it, as you can't close the thing up again. It is factory sealed, I doubt there is actually dust in it but the only way to do it would be to rip the whole thing apart. You are honestly better off sending it to the nearest Nintendo repair building (there are lots of them around North America) and having them do it.

Of course you can take the "top screen" aka screen protector off of your ds if this is what you mean. I have replaced mine a couple of times already. You can always buy a new screen protector for the ds through a store that sells ds but in our place these ds accessories are almost wiped out. Most screen protectors now are for the ds lite which is such a pain because I also have the original ds. I also have those dust in my screen due to my lack of skill to place those screen protectors without my hand shaking wildly. You can try this. Peel the screen protector off. Then LIGHTLY try to take the dust off of the screen protector using something clean and pointed like a needle or a pin. Try not to puncture your screen protector if you do not want to buy a new one. When all the dust are off, wipe your ds screens to make sure that no more dust is there. Carefully replace the screen protector so that it still aligns with your screens. If all these fails, try finding new screen protectors for the ds and replace your screen protectors. Much cheaper than buying a new system. Hope I helped... Which reminds me... I need to change my screen protector already. Too much scrape marks...

Are you talking about a third party screen protector, or are we both talking about the piece of plastic, on the top screen, that looks lik it's above the LCD? That's what I want to know is fixable. If so..... You're my hero.

I'm not actually sure if its the same thing but I have peeled off everthing that I can peel on both screens of my ds and I have already replace it with a third party screen protector. I think its safe to remove it and replace it but it still is safer to have a third party screen protector in hand for your ds just in case.

I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing but I have peeled off everything that can be peeled off of both screens and have already replaced them with a third party screen protector. I think it should be safe to remove and replace the plastic you are talking about but I also suggest you buy a third party screen protector for your ds just in case you are unable to replace it. You'll feel safer that way... I think...
