Is it safe to try to fix the buzzing noise on your Wii disc drive yourself?

From what I've seen you just need to remove the outer casing and slightly loosen the pressure on the disc. The buzzing's not that bad but it can be kind of bothersome and GameStop won't do anything about it.

I wouldn't recommend it, if you're still under warranty then wait until it gets worse

My warranty's probably up anyway and I got it at GameStop and they don't give a crap. One time I asked and they basically said to deal with it. But I don't have to hear a buzzing noise when I play games on my GameCube or PS2.

It sounds like your minds made up already. If you want to open it up, open it up. You'll risk losing your warranty, but you don't care about that, and possibly breaking your Wii though. Personally, I'd just leave it alone and turn up the volume on my TV so I don't have to hear the buzzing.

Safe as in will it kill you? No, you're good to go unless you work on it plugged in

Safe as in will you destroy it? I'm going to go with yes simply for the fact that you don't know if it's safe to attempt this

Is it a common thing? I looked on YouTube and there are videos of people who have the buzzing as well. It's not all that bad..the XBox 360 kind of makes a little noise (not as loud as the Wii, though).

disk drives make noise. that said you need a special three pronged screwdriver to open the case. I have a wii with a broken drive sitting on my shelf I need to crack open and fix. As I have a working wii I'm not concerned.

Is it the regular loud disc drive noises that every Wii makes, or some special noise? The Wii isn't too hard to take apart and put back together, if you are careful about it, all you need is a tri-wing screwdriver and patience. Personally, I wouldn't mess with the drive, it's a precision component, one false move and you'll have a drive that doesn't read discs, and that's a lot worse than a noisy drive.
