I'm thinking about buying a Wii, and just wondering if you still can't get one without a pre-order.  I see PS3s all over the place, but I have yet to see a single Wii on a store shelf.

I found some at Gamestop.  Not as many as the PS3s though, they filled the shelf from end to end, and only three Wiis were on top of each other.

It's not impossible, but they don't last very long. GameStops don't get as much as say, a Target store will. But they sell more over the phone, meaning they calls asking if they have any. Most put it aside and the person on the phone heads to the store. I got mine launch day, but my friend wanted one recently and it was quite an effort, after a few weeks, we got one for her.

I work at Zellers in Canada, and this week they're taking a certain number of pre-purchases, so it guarantees that you'll get one in a week or two....

So if you live in Canada, run down to your local Zellers to pre-purchase :)

I've been hunting for one for my girlfriends little brother recently, and haven't had any luck.

It's one of those things you simply have to get lucky with, you have to be persistent and willing to go store to store to store everyday in order to find one. Back in January that's what I did, and I was lucky enough to find one in a Wal*Mart on a random Thursday afternoon.

I saw three Wiis on shelves for the first time ever yesterday at a little used movie/video game store outside of Dallas, TX.

I would have got it and sold it on eBay, but I didn't have the money, plus I already have a Wii.

(If you're really really looking for one and you're in the Dallas area, I suppose I could PM you the details!)

It took me forever to find my wii. all you have to do though is keep checking websites and stores. i got mine from www.toysrus.com and they usually have them but in bundle packs so keep checking and you will find one.

I've been looking for my Wii for the last month now. For 4 weeks ive been calling shops, if they had any to puth aside for me to come and get it, walked in and out stores every weekend...I now even call the shops at 10oclock in the morning when they get their shipment of new products, just to check if they have a wii between there somewhere.

No luck after 4 weeks, and counting.

I dont think the Wii is hard to get because its sold out everywhere, its hard to get because nintendo made way to few. Period...

It seems that most stores are getting more shipments in now but you need to be quick and pick one up. They still go very quick

Apparantly some Toys R Us stores get pretty regular (every other week) shipments of Wiis on Sunday mornings.   Also heres a good forum thread for Wii hunters:

I just got a Wii this weekend at Circuit City.  Apparantly all circuit city stores got a shipment in this sunday.  This thread really helped.

You would need to call the Target and Walmart stores to ask them but I know that Best Buy holds there shipments in the back and doesn't put anything out until Sunday morning. Check the Sunday ads though. If they have a Wii in the print ad, they have to have them in the store on Sunday morning.

A million a month is too few for you? I think demand is just too high. They were expecting a DS level of success but that took over a year in Japan to build. Now the states and Europe are expiercing what the Japanese week after week go through in order to get a DS both the Phat and Lite versions. They sell 100,000 DSs in Japan each week and the stores sell out their shipments in an hour or two with lines of people a few blocks long. This happens each week in Japan.

I just got back from my local WalMart and they also have a Wii in stock. That means over by where I am there's at least 4 Wiis in a 6-minute trip from each other. Not too bad.

I don't think it's impossible to find a Wii if you know where to look/ask around. Of course, maybe that's just because I'm in a fairly small town, I'm sure if you were in a big city it might be a little harder.

Go back the next day you won't see those wiis. Depending upon when the restock occurs and wheter it was announced can make the units stay on the shelf at most a day before someone spots them. PS3s on the other hand can remain on a store shelf for weeks before being bought. A lot of stores are also selling out their stocks of DS lites.
