No its a demo, it cant not be linear because it has to be so. They have to show a certain number of places and features in a small amount of time. They are not indicative of the final products layout. Matt Cassamassina from Wii IGN has stated past Prime demos were just as linear as Prime 3s.
Plus all Primes have had objectives that you have to do, and just like 1 and 2 you can choose to do those thing immediatly or explore around some and do other things first before them. It will have its share of story progressing objectives and free exploration like the previous two games. Retro has said a number of times they have not sacrificed the exploration aspect of the game or made is any more linear.

I hope so. I have just been getting the feeling that it might just be an FPS with morph ball puzzles.Emmenite7
Nahh all the old good stuff will be there with a lot of new stuff too, I mean I think we've only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the wii-mote as Samus's hand and kind of interaction theyll have with that. There have been probably a dozen previews for the game so far and not a one has been anything but stellar, especially from those who have review code or near final code and have actually been playing through the game and not just a demo.
They say that it is more "linear", but at the same time it still features the same exploration elements of the last games... my guess is that the game is just more varied in worlds, meaning you won't need to be backtracking as much.REVOLUTIONfreakHm. I guess I'll just have to wait and see. If this game doesn't deliver, the Wii will have nothing.
I fell in love with Metroid Prime's exploration-based gameplay the day that I started playing the game. Heck, I even started playing the game all over again but am starting to resist temptation to play the masterpiece to make sure Prime 3 is fresh to me.
When watching Metroid Prime 3's gameplay videos, certain things start to worry me. Firstly, I see that the game has some sort of objective system, where you are told to get a city's defenses online. The whole "planet" system also worries me. Is each planet basically a mission or level, or will they just act like the regions in the past games? I'm just starting to worry that the game will become pretty linear, whereas the story progressed by exploring a well-designed world on your own in the past games.
Make me feel better.:oops:Emmenite7
just a demo aint it? cant be too certain can we? why am i asking u these questions?
No, it's not more linear. If you think about it, adding planets and a visor that controlls your ship adds extra exploration, and more choices of where to go next!Gavman4Yeah, I'm just hoping each planet isn't just a "mini" Tallon IV that you visit, beat the boss, get the item, and go to the next planet in a linear fashion. I want the space ship to act as sort of an elevator.
It never fails to amaze me that when people want to know about the specific design of a game that they haven't played, they ask other people who haven't played it either.
We really don't know, we haven't played the game. Honestly we've probably seen the exact same footage you have. We can only assume what it will be like. Anything else is a lie. We've had Skyworld and the Federation Ship shown off to us in detail and thats pretty much it. Its difficult to judge how the whole game will work based on two demonstrated levels. Also, Metroids aren't freeroaming until the end. You don't have infinte possibilities when you step off the ship, you usually can only open one door and get to one type of platform. TallonIV is not the wide open area you remember it to be, at least not until about 3 to 4 hours in.
Unless its Super Metroid, then we can all wall jump!
