Is Nintendo Really Working On Another Console????

I hope what I've been hearing isn't true. If Nintendo kills off the Wii U too early they will loose consumer confidence in their brand. They need to keep the Wii U afloat at least till 2016... But who's to say the haven't lost consumer confidence already. Do you guys think they should kill off the Wii U right now? Or keep it afloat for a couple years than count their losses? Or drop out of hardware altogether? I don't want that to happen... But it's looking like it MIGHT happen.

In my opinion they should NOT kill off the Wii U. Imagine how Wii U users that paid $300 for their system with only 10 games will feel, when suddenly a new system comes out for a higher price and supposedly better.

Nintendo should work on the Wii U and fix that system by making more games, better software, stronger online community etc.

I think the appropriate time to release a new home console would be in around after 2017. During that time, perhaps Nintendo should make a new portable system alike to the 3DS, which was the highest selling console in 2013.

Because these websites that right about these new rumors and leaks just take advantage of Nintendo's recent situation to try and get people more interested.This news is obviously NOT from Nintendo, so why should you trust it? Where did these websites get this news, NOT Nintendo, so why should you listen. This news is 99% NOT True.

A topic that has been beaten to the point where it is unable to stand nor speak. The Wii U isn't going to get dropped early. The Fusion rumor is bullshit. And here is a link to a vid that sums up why dropping Wii U would be a horrible idea. I really need to make a quick copy-and-paste response for things like this.

Nintendo and everyone else always works on their new console immediately after launching their new one. It usually takes that long to plan everything out, so it's not really surprising. The Wii U's successor has already been probably 2 years in the making at this point and is likely being reworked considering Nintendo's current situation.

@haziqonfire: Yes I understand R&D I was just simply pointing out the possibility that Nintendo MIGHT kill off the Wii U sooner than planned and release a "New" console. I'm not jumping to ANY conclusions at this point. Most likely Nintendo will do everything in their power to keep the Wii U alive for at least a few more years. I'm just looking at some of the many possibilities.

they sold how many Wii U at launch?....if they kill off Wii U say in 2015/2016..you can expect half of that for their new system... I will certainly be the half that won't be buying it. :p

I would imagine that Sony and Microsoft have teams working on new consoles, too. A whole lot goes into a console launch, and a generation typically only lasts 5-8 years. The Wii U's lifespan should be a lot closer to 5 years than 8, given its lack of power and poor sales performance.

I doubt it, I do not think Nintendo is smart enough to do something like that, especially since they are not even smart enough to fix the one mistake they keep making ever generation since the Nintendo 64, that and it would cause problems for people who already purchased a Wii U, so in a way it would not be smart. They will most likely struggle all of this generation and either make improvement next generation or keep making the same mistakes. I am looking forward to the next Nintendo console, I will go ahead and skip the Wii U, I am not willing to take the risk of it hardly having anything I want or lasting as long as the Nintendo GameCube did or less than that.

Why would you not buy their new system? Nintendo puts out tons of first party games...

The wiiU's lifespan is not even half over yet and you are already claiming that you won't buy their next console. You don't even sound like a Nintendo fan to me.

You don't get it. Nintendo IS A GAMING COMPANY. THEY ONLY DO GAMES. They are ALWAYS looking towards to the future. A year after the Wii came out they started planning the Wii U. So yes Nintendo is already BRAINSTORMING ideas for their next console. They cant stop or they die as a company. It takes Nintendo 5-6 years to create a new system to sell. If they waited till the end of the Wii U's life span to START making the next one we would be waiting 5 EXTRA years lol. So yes Nintendo is planning their next consoles, Iwata has said so already. When he talked about the next home console and handheld having similar architecture possibly. But this doesn't mean they are killing off the Wii U. Wii U just started a year ago. It still has 5-6 years left in it. There next home console wont be out for 5-6 years. The 3DS successor wont be for another 3 to 3 1/2 years.

Didn't one of Nintendo big shots come out and say it straight out that wii u is dead in it's current form (that's probably a quote but I'm not about to search for the article)? Though they're not going to stop releasing games they do realize that it failed badly. That answers that question... are they working on another one? I'm leaning towards yes, regardless of whether wii u is dropped actually. No way is Nintendo going to simply drop out of the console market like that, they're most likely working on something new... this wii u thing also has that rushed taste to it like they had to release something and the wii u was what they had ready at the moment.

Nintendo should really be working on their 7th Home console right now. But they are not. Nintendo will tough it out with the Wii U console. They may still turn things around, or at least break even with the Wii U.

Nintendo hopefully is planning their 7th console. Learning from the mistakes on the Wii U.
