Just a thought I had after I saw the Nintendo Direct last week. A sequel to Fire Emblem was announced, and is scheduled for a possible release late this year. If it does come out this year, that'll only be two years since the last Fire Emblem released. That just seems like awful an quick turnaround to me. Considering we still haven't gotten an advanced wars or something like Metroid yet.

Is this quick turnaround showing Nintendo is running out of games to put on the 3DS? Or is it simply, Nintendo trying to strike while the Iron is still relatively hot on a franchise that seemed to gain a lot of traction in the west?

What else is left for Nintendo to release for the 3DS when it comes to established franchises?

well for us in the west...we got monster hunter 4, yokai watch, final fantasy explorers, majoras mask and xenoblade wii coming...

but in terms of 1st party... your right. thats why there has been much less games coming out for 3ds...everything is used up. nintendo has to be cooking something i think....or maybe they are planning for a next gen handheld/console hybrid system in 2016?

The 3DS could use a Metroid title this year. Wii U definitely has a good portion of 2015 set and its lineup looks fantastic. It makes the 3DS's lineup look rather weak.

As for Fire Emblem, I guess they're trying to milk it while they have the chance. Awakening brought back and introduced so many people into the series, possibly the most successful FE yet in the West, so might as well release another while fans are still hungry. I was expecting a Wii U Fire Emblem title, but 3DS is definitely the smarter choice considering most of its current audience is there.

Pokemon Z and a Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze port maybe? What other Mario sports spinoffs haven't been done yet on the 3DS?

@Aquat1cF1sh: I guess Strikers is pretty well established at this point, and being able to set your own points system could make it work for a handheld.

but yeah it seems like maybe they have plenty of B tier? Franchises like Rhythm Heaven, or Warioware I suppose. I certainly think Third parties could be doing alot more for the system, but thats a topic that has been beaten to death at this Point.

I certainly think games like S.T.E.A.M. Show they still have some new ideas for it. Hopefully that stays a trend for at least a couple more years.

There are still games yet to be released, including those who have been missing in action for several years. At least the 3DS has a variety of software and third-party support that the Wii U lacks.

You answered your own question, if they were really desperate for things to come out they have franchises they can use. People wanted more FE, so they are coming out with more.

I will say, I love my 3DS but it's lacking those really innovative and quirky titles that the DS had. I think the first party titles for the 3DS are superior (I'm talking Mario, Kirby, etc.), but it doesn't have the 3rd party support that made the DS special. Games like Ghost Trick, 999, Meteos, Trace Memory, Hotel Dusk.

Agreed, I love most of the first party titles but the 3DS really hasn't produced any unique stand alone games. I remember when Trauma Center and The World Ends with You were out... I still need to play Hotel Dusk.

What 3ds needs is more 3rd person shooters and melee action games. The last good 3d beatem up the system's seen was the Amazing Spiderman in 2012. And after the colossal letdown provided by Arkham Origins: Blackgate, followed by the absurd decision to take TASM2 the Metroidvania knockoff route, I'm just so disappointed.

For Christ's sake, this is two generations past GBA and we're still getting one-button 'ARPG-lite's from an isometric angle! We need real action games, not just SRPGs and platformers.

I don't think it says anything about running out of games. It just says that Fire Emblem games are fairly cheap to make and they want to ride the success of Awakening.

Plenty of franchises left to draw from though, and even if there weren't they could just create new ones. A few that I'd like to see:

-Metroid

-Starfox

-Donkey Kong

-Golden Sun

-Advance Wars

-Another 3D Mario (a 3DS remake of mario 64 would go down very well)
