not really. I have a 1080i tv and have my wii set up to it. Dosen't look bad. Looks like a regualar t.v. hook on into the wii. But i have heard of a friend saying th'ers a cable for hd. tvs.kevo14I own a wii actually but I was just wondering if the wii is physically cablable of 720p/1080i. I remember the normal xbox has a few 720p games. So will we ever see 720p/1080i games ever for the wii
it does 480p[QUOTE="chansaet"][QUOTE="dinofan01"]no only 480idinofan01
if you know that why are you asking this question
Well I was curious if the hardware is cable of displaying HD signals. LIke the videocard can physically do it or not. So meaning will we ever see a HD game for the wii rather than just 480p (looks ok but to many jaggies)Yes and no
Yes it can but it wont be a video game it'll have to run like a slide show

The xbox ran games in 720p often and ps2 ran Grand Turismo 4 in 1080i. So the Wii is more than capable, Nintendo just doesn't want to do it right now. A firmware could easily change that though, it would be a nice welcome.

There's always a compromise though. Yes, many Xbox games ran at 720p, but how many did so at the exact same AA, framerate, etc, as on 480p?

Doubt it, unless the game wasn't actually optimised for 480i/p. Running at higher resolutions takes more processing power. Since no proccessor runs at infinity, there's obviously a peak point, meaning there'll be less processing power to go around.

Google it, SC2 runs at 720p on the xbox.Google it, SC2 runs at 720p on the xbox.Ramadear
I know it runs 720p. That is not the issue. The issue is if it is possible for a game to run at the exact same framerate, without having to reduce the Antialiasing or other graphical settings (assuming of course that the game peaks the processor in the first place). If you've done any PC gaming, you'll know that running a game at a higher resolution, unless your computer massively exceeds the minimum specs, usually means toning down one or more of the other graphical settings to get a decent framerate.

I do a lot of pc gaming and I know what your talking about. My only point is that lots of Xbox games ran at 720p with no sacrifice in visuals. PS2 ran Gran Turismo 4 at 1080i with no sacrifice in visuals. If those two systems can do then Wii could do it as well. But Nintendo supporting it is another story.

Xbox games were running in 720p, yet Halo 3 can't? Damn, if that was a Wii game, all hell would be breaking loose. OMG TEH GRAPHICSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!11!!!!!!!11!11 SNES COULD DO WUT TEH WII DUZ.
I am not sure it even matters if the Wii could do this as the majority of the fanbase probably wouldn't care.
[QUOTE="Leopold_Stotch"]it will still lag. just not as much.Ponmop
I'm using component cables with no lag at all. I believe the refresh rate of the tv is what determines whether it will lag or not, mine is like 8 miliseconds or something like that.
That's not the refresh rate, that's the respons time. That is one of the things that makes LCD inferior to CRT, high respons time.
Didn't the Wii have a to small framebuffer to be able to output resolutions over 480p?
If I remember right is about half of the eDRAM used to framebuffer...
