To release a new handheld so soon? I don't know much about it and that is why I am here to find out. I've seen lots of topics talking about it though? What's going on? I can't imagine they'd come out with a new one so soon...

They're not releasing a new one.... yet.

They finished making a new one but they decided not to release it as of yet because of the DSs continuing success.

Why? Because they always start working on their next machine as soon as the previous one is released...obviously. I don't understand what the big deal is.

First of all, they are not releasing a new handheld. I don't know where you got that idea.

Second, the DS is almost 5 years old. Nintendo pulled the plug on the GBA after only 3 years. Why are you calling them selfish now?

You never have to buy the latest handheld, especially if it still plays current games. And frankly, I wouldn't worry. The DSi was just released, they don't want to kill the potential profits by making it obsolete before a huge chunk of people haven't even bought it yet. Trust me, they'll want to milk the DSi and the DS franchise as long as possible. Why do you think they are so slow putting out DSiware games? Also, they haven't even started with the DSi-enhanced and DSi-exclusive games, which they said they were going to do. Don't worry, no new handheld is coming out for at least a year or two. It's just business to have your next machine ready to go when the sales for the current one slump, but we are no where near that point yet.

I think your semi-missing the point here. Nintendo loves money, you know that. They're not going to release anything new until the DSi has been milked dry.

that's why you have to think before buying the 3rd upgrade every nintendo handheld ie. gameboy micro, nintendo DSi.Because they actually suck(compared to the second upgrade)and don't last more than a year.

Nintendo canned new handheld - Reporthttp://e3.gamespot.com/story/6211609/nintendo-canned-new-handheld-reportThis is what he/she may be referring to. As stated before, game companies don't release completely new hardware very often. Sega crashed and burned after attempting this in the mid 90's.

Did they actually say it was another DS type system? It could very well have been the next gameboy. Who knows.

Except it's not correct at all. Nintendo didn't "pull the plug" on the GBA the second they released the DS. They actually supported both systems as late as early 2007. So the GBA had nearly a 6-year lifespan.

They aren't releasing a new handheld yet.... In fact, their implication was that they canned it permanently, because they haven't decided whether or not to continue the DS concept and merely improve on it, or create something brand new.

I feel the same way since I just bought a DSi a few weeks ago, but no one is forcing you to buy the next Nintendo handheld.

You know what I meant. If a new handheld is released, I'm sure we will see the same overlap. It happened with the GBC and GBA as well.

Do you really think they will release another handheld a few months after the DSi came out?

That is not going to happen, expect another handheld once the DSi sales get ridiculously small.
