The DS looks to be great, but when ever I thought about getting past gameboys, a new one came out not long after that. Since taking notice of this, I watched nintendo, and they kept making new versions. Some were small changes, while some were ones that mattered ( At least to me they did).

DS has been out for while now, and has some great games.. Is it safe to get one? When is the new Gameboy coming out?? DS has been out for while, should I just wait for the next Handheld...?

One more question, what is the difference between DS, and DS lite?

The DS still has plenty of life left so Its not to late. A new nintendo handheld probably wont be out for at least another 3-4 years.

The DS is a bit chunky I suppose and the DS lite is smaller and lighter and has a brighter screen.

Its a great system dont be afraid to buy you wont be disappointed.

Supposedly theres another DS in the works (read it in one of the recent GIs), the DS its self has a good 2 years left with numerous games in its library.

Seeing how the DS sales are still doing well, i doubt they will come out with a new soon. It may be in the design process, but it probably wont give out any info until the current one starts to dip in sales.

It's been a good time for a long time. The DS will be around for some time to come. So you're definately not too late.

Since the DS sales are still out selling the other hand helds, it should have a good amount of time left. You can go buy a DS, and not have to worry about another hand held..

It is the best time to buy one because there are tons of sweet games out already for it.

Go for it, you will not regret it.

There has never been a better time to own the Ds than now. There is a great library out to support it with plenty of great titles still in the works. There does not seem to be a successor on the horizon yet. Based on how these things are still flying off the shelves it will be some time before the next one comes out. I own the original and the Lite. I prefer the Lite. It is smaller, sleeker, and brighter. Plus it comes in an assortment of cool colors. I'm not even sure that you can find the Phat anymore anyway. Get one, you won't be disappointed.

Now is actually a very good time to get a DS. There is already a strong library of Nintendo games for it and third parties are finally starting to take advantage of the system (Ninja Gaiden, any of the Square-Enix games coming out). As for a follow-up, I'd put my money on sometime in 2009 and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo made an announcement about it sometime in the coming months, or possibly at E3.

Christ. I'm getting really tired of this. Yes it's a great time to get a DS. As for the difference between the DS and DS lite...RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF.

DS sold 8.3 million copies in 07. This out sold every other game system out there, even the new Wii. I do not know if that total was DS & DS Lites combined. But being 1st in sales & the Lite with a much easier screen to see to play on now, I doubt Nintendo will be coming out with a new one soon. Therefore, I would get one. Plus the DS can play all of the DS Advance games too, so not much of a down side to the purchase.

i just got mine the week phantom hourglass came out. i dont regret it at all. IMO it was a good idea, because it gave me some time to see what games would come out, how they stood up, and what NOT to get.

I think it is a good time. but DO NOT get the DS lite if you want to save a little bit of munney. It is rilley a waist. No point.

but if you get the regular DS than i think you should =) but unless you just want a smaller DS that breaks often get the DSL

Awesome, thanks everyone. I assumed the same, this console is doing so good I didnt think they would put out another one. But what about a new model type?

Anyway, I got the console along with two games (mario kart and brain age) and some much needed things for it. When I first went for it, they were all sold out, so I called today and to my surprise they had some. They are selling like crazy. When I went, someone was getting one to. Hehhehe, I got the last black. Great console, great games. I really wasnt planning on getting a handheld, but DS is just too good.

And for the guy who said "DO YOUR RESEACH!!", perhaps you should have researched this topic before posting, seeing that the difference between the two was explained twice Before you posted. One of them being the second poster in this topic. The differences are'nt much, and would'nt take long to type, but instead you insisted on making two posts saying the same thing, good job. And if you did see those posts (which I doubt you did), all you had to do was not say anything about the matter.

That is what pisses me off about Nintendo, they keep making "improved versions" of the handheld systems. Like i bought the GBA advance and after a few months after that they came out with the SP and i bought that. Then the Ds and DS lite, I am getting the DS lite tommorrow
