I've been buying DS games for a while now. I just finished Dragon Quest 6 and I want to take a break from rpg for now.

  • Games I've bought so far...
  • 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors
  • Advance Wars: Dual Strike
  • Disgaea DS
  • Final Fantasy III
  • Final Fantasy IV
  • Dragon Quest IV,V, VI and IX
  • Aliens Infestation
  • Chrono Trigger
  • Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
  • Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
  • The World Ends With You

I have finished all of them except Dragon Quest 9 and Disgaea since well they're long games! I'm now eyeing Okamiden but would like some other recommendations.

This is what I'm interested in buying at the moment

  1. Radiant Historia
  2. Final Fantast: The 4 Heroes of Light
  3. Pokemon Conquest
  4. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2
  5. Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow
  6. Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword
  7. Contact
  8. Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes
  9. Sid Miere's Civilization DS <--- any opinions? I love the Civilization series so I would like to have one on the go

Also there are THREE games I'm trying to find at a decent price

  1. Infinite Space
  2. The Dark Spire
  3. Suikoden: Tierkreis

Sure this may seem like a lot but it took me like a year to finish what I had previously bought! Also I do own a 3DS but I'm pretty much set there.

curious to know if you've actually finished 999 or just gotten an ending. okamiden is a pretty nice game. if you liked okami you know what you're getting. pretty sure all of the games on that second list are generally considered good games, on varying degrees of intensity. can't talk about civilization DS though, didn't even know it existed.

I actually just got 999 2 weeks ago but got ending 4 I think? I plan to play it again but well Shin Megami Tensei IV comes out on Tuesday so I'll hold off on that. I know Kamiya wasn't involved in Okamiden which is why I thought I'd ask. I found a copy with the case and art so I'm thinking about jumping on it.

you haven't "beaten" 999 until you've gotten every ending :P and okamiden is pretty faithful to the original. in fact it almost feels like a reimagining of the first one. you go through a lot of the same places.

For me the controls of okamiden was just too clunky.. never did get into it.. + 1 radiant historia.. a wonderful game. and IMO you can skip out on contact.. quite disappointing that for me

Okamiden is actually really different to Okami. Okamiden seems to be more puzzle focused. I've only played a few hours of Okamiden but I've enjoyed what I've played. I'd say buy it if the price is right.

1) Radiant Historia

2) Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light

3) Pokemon Conquest

4) Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2

5) Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

6) Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

7) Contact

8) Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes

9) Sid Miere's Civilization DS <--- any opinions? I love the Civilization series so I would like to have one on the goMoloch121

1. One of the better RPGs on the DS. Availability and price changes from time to time so watch for that.

2. I haven't beaten it yet, but it's a decent game. Most people seem pretty neutral on this game.

3. It's essentially FFTA2 with Pokemon. Which is a good thing :)

4. The story is pretty awful, but the gameplay is spot on. 300 quests, all the classes+jobs, and the bazaar (crafting system) make for hours of gameplay. I've started this game fresh a few times and easily got to 100 hours minimum on each playthrough just by completing all the quests and power levelling. It's a true shame there was no online play though.

5. Another great 2D Castlevania on the DS. I prefer OoE, but all 3 are great fun.

8. I have it on PC and it's a nice variant of the match 3+ puzzle genre.

6,7,9. Not sure as I haven't played them, but I've heard good things about Contact.

If you enjoyed 999 you should look into Hotel Dusk. It isn't as complicated of a story, but the characters are all well done and it has it's own mysterious vibe and surprises in store.

I personally found hotel dusk extremely slow with all the characters having just waaay too much to say.. good game nevertheless.. and interesting art style.

I wasn't a big fan of Okamiden. Like others said it just felt clunky.

Radiant Historia, 4 Heroes of Light and Dawn of Sorrow are all rgeat in their own ways (although 4 Heroes of Light is worst of the three... It has some obvious flaws, but if you like old school RPGs then you'll definitely enjoy it).  Okamiden is good, but nowhere near as good as the original Okami was. I'd highly reccomend playing the first game before playing Okamiden.

Okamiden is pretty enjoyable, albeit not too challenging (for me anyway). Radiant Historia is a much more challenging game which has more gameplay value along with a more interesting story. I might be more expensive to acquire, however. Another RPG/action adventure game I would recommend is Solatorobo, which has an interesting story and immersive atmosphere. It even has a decent racing mini-game. That game is probably even more difficult to find but is certainly worth looking into.

The ones you are planning to get are all goood games (not heard of Contact though). Civ Revolution DS is pretty good especially for a game on the go. I've lost a lot of sleep over that game! Okamiden is a great game! The artwork is lovely and I like how the heavenly creatures are a bay version of the main game. The story is very good and there were quite a few funny moments. Gameplay is pretty much the same. Some more recommendation: -Golden Sun: Dark Dawn~ This was my first foray into the series but the game did an excellent job of catching you up on what happened previously. It has a pokemon aspect to it in that you are collecting these creatures that give you abilities depending on which you are using at the moment. The story is epic and the grpahics were quite good for a DS game. -Knights in the Nighmare~ It is a weird shooter type rpg. The tutorial is long (about an hour) but if you can get passed that, the game is surprisingly deep, engaging, and fun. -Puzzle Quest~ a hybrid puzzle rpg game. Very addictive! (don't bother with Puzzle Quest 2 though).

I am a big DS player so I will throw my hat in.

1, 2, 7, and 8. Getting around to that.
3. Great game and gets addicting but loooooong.  I read some people played 200 hours and are still not done.
4. Ehhh I was not into it and I love Advance Wars and Fire Emblem, I cannot get used to diagonal board though.
5. My favourite game in the DS series
6. This was a great game too.  Although I wonder how the Dragon clan is still around when it seems like they are all wiped out every game.
9. I have not played a Civ game before that or after for that matter but I did not think the DS screen and functionality worked for it.

1. Not yet.
2. The slanted walls was really awkward but it is like a Gothic Etrian Odyssey which I liked.  A really brutal game though.  The enemy can come in hordes and the leveling system is kinda screwy.
3.  AMAZING!  This I highly recommend.  All the characters you can recruit and the story was really cool.

Okamiden is great, it just got reprinted too (which sucks for collectors like myself) so its easy to find.. Infinite space is definitely worth the hassle of finding a copy, its a fantastic game, Dark Spire is okay although honestly SMT Strange Journey does the style alot better. I only have a sealed copy of Suikoden Tierkreis so i've never played it

I loved Okamiden.

My only serious complaint about it is that there is too much that's recycled from Okami, including pretty much the entire world.

However, the writing is great, and I feel like the characters were more interesting than the ones in Okami, which is quite an achievement!

I feel sorry that your first golden sun was the weakest of the three. Please do yourself a favor and find a way (any way) to play the first two :P

Thanks for the new suggestions. Also I bought Pokemon Conquest today. I saw this deal on Best Buy so if anyone else is looking for it here it is for only $15.
