Twilight Princess wasn't a disappointment to me. I was expecting a long, fun Zelda experience, and I got it!Paleo_Orca
Agreed. That's pretty much the exact same way I feel.
I liked the return of realistic visuals, and the whole wolf and twilight thing was atleast something different.
It was nice to get a Zelda game that shared a resemblance to Ocarina of Time. If the next game in the series doesn't do anything new, then maybe I'll be disappointed, but not for now.
I hope it's not a new forum fad. I hate forum fads.
I was a little disappointed by TP because it didn't feel like there was as much life in the world as there was in Wind Waker. If you think about it, that should never have happened since Wind Waker's world is mostly lifeless water (which is an oxymoron in itself in traditional symbolism). But it had a certain energy and creativity that made you fall in love with it. TP... not so much, and maybe that was intentional with all the darkness and pessimism. LttP had the same type of pessimism, though, and it was a much better experience. There's just something missing from TP's Hyrule that I can't quite put my finger on.

Maybe because it's more "realistic"? Even in LttP, it was still a world goverened by a magical power, and you get magical abilities... I found the lack of magic or mention of the Goddesses to be a bit of a disappointment...
Still loved the game overall, though...
For one thing, people usually say 'It's just more of the same' and well duh! It's a Zelda game! You're going to have some of the same gameplay concepts with the dungeons, puzzles, mini-games and boss fights. Really, what were you expecting? Something really revolutionary? The only Zelda games that happened to be revolutionary were the first one and Ocarina of Time because the jump to 3-D was amazing and perfectly executed.TP was not a disappointment, it was just people who were expecting too much.Paleo_Orca
It's a disappointment because it fails to meet the standards set by the last three Zelda games. It's not a bad game, but OoT and MM are better in every aspect other than graphics and WW is better in every aspect.

Obviously it was Tingle.
Yes I do think it's a new froum fad, but it also goes along with ones such as " Why is halo so good" and "Assasins Creed was so repetetive".
Though I don't know why people said that I thought TP was great.

I guess the cool thing to do now-a-days is to hate on good games
When I go into game forums such as gametrailers' or gamespot's, there's usually a topic about someone who thought Twilight Princess didn't live up to it's expectations.

Twilight Princess wasn't a disappointment to me. I was expecting a long, fun Zelda experience, and I got it! I even got more into it than other Zelda games because of the Wii controls. I can't tell you how many times I started standing up and making exaggerated motions during boss fights because it was soooo exhilarating.
TP was not a disappointment, it was just people who were expecting too much. (even though the game is already massive)
Now...
Opinions plzPaleo_Orca
The real problem is that the game did nothing new compared to the other Zelda games. It was pretty much a dumbed down version of OFT. Look back at older N64 Zelda games and Wind waker there very unique from each other. OFT first 3D Zelda with an awesome sound track and completely new gameplay. Majors mask 4 playable versions of link plus other masks with a time system. Wind wake completely new feel + sea combat and sea+ treasure exploration and more. New zelda game(Tp)? Um you can turn into a wolf and that's a about it with OFT gameplay but dumbed down. The sound track is the worst I've seen in any Zelda game. Can anyone really tell the difference between the wolf songs?
New users to Zelda will love it, older users will be disappointed.
So once again, there's another Zelda TP opinion thread, great... just GREAT!
 Popped right in! How about a Zelda TP opinions Sticky!?
Great game, but WW had a charm to it that had me hooked and immersed. There was a hollow feeling playing TP. I gave WW a 9.5 and TP a 9.0. LINKloco
Im just unable to become hooked on any RPG game. Just dont have the time really.

Not an rpg, but a long adventure game. Yes, it is time consuming to dedicate yourself to completing.I love TP. Not the best Zelda game but I loved it.Lunar52
while i loved TP just as much as any other Zelda game i played, and would rate it as my favorite wii game so far, i thought it could have been harder. the boss fights and the game was a little to easy.
btw, whats the deal with sea world? imo its a huge aquarium, with better animals. i can see it being fun once or so.. but to regularly visit... doesnt shamu get old after a while?
So does WW play like PH?shadimoscouplos
No. Wind Waker is a unique experience in the Zelda games. The dungeons use the same formula, but even those are a bit different. There's way more sailing in WW, which is what makes it so different from all the other games.
Phantom Hourglass plays more like Link to the Past, with a top-down view and simpler combat. The only major similarity between WW and PH is art styIe.
The later dungeons are a blast.LINKloco
Indeed. The game really starts picking up after the third temple.
I thoroughly enjoyed Twilight Princess. My favorite of the franchise,in fact. But the honor of the "Best Zelda" goes to Oracle of Ages,in my opinion.
I'm starting to get worried about Zelda, up until Wind waker it was my favourite series of all time, but Wind waker and TP left me cold, I don't know why but the excitement and magic of the past games seems to have dried up. They need to do something very radical with the series to make it feel fresh again. If Capcom can do it with RE, then Nintendo can do it with Zelda, and I fully expect them to after they said TP was the last Zelda game in its current form.
I thought Twilight Princess was amazing. So much so that I played it straight for three days... Sad I know. The last game that caused that level of social life destruction for me was Windwaker. I think the whole "dissappointing" thing comes from 2 factors.
1) People seem to think that with every game series, no mater how perfect their gameplay formula maybe, needs to completely re-work the original and be "new". With Zelda that would destroy the game as the point of the game in my opinion is to provide a story that both engrosses you and makes you feel something. Which is what every Zelda game I've ever played has done. And I believe that this focus on story telling is what the entire Zelda series is all about.
2) People can't be bothered to get involved in a game, they just want an easy to get into game, that gives you instant gratification with no work or involvement (hence I think thats why FPS's are so huge and RPG's not so much). Although don't get me wrong I love FPS's too, but i also love it when i game comes around that has teh kind of storyline that makes you play it till you can't bear to look at a screen anymore.

I agree with a lot of what you say. But my problem with the Zelda franchise is that it's telling the same story over and over again. Imagine if Resident Evil released all their games with new, higher detail clothing, two or three new (sometimes useless) weapons, and a different hairstyle for the bad guy, but every game had you running through a mansion trying to find out its secrets. The story needs to be mixed up a little. I liked the little group of freedom fighters (or whatever they were; can't quite remember) that come in at the last minute, but there was almost nothing done with them. I liked Midna as a new character, but thought most of the rest of the game was a little recycled.
Let me be clear. I loved Twilight Princess. Loved it. BUT, I don't think I'll be content with playing another game that's so similar to that one.
One of my biggest gripes is that Hyrule field is huge, but there's no one living there. If they added a few towns, gave each its own personality (a la almost any SNES RPG) and sidequests, that'd be great. Oh, and another thing. Make the sidequests MATTER. I'm sick of trapsing around for an hour just to finally say, "Woohoo, I got another heart! That translates into 1/5 of a single hit from a boss." Sidequests that matter, maybe let you meet new characters that MATTER, get new items that MATTER, see new places that MATTER. I'm sick of feeling like everything is so linear.
I know it sounds like I'm bashing. I probably am. I'm happy with TP. It's the thought of ANOTHER game like TP that sends me off on these rants.
/rant
First let me say this is longer than I originally intended, and I ask you not to skip it just because it is long, I make some valid points here, second I love all the Zelda games that I have played, so if I bash them a little here it is only for the purpose of making a point not because I dislike the game I'm bashing.
1. The controls in TP were way better than in Ocarina of Time. I'm currently replaying OoT and this is one of my main problems with it. I mean, come on, I am tired of getting hit becuase Navi locks on to the wrong target, or the target is behind me, so Navi won't lock on until I turn around and then wait until Navi flys over, turns yellow, and THEN locks onto the wrong target. Am I the only one who has a problem with this?
2. There were similaritys to OoT, but there were also similaritys to Wind Waker, in WW "Oh no, my sister has been kidnapped,I have to go save her" in TP "Oh no, people in my village have been kidnapped, I have to go save them" . You see my piont? Yet no one complains about that. It is one of the things that annoys me the most about TP, and it adds allot to the linear feeling that allot of people are getting.
3. I'm more than happy for Link, they finally gave him a girlfriend (lets face it Link and Zelda were never an item) but why make it so you have to save Illia AND Zelda. Sometimes I miss the days of "You play as Link, a young adventerure, with no history what-so-ever" which is basically what they said in the original Zelda, and kinda what they said about Link in OoT. This "no history and no ties to a village" allowed you to jump in with both feet sooner, I don't have a problem with Link having a village, and neighbors, and a girlfriend, but can't they give him this stuff without making the game so linear?
4. Yes there is a repetitive formula with the temples/dungeons, forest, fire, water, it is this way in OoT, MM, and TP, yet people only complain about TP.
Thank you to those of you who took the time to read this, feel free to quote/repeat things I said in any of your future rants.;)
EDIT: I just fixed some spelling errors, and restructered a couple of sentences so they made more sense.
