Not only has Gamespot said so, but other users' reviews have confirmed it as well. Is it really THAT difficult for beginners, or are they just overexaggerating(sp?)?

I'd say they are pretty drastic over exaggerations, past the first few chapters it gets much easier, and as long as someone has an idea of how the genre works, it is easy to pick up and play

While I haven't played the Wii version yet, I have gamed through the GBA Fire Emblem games. I'd say it's only difficult if you're thrown into the game without having any knowledge of how the series works. I wouldn't think it would be any harder than the other entries in the series.

Well, I dunno about RPG. From what I've seen/read, it's more like a pimped-out version of chess.

It's a grid based RPG/Strategy game, similar to Final Fantasy Tactics, Orge Battle, and Advance Wars.
