hi since the DS can be closed when it is not played, is a screen protector really necessary?? cause I cant seem to get them on the screen properly... there are always a few 'bubbles' inside and I find that the screen images are a lot prettier without the protectors?..... any advise?

the screen protector is not necessary, in fact i gave mine to a friend that for some reason wanted one, all they do is mess you up on games that you have to drag or hold stuff in, i would suggest not using it.

The only reason I use one is to protect the bottom screen from getting scratched from using the stylus so much. If the screen protector is installed properly their is no difference in the vewing area.

It is not necessary. As long as you use the DS like it supposed to and not smash the stylus onto the touch pad you will be fine without a protector. I have had my DS for a couple years of heavy use and the touch pad if fine.

If you are worried about the screens breaking... no.

If you dont want the bottom screen to pick up scratches... yes!!!!

if you're playing a game that doesn't require much stylus, then no. but if it does, for example EBA/Ouendan, ninja gaiden ds, you'd definately need it. My screen has a few scratches on it, and it all came from EBA... While playing other games, nothing..

For most people that are careful with their DS, it is not necessary. However, if you ever let other people use it, or if you are a person that will naturally press harder when the action gets more intense in a game, then it is a good idea. Only buy and use brands that carry the Nintendo seal of approval. I have seen two such brands in the stores but I can only think of HORI right now. I have been using HORI for over a year now and they are very clear and do not hurt the sensitivity of the touch pad. Not very expensive either.
