I was wondering if it's like a DS 2 or just a version of theDS like the DS LITE. If it is basically a DS 2 will it have it's own library of games?

am I the only one who thinks people should get banned for not knowing by now?CyberKlown28UMMMM i have a PS3 when i watched E3 i only watched things on PS3 , my friend was talking about the 3DS so i decided to come on here and ask if it's a succeser to the ds, it's not a big deal and why the heck would i get banned for asking a question, not everyone sits there all day on the computer figureing out everything going on about video games so they can know every last detail about every handheld and console.
You don't have to sit there all day to know if its a successor. it takes under a minute to see a screenshot of metal gear solid CyberKlown28i was just blowing it out of preportion because you were acting as if every gamer should now about the 3ds when honestly i barly give a **** about handhelds....and maby it does only take 1 min to know if it's a succeser but i didn't bother to look , i just wanted to ask on the forums instead of looking it up
I was about to say the same thing. But even after the system is out there will probably be people around the world who have no idea how the 3DS is different than the DS. No doubt many people still haven't heard of it, and never will. How do u not know this? It was announced as a successor along time ago before E3.

I CAN'T BELIEVE it's such a big surprise that i didn't know, im not onmy computer that much and don't have cable , i just play my ps3 , and i never look into ANYTHING NINTENDO . You have to understand that there are a lot of obnoxious jerks on here who think their opinion is gospel, and anyone who doesn't hold to it is just stupid. Ask them this: Ask them to provide any evidence in the press that you cannot play a 3DS game on a regular DS. Then let's watch and see who looks stupid.[QUOTE="jasonharris48"]
Are people really asking that still? LMAO
kyle_360
And no, I don't believe you'll be able to. But I'm basing that on an educated guess.....just like everyone else here is making an educated guess, totally NOT yet verified by the press or by Nintendo, and calling it gospel.

Really now? Nobody has to provide evidence to that. That is just common sense. You have to understand that there are a lot of obnoxious jerks on here who think their opinion is gospel, and anyone who doesn't hold to it is just stupid. No need to guess. Just take a look at a 3DS game card:
As you can see it has a little tab in the corner, which means it won't fit in a DS.
Although I am surprised as well I won't be as agressive lol. It is a completely new gen of Nintendo handhelds. It looks amazing and features:
3D (slider to turn it on, off, or anywhere in between)
better graphics and resolution
bigger screen
dual cameras to take 3D pics
slider pad (better then that of the PSP) and other button changes.
accelerometer or something like that.
MANY other little things.

What is that tab for anyways?, and they shoulda put a DS cart so we can compare the sizes.

Most likely it's sole function is to keep you from trying to use the cards in a DS. Nintendo has done similar things in the past:
See how the Game Boy game has a notch in the top right corner, while the Game Boy Color game does not? On the original Game Boy that notch would be covered by a little tab that came out when you flipped the power switch, locking the cartridge in. This subtle change means you should not be able to power on the Game Boy if a GBC specific game is inserted (I think the GB Pocket just gives you a on-screen message). And on the Game Boy Advance cart you'll notice tabs on either side. Those make it impossible to jam the smaller cartridges into any of the first generation Game Boys.
We know that DS and 3DS cards go in the same slot on the 3DS, so based on that it looks like the 3DS cards have similar dimensions excluding that tab.
It's a whole new handheld. And, I can't really tell, but it seems as though they've added a joystick to it that's similar to the ones on the PSP.
Considering they called the DSi a "new handheld with it's own library of games" as well and it only came out with 2 or 3, -not counting DSi ware-, I'm going to go with an upgrade. Every game that plays in the 3DS at E3, the old DS can handle. (graphics wise) but nobody has actually tried is all. =/

The DSi is surprisingly analogous to the Game Boy Color. In either case they almost doubled the speed of the CPU, exactly quadrupled the RAM, and incorporated a few new features (Color and an IR port on the GBC, cameras and flash memory on the DSi). But the underlying architecture remained the same.
The 3DS is clearly the Game Boy Advance of DSs. We know that it's using a new and far more powerful graphics core. That itself is an architectural change. And it did definitely show up in the demos. The particle effects in DOA and Kid Icarus, the 3D cell shading in Street Fighter, the textures in MGS3, and just the polygon count in all of these games... none of it would be possible on the DS or DSi. And that is not even getting into Resident Evil (which Capcom confirms WAS rendered in real time).

Thanks for the fill in. That post was really a call for someone to tell me all about it's capibilites. Anyway, because Nintendo release 3 "new DS's" this past year, I'm going to wait for the 3DS 2 anyway.
Hopefully third parties which actually take us of the new features this time around.
Wow, the DS board really flips over this. It's not that suprising that someone wouldn't know, sinse it actually has "DS" in the name still. 3DS is catchy, but it really doesn't screem "Next generation".
the name might not scream it, but everything else about it screams new generation, and screenshots for most of these games look ridiculously good....Wow, the DS board really flips over this. Indeed, but it should be expected that people will ask these kinds of things here before doing any research(including looking at pictures of the games). This is gamespot after all. Answering this in the first post would have ended this thread.
