Hi,
I recently purchased a wii and have noticed that in the two games I got (SMG and LoZ:TP) there was no anti-aliasing applied to the polygons. It is not very noticeable but I was just wondering because it would be shocking for this to be true.

If I remember correctly, the Wii is capable of up to 720p with the right cables - which in short means that while its not crystal clear 1080p, there is a degree of high definition support which will sharpen things up a bit (assuming you have an HDTV)suljinnWii

The Wii cannot output games in 720p, only 480p.
THough technically the xbox DID render some games in 720p dont get your hopes high, as the wii would need more technical prowess to do that.
Also yes, I found the jaggies on the edge of everything in Super Mario galaxy very annoying. The game looks good enough to eat except everything has jaggy edges.
I guess I didnt really mind it in other games, only super mario galaxy.
unfortunately I dont think a little anti aliasing would get rid of all jaggies, atleast not on that resolution.

So are you saying the Wii may be capable of outputting at 720p and if not, whats stopping it. Also Im not sure if we have definately answered the original topic question or not. Im just curious here.
The N64 had anti-aliasing. The Gamecube had anti-aliasing. Of course the Wii has it. The only systems that didn't have it were the PS1, Sega Saturn, GBA and Nintendo DS.LordelX
Well, just so you know the DS does have anti-aliasing and implements it on mosts of its 3D games.
On topic: Thanks for the replies, I guess it was just the developers' idea to not implement anti-aliasing.

Its capable probably but it takes a lot of horsepower to render a game like SMG into 720p.
Anti-aliasing is a graphics technique that lowers the "jagginess" that screens, being made up of pixels, tend to make. Is it just me or do SMG and LoZ:TP not implement anti-aliasing? If so, how is it that the wii is capable of implementing anti-aliasing yet two of the best games on the wii do not implement it?DJgummy
Like others have already stated, AA takes up processing power. Even if AA is applied to SMG and/or LoZ:TP, there's only so much AA can do with only 480 horizontal lines to work with... ;)
[QUOTE="merch"]well i have my wii hooked up with components on 480p on a 26" widescreen tv and i sit 8 feet away i dont even notice jaggies.

I notice em hardcore on my 32" tv. :(
CRT or LCD?
YOu will notice them more with component cables over the crappy AV cables
