is the Wii still worth getting at this point?

i found a really cheap Wii ($70), basically the price of brand new Batman Arkham City. i have a ps3 but i wanna play Galaxy 2 and Twilgiht Princess and the new Skyward Sword, tons of other games like Metroid Prime and Other M, DKCountry, Kirby, etc...but is it worth shelling out the $70? the Wii U is just around the corner, and isn't it Wii + Gamecube backwards compatible?

also, im not that big a fan of Ninty games so it's not like im dying to play all those games. and i'm in my last term at univ so im quite busy as well. add the fact that this fall i will be palying the Ico/SoTC Collection, Arkham City, Uncharted 3 definitely those 3 and also contemplating on Skyrim and Battlefield 3 but i might not have enough time.

thoughts will be appreciated. :)

only reasons to get wii instead of wiiU...is if you want to play gamecube games or if you want to buy a lot of virtual console games and use gamecube adaptors to use actual nes and snes , genesis and n64 controllers.

The system and accessories cheap, plus five years worth of backlog where you can pick and choose all of the best games at dirt cheap prices... why the heck wouldn't you get one right now..?

The Wii U is still a year away. Plenty of games to play in the mean time.

^ it also depends on whether or not you want a WiiU. Getting a WiiU to play Wii games makes no sense. Backwards compatiblity is a nice addition, but no reason to get a new system if you all you want right now is some Wii games.

To answer your question, though, the Wii really isn't that bad of a system. It has a smaller catalog then your PS3 but this late in the game it shouldn't matter all that much. You'll have plenty of games to play even after Nintendo stops supporting it next year.

Are you satisfied with your PS3? From your response again, I say just pass on the Wii. Having 2 systems is a pain.

The Wii has a large enough backlog of good games that, at this point, it would be worth it to pick up one used. Remember, though, that the WiiU comes out in a year or so.

If you are planning on getting a Wii U, which is backwards compatible with Wii games and accessories (but NOT with GameCube ones), then it might not be worth it. If you aren't planning on getting a Wii U, then I'd say go for it. $70 is pretty darn cheap (just $10 more than a retail Xbox 360 or PS3 game), so I'd say it's worth it even if there are only 3 or 4 Wii games you're interested in.

the wii u wont play gcn games while the wii will play them nicely in progressive scan (not all gcn models have progressive scan, but many fan favorite games support the feature). plus i suspect that nintendo will stagger out virtual console games again, so you might be able to get some games you want much earlier on wii.

but yes, wii u will be backwards compatible with wii and i doubt nintendo will pull the feature like sony did with ps2 compatibility on ps3 (plus nintendo consoles tend to be very durable, so a launch wii u may very well last you far far beyond the release of any newer models). so if your only interest is playing some wii games (although i highly recommend a lot of gcn games) and youre patient, then the wii u will do that and give you a step into the next generation too.

There are a lot of good Wii games to justify getting the console for $70. I bought mine for $80 last Christmas.

70 dollars is a great deal. However, you might also want to wait for more Wii U announcements. Particulary when it comes to games. Sure it is coming out, but I wouldnt recommend buying a system at launch and a Wii at that price might be a decent appetizer until the Wii U games come out. Just like how I am getting SWTOR and Guild Wars 2 to serve as appetizers for ArcheAge. Simply to keep me occupied in the meanwhile.

I disagree. I own a gaming rig, a 360, a PS3, a Wii, a DS, PSP and a Smartphone. It is not a pain in any shape or form, in fact I like it. Having a lot of choice is nice.

I say yes. The Wii U won't be here until April 2012 at the very earliest with many sources thinking it's coming out in the Fall of 2012. A 70 dollar Wii is a steal and a few of the games you want are 20 bucks right now. I say go for it! By the time the Wii U comes out, it might not even have that many must-haves right away. It usually takes Nintendo a while to build momentum so...

Yeah, it's worth getting mostly for the exclusives, i.e. Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and Kirby. Other exclusives include Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and The Conduit 1 and 2.

I agree with runabee. You have a backlog of games. So worth it for the cost. My Wii is shared among the whole family so it logs lots of hours. We picked up ours on Ebay for Christmas last year. Here's the link www.ebay.com. I would still suggest buying new, not used. Get the warranty.

I'd have to say yes. Not because of the motion controls, but because of the exclusives (previous and coming). Other than the release LoZ: Twilight Princess, the two Super Mario Galaxies, the platforming classics Donkey Kong Country Returns and New Super Mario Bros. Wii, GoldenEye 007, stylized games such as No More Heroes and Madworld, Monster Hunter Tri and many others, you have the recent and upcoming quality games such as Xenoblade, Rune Factory, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, LoZ: Skyward Sword, Dragon Quest X and The Last Story (already released in Japan).

At launch-price, I'd give it a thought, considering the WiiU is just a year or so away from release. But at US$70,00? I wouldn't give it a second thought.

I waited until last March to get the wii, and I have been feverishly playing games since. There are so many great cheap games. I play it way more than my 360 since I bought it.

Supports the paradigm that a great system is defined by its games.

It really sucks I can't just transfer them to a new Wii,so I can have them all on one system.Hopefully Nintendo will learn next gen.I love Nintendo, but they gotta learn some things.

Yes is the answer if you never played the games it already has and the few coming out your interested in. Personally just got it myself not to long ago and enjoying it. Takes some getting use to with the wiimote and nunchuk but its just like any other controller after a while. The light gun games are fun as all (bleep) to play. I recommend the buck shot shotgun while playing house of the dead and other on rail shooters.

The Wii has a good worth right now. Sure about 70% of the games are low rated but there is plenty of classic gaming you can use on it and the games made by NIntendo are really fun to play. Here is a way to help you. If you have many group gatherings in your home, then the Wii is your choice. If you prefer Solitude and battle with people you haven'rt seen their face. go for the Xbox or PS3.

If you want to play the new Zelda badly then yes but otherwise no.
