Here is a serious question.  Is the Wii really worth buying because of its games or is everybody just overly excited about the new controller?  It seems that after Zelda (which is also available on the Game Cube) the game line up seems pretty uninspiring to people who are not madly in love with Mario and cooking games.

So maybe you people who actually own it and play it a lot could fill me in if it is really a necessity at this time or probably worth waiting till down the line for (if ever)?  Cause I know people don't want to shell out $250 for a super nintendo with a motion sensor controller.

Yeah it's really fun, even Wii Sports which comes with the system will provide you with a lot of good times with friends and family (i know i have!). Besides, it's the most innexpensive system out there. I think it's got some pretty fun games, and there are a lot more on the way (Brawl, Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 to name a couple).

Out of the box you have a lot of stuff to do- make some mii's surf the internet with the wiimote, play webgames on wii-friendly game sites, mess with photos (and i'm guessing your not all that into checking the weather and the news, but you can always do that too).

Plus, if you want to get some old-school games there's always that option with the VC. I just got Star Fox 64, and I'm pretty pleased with it. So yeah, it's not a super nintendo with a cool controller, and you should get one if you can find one.

Wii Sports, Zelda, Godfather (even if you've played it already, have fun beating people up and free aiming PC style), Madden '07 (best on Wii), Red Steel (I thought it was great if you turn by flicking the cursor to the edges instead of holding it there. Turn off auto-aim and put the turn speed to highest for the best experience), SSX Blur (great controls besides the finicky uber tricks), Super Paper Mario (great if you like platformers AND don't mind reading a book's worth of text. I'm 25 hours in and just starting the 8th and final stage. A fun and funny game), and Trauma Center (pretty intense game, couldn't really be done well with standard controllers, took me 7 hours to get to the final mission which I spent 1.5 hours on only to not beat it. I returned it to my friend who wanted it back :p) would be my picks. You could also get Wii Play for the extra controller and some games that are very fun IF you're playing with someone else, otherwise it really is a mediocre single-player game.

There are also Call of Duty 3 (if you haven't played it already), Medal of Honor: Vanguard, and Tiger Woods (if you're into golf games, perhaps the most immersive console golf game yet... it even sports the classic control scheme for those who don't like physical immersion). As far as other more hardcore games out currently, I can't think of any. You can look forward to RE4 (if you haven't played already), Alien Syndrome, Batallion Wars 2 (RTS/TPS hybrid), Metroid Prime 3, Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Mario Galaxies, Manhunt 2, Scarface (Chainsaw! and free aim/slice), No More Heroes, Mortal Kombat (I like how they're getting rid of complicated button combos), some might consider Pokemon, and Fire Emblem hopefully all out before this holiday season.

Of course it's worth it. You forget all the new features that come with it, such as the Virtual Console, the Mii Channel, and the Wii Web Browser, Wii-DS Connectivity in the near future, and Online play by June (I think). Now game wise, here's a few things you'll get only for the Wii that make it worth it over than a gamecube: Rayman, Super Monkey Ball, Wii Sports, Warioware, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, all the great virual console games, Battalion Wars 2, Super Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Party 8, Pokemon Battle Revolution (if you're a fan :P). My current favorite game that is out right now is Super Paper Mario. It shows that the motion sensing is nice, but there are other ways to play it if it doesn't work out with motion and is a great, fun game and one of the funniest games I've played in a long time :)

"Yeah it's really fun, even Wii Sports which comes with the system will provide you with a lot of good times with friends and family (i know i have!). "

selfesteem holds my family, my friends and me back from acting like the mindless smiling people you see in Wii comercials, pretending to get fullfilled through the extinction of the necessity to go out in order to swing a bat or a racket...

what a family, wich spends quality time in front of a screen...

"(Brawl, Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 to name a couple)."

name some more, if you can...  the 3 will be quality games but nothing interesting if you are not willing to bow before the big'n'mighty "N"...

"you have a lot of stuff to do- make some mii's surf the internet with the wiimote, play webgames, mess with photos"

so... real gaming isnt the thing you can do out of the box with this gaming-console? ...and why do I have to buy a wii to experience great things such as "surfing the web"... before you answer, my PC is in possession of a mouse-device...

"I just got Star Fox 64, and I'm pretty pleased with it"

it is 2007, and you just purchased a 5th generation gaming-console...

I think you got my point... funny how you wrote all this without noticing in what a bad light it brings the WII...

if you really checked my siq, didnt you noticed my slight predilection for the new sony machine...

and okay, so you bought the Wii to play the classics ok, but you dont need a 5th generation console wich is only good for that, you could emulate every 8- and 16-bit game in existence on a PC or on a PSP with the games for free...

Chances are, (and yes I've tried) that you can't get Military Madness for the TG-16 for your computer, much less your PSP. It's also pretty convenient, I haven't played Super Mario World forever, and now I have that chance.

I'm sorry but you sound like an obnoxious jerk.   There are a lot of great games for the Wii.  Superlink was just trying to point out some of the other things the Wii has going for it.  I don't see how that puts the Wii in a bad light.  If you don't want one that's fine but you don't have to come into the Wii forum and bash it for no reason.  If your self-esteem is too low to enjoy what the Wii has to offer with friends and family then that's your problem. I feel sorry for you cause you're missing out.  Button mashing alone in your room is a much healthier way to spend your time I'm sure.

Its worth it and so is the 360.

Right now I prefer the 360 but I'm VERY happy to have both. The Wii does need more game and developes need to start focusing on more then just the remote. Like the DS a lot of the early games released just focus on the innovative controls and make too manyy mini games.

I almost consider them (Wii/360)as one console.

It is worth $250 AND MORE.  It is the only video game console that my wife is actually interested in.  I can't tell you how frustrating it used to be to be playing a complex PC or PS2 game, only to have my wife have 0 interest in watching, let alone playing.  Now she practices, and has become very good at playing SSX Blur and Rayman.  She is also excited to watch as I play Twilight Princess!  It's cool to be able to go to work and run around outside with my wife, but even cooler to fire up a game for an hour or two here or there.  I WOULD GLADLY PAY $500 FOR AN ACTIVITY THAT I CAN SHARE WITH MY WIFE! :)

At this moment in time I'd have to say no.  There are currently no must have games on this system.  My Wii just sits there until a guest comes over and wants to play it.  Most games are catered toward the "casual" gamer. Which usually means its shallow and simple.

Dude its simple and a lot of fun not shallow. I own all 3 next gen systems and I am having a lot of fun with the Wii cause itsa different way of playing games and you have the Virtual Console which has lots of cool games to download. It would not be a popular console for nothing its just to much fun.

Yes it is worth the money.  But what would you expect from asking the question in this forum.  I only own Zelda right now and it is a huge game, truthfully a little too lang for me.  The real reason I got the console though is for the VC, I love all the old games.

If really do want an honest answer, you would be better off asking this type of question in System Wars.  Majority of the posters in the Nintendo Wii will enjoy the Wii and recommend it.

I bought the Wii and love it.  I play it everyday, alone and with my family.  My wife plays it often when everybody goes to bed, which surprising because she never played any other console like that. Well worth the money.
