Is there anyway to remove the plastic covering on a DS lite?

What covering? do you mean the extra plastic protector you put onto a DS lite? I also have that detector. It looks hard to take it off, but I think it's possible.

The plastic casing? Its held down from the back with screws with a weird three-prong head I've never seen before. I tried to take mine apart when a cartridge got stuck but no luck.

That's the infamous Nintendo Screw....they've used that since the days of the NES to keep people from opening the systems or games. Only Nintendo repair technicians get the screwdrivers for those screws.

actually, if u take off the little rober thing on the side,and the screw u might can open it. I recommender not to.

You can order screw bits that handle that type of screw. I basically have a drawer full of weird bits I have hadto order in order to get into these systems for region modding purposes. It's not like Nintendo actually designedsome proprietary screw so complex that no one on earth could possibly create a bit to fit.They're just a bit oddto keep the common man out.

From a quick web search it looks like you are after a "Tri-wing Philips Screwdriver."

wha? i have a nintendo screwdriver....so i can remove the plastic covering that contains all my fingerprints and scratches?

i like the flat black look...

not really into shiny...but will my ds be easier to break then?
