Is the Wii cool? Like back in the GC era, the PS2 was cool and Nintendo was still kiddy and not hardcore. Do you think Nintendo has changed that image? Do you think the WiiU is gonna be cool? I don't think it's cool. Goes great with my 360 though.ZumaJones07
With a lazy & childish name like Wii it was never going to be cool.
IF they come up with a proper name for WiiU ..hell even if they are lazy Wii Ultra, sounds much better than just WiiU.
There was a time when demand was so strong you couldn't just go to a store to pick one up. Or at least I read about it. I was a PC gamer at the time so I didn't get to experience it. I picked up a Wii this year for the same price the DS Lite used to go for. It's amazing the trajectory this system went through. Anybody have the graph of the Wii, PS3, and 360 trajectories superimposed on each other?
Anyone who thinks owning a particular console is cooler than another has something wrong with them IMO. Lol.
It's cool beans.SF_KiLLaMaN
Cool beans?
Cool beans.
I think it's cool to most everyone except the hard-core gamers. I don't like PlayStation much but I still respect that the PS3 is a cool system, which I don't own. But I would say most of the PS3/360 gamers wouldn't say the same about the wii. But if you've ever played a mario/zelda/metroid.. game you know the wii is pretty cool.
The hipster people seem to like it though (like the apple user type of people). And of course parent's and little kids.
I liked it. Until Reggie ruined this year for me with his typical corporate greed.
So Nintendo never shall be cool for me again.

It sounds really awesome.. sad you had to tell everyone how cool it is considering it really didn't go with the subject. The wii does have some some hardcore games though. - but the multiplats like CoD, didn't play nearly as well as the exclusives. I actually liked the first Red Steel 2 quite a bit.
the wii was super cool when it first released. the wii was really cool the few years afterwards when new games were being released constantly. it was still cool midway through its life but i started to feel there was something missing (THE THIRD PARTY SUPPORT). and now its meh. only thing im excited for now is skyward sword, there is nothing else cool enough to keep me playing my wii though because i beat all the games i have and i cant find any other games to get that are good :(

Nintendo 64 - 64bit machine made sense, GameCube - a cube machine that plays game also made sense...
Wii - wtf is Wii ...oh means to sound like We - We play together ... I think they tried to copy Apple "i" thing in their name but it came out being a joke..this is my opinion, never liked the name when first heard it & still don't like it now.
My reply is only meant about the name Nintendo puts to the machine, not what type of games it has...to me the name sound childish -> hence meant for kids :P ...since Wii was popular guess they are gonna ride with it..tho I still hope they put a proper name...& not just WiiU
There was a time where the Wii enjoyed an iPod-like status. It was the cool thing to have. Then when the general public was tired of playing Wii Tennis, they realized they didn't like video games, and returned their Wiis, and that's why there's so many used Wiis available in many stores. It was a sweeping fad at one point, but all fads end.
How do I personally feel about it? I think it's a more humble system than many give it credit for. There are many great titles on it that I feel most Wii owners simply don't know about, or are too closed-minded to try, like the SMGs, Epic Yarn, Metroid Prime 3, Punch-Out, and Monster Hunter Tri. Not every game that isn't "hardcore" is bad. I followed up Kirby's Epic Yarn with Dark Souls. I beat both and really loved both (and for the record, I beat Dark Souls without ever summoning someone else). It IS possible to really enjoy both games.
I will admit that playing Kirby with my gf did make me enjoy it more, but it didn't increase the actual quality of the game, which I was very observant of. We've played several games and Kirby was probably our favourite. She made me this as part of my birthday a couple weeks ago to commemorate our wonderful Kirby time together. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y208/TotalHenshin/dsc02582.jpg

... you do realize that the Wii is Nintendo's most successful console ever, right? And that their most successful handheld -- wait no, THE most successful handheld of all time, the DS, is the one that broke away from the "Game Boy" brand?
I don't really think the Wii is "cool", but it certainly is (or at least was) mainstream. Many many people have played the Wii.

*off topic* The Master System was cool. Seriously.depends on who you ask. some people laugh when they see my wii (pun not intended), to some gaming in general isn't cool. I remember seeing an article a little while back about the Wii not being very popular with teenagers.

Well I couldn't go back too far in the timeline because Nintendo's competition today (Sony and Microsoft) didn't get into console race till 64 days(Microsoft not till later even) Point I was trying to make is that if you're going to call Nintendo lazy for their console names like Wii, then what do you call Sony and Microsoft for their highly unique and razzledazzle titles like Playstation 3 and Xbox 360? :P At least Nintendo tried to mix it up a bit, to make their product seem new and fancy.(Although WiiU is definitely not new and fancy, looks like a great console though.)
And I totally agree, Sega had the best names for their consoles.
I believe the wii is very cool to non-gamers. Hardcore gamers trash the wii constantly, but if you look at the numbers, wii won the console war of this generation. The 360 and PS3 will never catch it in sales. Nintendo is a household name, the 360 isn't, and playstation is getting there. For as long as Nintendo is in business, they will be the name the majority think of when they think of video games. A lot of people hate the Wii, but I think it's still cool because it's different from the other two.
Around parts such as these, I'm not sure if the Wii was ever really considered "cool." It was thought of more as a threat to the so-called "hardcore" way of playing video games. In fact, the "casual" term that the Wii was slapped with for much of its life is really no different from the "kiddy" label of the GameCube's. In short, it's just a way of trying to diminish what the system has accomplished by suddenly trying to group it within a stereotype that many within the video game industry, whether it be gamers, developers, or the media, can look at as an inferior group, even if that group is ultimately a made-up one.
Elsewhere, the Wii was seen as cool, until Nintendo insisted on not doing much for it. It boggles me how Nintendo has simply not been as aggressive with its Wii software lineup and how much attention it has tried to attract elsewhere. The system itself still hasn't seen a legit system-selling game since New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and the kind of fun-for-all image that the Wii has excelled at providing has been seemingly swept under the rug when it comes to Nintendo's priorities these days.
As for the Wii U, it remains to be seen what its image will ultimately end up, but if I had to bet on it, I'd say it will most likely be "irrelevant" unless Nintendo changes the overall direction of the system itself.
I like the system overall. However, I don't know why Nintendo downplayed the graphics so much compared to the other systems. I mean using a similar graphics card or whatever as the GameCube was just crazy. I'm no graphics whore and some of the games looked fantastics like the Galaxy games and Kirby's Epic Yarn, but really Nintendo? Anyway, the main thing that got to me about the Wii and most of the games I was interested in was that the games were mostly made for multiplayer and all I have to play with me most of the time are little kids so I lost interest after a while. I was so used to playing my GameCube and N64 with my friends but things have changed. :( Anyway, down the road I MIGHT get a Wii U but I'm not sure. I probably would be in the same situation as I was with the Wii and that's one reason I was never pushed to purchase Brawl....
Final verdict > Yes, I love the system and most of the games I've played on it but some of them I couldn't take full advantage of as a solo gamer. That's probably why I prefer handhelds now...
