The idea that we get to do everything we did last gen doesn't thrill me

And for the people who will say "well I didn't play the last gen games" then go to the store and get the game. That's why Nintendo offered backward compatability. So users wouldn't have to miss out on the last gen of titles.

This is a great idea for casuals and grandmothers, people who haven't played games before and missed out, anyone who's held a controller for more then this gen should be disgusted.

Well if games like Tales Of Symphonia and MGS: The twin snakes get re-released ill be a happy camper as i never got a chance to play them back in the gamecube days due to the limited supply and the disgustingly high price we have to pay for games in Ireland. We never saw a players choice release of these games, not even a slight discount on the price! They were always 60+ euro until all the Gamecube games dissapeared :(

i would agree with you except some of those games aren't even in stock anymore. Do you know how freaking long i been looking for the first tales game for the cube?

to freaking long that's how long

also a side note i saw batin kartos at walmart for i thing 50 is that game worth it

EDIT i just read your last paragraph and i have to say i'm dissapointed in you just because some people didn't play those games last gen. i mean i would have gotten them also but i have to pay bills so i really don't have much to spend on video games like yourself. not everyone is made of money

For once I agree with Jason.:| Porting last-gen games over to wii and rewrite the control system to fully support the Wii Remote isn't a great ideea.:(

At least it will give us a hint on how Pikmin 3 will control. (They're portingPikmin 1 & 2):|

They're hardly out of ideas. They just came up with a way to make lots more money with minimal overhead costs. That's a brilliant idea...just not so much for us.

I understand where you're coming from.

I only buy sealed games, it's my "thing" and I HATE (big caps saying hate) used games.

The thing is do I want to hold back everyone getting new games so I can get the old ones that I could have picked up by choose not to for whatever reason? I'm not cool with that part.

The idea that we can just keep on repeating the old games over and over and over isa poor choice at best and patronizing at worst.

The whole idea is to get new games. The Wii is about doing things a new way. We go to sites like this to see what's on the horizon. We want the latest thing.

To make us do it all over is an insult

(I also don't know about Baton Kaitos, Amazon has each one for 20 bucks)

i feel you. i kinda see why they dropped the name revolution. because they aren't really revolutionizing anything just giving us old games with a new way to play them. but im still happy with this press conference everything there excites me to no end but the old games thing is a turn off.

if they want to do that they should re-stock old cube games in stores again but i don't think that's nintendo's problem

That's still only worth around original MSRP (~$45)

I'd be disappointed in this except for one small silver lining. Now there is another chance for Gamecube games that never left Japan to shine.

Still...I am greatly worried that Nintendo is inclined on going the Zelda route for the console's biggest spenders. Yes, everyone complained when all the games we started to see were stripped down itenerations of previous games; but the solution is not to satisfy us with beefed up versions of legacy games.

Nintendo needs to stop making money grabs like it's their only trick, we know they have original content and it needs a chance to shine. Is it really worth it to punish your fan-base by shoving content that was great 5 years ago over crafting content that will be great 5 years in the future?

While RE4: Wii Edition was good, it doesn't mean that Wii owners want more re-releasing of past games. Wii already has enough ports/remakes, its like a dump for those type of games -- and now Nintendo themselves are doing the same ..

This is a good point. I never got to play OOT so I had to go find it and payed a ridiculous amount of money. Then Nintendo announced Virtual Console on Wii and I was pissed. But for G-cube games that aren't going to be on VC they are really hard to acquire.

BK:Origin is awesome, I give it 9.0 (I'm still in the process of writing a review) the first one.... meh, I didn't like it. anyway here a preview of my... review :-)

"Baten Kaitos Origin improved on everything the first one(Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean)had: better story, better presentation, better voice acting, and better combat mechanics. To be honest, I didn't like the first Baten Kaitos, for me it felt like a chore just to play it. You can imagine how unsure I was about Origin, but I couldn't resist the "buy two used GC games and get the third one free" offer. Well, let me say this ended being the best in the three I bought and is now regarded as one of the best RPGs I played. Let's see why....

...

Presentation

Apart from the initial intro, the character design went from sketchy lineart to animé/comic book art. It suits the game better in my opinion. The environment looks about the same as the first game but the overall effects have been improved giving it a more polished look.

The sounds effects stay for the most part the same as Eternal Wing. This give Origin a sense of continuity with the other game. The voice acting on the other hand have been improved a lot. The characters in Baten Kaitos felt often out of place, from a common npc in a town to the main characters comments in battle. The voices felt rushed. Maybe it was Namco's answer to the RPG deal they had with Nintendo, they didn't want to bother too much with it. Well apparently they changed their view with this one.

An other important parts in video games and specially in rpgs is the music. The music was one thing they got right with the first game, this time around, it's even better. From the catchy battle theme to the peaceful town melody, the music helps bring the world of Origin to life. It seems this time around, more live instruments have been used in majority of the songs."

or you could just go on ebay or some retail stores and buy used games for like $10 or so instead of buying the exact same thing other than the control for scheme for $50. Your choice.

I can see how this would be a bad thing, however I did find one silver lining. What about the old Gamecube games that don't work right OR don't work at all? My example of this would be Mega Man X Collection. I had the Gamecube one and when I first got my Wii it worked just fine. However when I got the component cable the game quit working. In order to play it I had to switch between the component and the composite cables. It got annoying to the point of where I just gave the game to my little brother for his Gamecube. Also, I am sure that there are some GC games that just don't work on the Wii, though I could be wrong. And I know that spending another 50 or so on an old game just so I don't have to switch cords isn't the best reason, it was just one reason why this isn't all bad. (I wouldn't re-buy that game regardless, I'll just wait for the Mega Man X games to come out on the VC).

Maybe you should go to different EBGames stores and try and find Metroid Prime and Pikmin for yourself. That is a major task because I went through it. They aren't around anymore. It was too hard to find Metroid Prime. Nintendo is also buying themselves time while they develop the other Wii games by bringing more hardcore gamers, WHO DIDN'T OWN THE CUBE WHICH WAS OVER 80% OF CURRENT WII OWNERS, a chance to experience games of the past with Wii controls. Great idea from a company perspective but bad from a GC gamer's perspective. I hope they enhance the graphics of the GC games a bit.

If you already played it then Nintendo isn't forcing you to buy it. Sin and Punishment 2 and Punch Out will be awesome!!!

Great

I'm so freaking pleased that because you refuse to buy games that can already play on the Wii Nintendo has to waste time and money making the games in a WHITE BOX so you'll pick them up.

Just color me delighted. I am so glad that because you didn't want to pick up a certain game a team that could be working on a new game will instead making one for you.

I can barely hold back my joy when I think that instead of a port they're going to remake the games.

Oh it warms my heart to see a waste of time like this. Sometimes at night I say to myself "Jason, how great would it be if they didn't release new games but made us just play everything from last gen again?" usually I tell myself I have to remind the doctor to up my dosage but no more pills to make the thoughts go away anymore.

Just because it's 2008 doesn't mean we have to play games made in 2008

2001 here we come!

And for the people who will say "well I didn't play the last gen games" then go to the store and get the game. That's why Nintendo offered backward compatability. So users wouldn't have to miss out on the last gen of titles.

I could find certain GC games like the original Metroid Prime for $5,so why would I buy a version that costs about six times as much?

Big agreement right there.Getting a past gen game in a store now is much cheaper instead of an overpriced port.

That is simply not true. The best strategy is to wait just before the console is obsolete or wait a year beforehand. Always works for me. But when it does become obsolete, prices can go up. Its very difficult to find GC games in shops, especially if you want something specific, even though they are a bit cheaper. Some of the games are still at full retail price. Maybe its just because its the GC and it didnt sell as well. As for getting them onlne, there are games I want that are only online that are still selling for full retail price. Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness is about £34.99 and Pikmin 2 is about £29.99. Ive even seen N64 games selling for £10-20, more than some Wii games (i.e shovelware or some good used games).

And to Jasonguy: do you like wasting money? Seriously, you cant buy used games? I mean It really gets to me when I dont have instructions or if there are marks etc. but places always check games to make sure they work. Ans Amazon usually give ou info about scuff marks etc. in the description. You would pay twice the price for a game just so it's sealed? Next you'll be telling me you pay full retail price for all your games. I feel sorry for your wallet.

I'm really dissapointed in the Wii. It was good for about a month but after getting a PS3 it has the content I want. I haven't touched my Wii in ages.DiabeticDood

Same here, after getting my PS3 and buying MGS4, The Orange Box and a couple of PS2 games, i rarely play on the Wii (except for some multiplayer in Brawl), but i think that all the consoles have moments, for me in right now, i'm looking for more games on the Wii for this Christmas and 2009, like LKS, ToS2, MadWorld, and of course Punch Out.

Jaysonguy loves giving his money directly to game developers. Skipping the greedy middleman in leiu of helping the gaming industry directly is what funds the creation of new games. He has stated before that he pays what he feels a game is worth, and will buy games below MSRP in circumstances that entice his wallet.

I am not like him, as I buy, trade, and rent games all the time. I've gotten used to the idea that I buy games I do not want to keep forever, but the truth is that I would still prefer to open games myself than waste time and resources procuring titles of questionable quality.

Exactly

I want my sales to reflect directly with the publisher.

If someone buys a game then gives it to a den of thieves like Gamestop then someone else buys it the publisher still gets only one sale out of it.

Did it ever dawn on you that you're not the target market for these games? They're for people like me who've never played them before and isn't much bothered that they're "last gen ports" as long as they offer quality entertainment.

Or! You could get the version it was made for for half the price (used)

Possibly, but then, the used games in the US are in pretty bad condition. If this was Japan where gamers actually took care of their games and resold them in excellent condition, then I'd definitely be more happy with a used copy.

Nah. It's pure marketing. I don't see any 3rd party games to be ported unless it's from the 3rd party itself like Capcom.

Also, the GameCube didn't have the same numbers in install base that the Wii has now. It's giving new chances to old games. The only remakes I would get are the Metroid Prime trilogy in a box set and maybe Pikmin. I was not interested on the GameCube days in Pikmin now with the wiimote I'm interested.

Just teach the people who are new to gaming how to insert a Gamecube disk

Grandma takes direction well, everyone at the home says so

This is a waste of resources that could go for new games.

You still don't understand. The new gamers that Nintendo reached won't buy a GameCube controller and a memory card to play them. These gamers didn't know that the GameCube existed and these gamers don't know about the backwards compatibility. It's pure marketing. Nintendo wants to make the new gamers into "hardcore" gamers. I like that kind of marketing.

You don't need to buy them again if you played them. I'll get Metrod Prime 1-2 for sure with the wiimote compatibility. Also, I'm sure they will have budget prices.

I'm confused by what they mean, Re-release of gamecube games(Not ports). Does that mean that their just rereleasing gamecube games as is or does it mean their some kind of graphical upgrade or wifi(Which seems like awful lot of work). Because gamecube games plus wiimote controls would be porting.

Waste of resources? How so? Nintendo is going to make a lot money off of this without putting any important nintendo teams on the games.

They're redoing the game, remaking the games

The people doing this wont be their low level staff. Nintendo doesn't use low level staff to take the trash out.

It's the other companies that use shaved apes for their remakes.

Nintendo loses manpower with this fiasco just so grandma will have it easier and be able to identify the case.

I'm thinking their just re-releasing GC games, not remakes. Otherwise why would they use the word rerelease and not remake?

If they're direct ports where Bob of Nintendo takes the Gamecube game and puts that game on a Wii disk then awesome

Anything else that would involve developers? No way

Wait, i dont get it.

We are talking about the conference that just happened right?

I read through the whole GS article and no where did i see that they were remaking GC games. Unless i skipped it. Or maybe we are not talking aboutthe conference.

But if we are, i got to say......

Punch out, DSi, Storage solution, Nintendo club

EDIT: NVM i read the Us article and not the Japanese one. Anywa, i dont mind because they still announced alot of new things, and i have never played much GC games

I really think it depends on what the game is, and how well it's redone. For example, I would love to play Sonic Adventure 2: Wii Edition if it had updated graphics and controlled like Secret Rings does.
