... and I'm already up to world 6 :-/

And I've been playing co-op for most of the way with very inexperienced Mario gamers (I've been playing for around 15 years).

I'm really upset about this. Each review spoke about how difficult it was going to be, but it's just not difficult enough. Nor is it long enough. Each world has about 6 levels. SMB3 always had around 8-9 levels.

Don't get me wrong, it's such an incredibly fun game.

But why can't Nintendo go all the way, if they're half way there. They have made a fantastic game, it's amazingly fun, the levels are challenging in the first few worlds but then they just get too easy as the game progresses. The difficulty changes, but not severely enough.

This frustrates me to no end. NIntendo went on about this game and everyone got the feeling this was going to be the ultimate 2D traditional Mario game. If they got that wrong, I officially have abandoned hope of them making any more good 2D Mario platform games.

I grew up playing SMB3, which is in my opinion the best game ever made. I still play that game and find it incredibly difficult, even though I've played through it several times. I don't care if a game is not "revolutionary" or "groundbreaking", and I certainly don't care if the graphics aren't the most advanced. Give me a good 2D side scrolling Mario platform game and I am happy. Seems like I'll be playng SMB3 forever then...

I've never found Mario games hard. From the ones I've played, Super Mario Sunshine is the hardest. I found Mario 3 to be on the easy side actually.

Mario games are easy this generation but the platforming is fun and creative in each game. The only hard super mario brothers games are the classic ones such as SMB 1-3.

I had a feeling this would be the case. I'm still planning to buy the game because it is obviously a quality game. However, it does disappoint me that Nintendo seems to be putting in less effort these days. Hopefully Zelda Wii changes that. Six levels per world does seem to few, especially if they are short and of only average difficulty.

Super Mario Bros 3 was a very massive game, or at least it seemed so back in the day - great level design, variety, lots of suits, great variety. Worlds 4 and 5 were my favorites. Although I would say Super Maro Galaxy was arround SMB 3 in terms of awesomeness, Nintendo should try to make a true 2D predicessor someday.

If you've been playing for 4 days and only up to level 6, sounds like a good difficulty setting to me. I've had the game for a few hours playing w/my 6 year old and we're up to the 3rd level now. this game is great fun, no matter what difficulty you're looking for!

Hmmm. You have been playing for 4 days. You are only on world 6 and the game is not long enough. How bout you collect all the star coins. How bout you finish the game before complaing about it. The difficulty supposively ramps up after world 5, so give it a chance. Honestly some of you people are so hard on nintendo that whenever they make a great game you **** thats its not good enough.

So in other words I should be completely uncritical of any games nintendo puts out?

I am perfectly entitled to discuss the merits and bad points of a game here. That is what these forums are for.

How bout you stop complaining about people that aren't always satisfied with everything that is shoved under their noses.

Just because only crap is available doesn't mean we have to accept the crap. We are entitled to look for more and believe there is more.

Well if you have been playing for 4 days and your at world 6, then I'd say thats great. Remember, It doesnt take very long to beat SMB3 or SMW. Also many levels in SM3 were very short, especially compared to SMW.

Well said Kuribo Girl. Super Mario bros. 3 certainly was one of the best 2D Mario games of all time to date. I have not played NSMB yet. I really want to but I hope you are incorrect about it being too easy. Maybe you are just too good at Mario games so you find them easy? Haha.

heh, glad you agree :)

Lol. I'm really not that good. I found SMB3 very hard - world 8 took me quite a while to get through.

I seriously think it's too easy. I'm sorry to dissapoint you. It is definitely still worth playing but it won't last long.

Mario games aren't meant to be completed over an entire week. You can complete any of the sidescrolling mario games in a single sitting. Including the 90 level Super Mario World. Although New Super Mario Bros Wii isn't as hard as Super Mario Bros 1 or 3, its not far off. It's definately not going to be any harder than those games either.

How many hours are you playing a day?

If it's taken you four days and you're playing 10 hours a day then that's terrific.

If you're playing for only 30 minutes a day then that's awful news.

Exactly. If I had only played through SMB3 once when I was a kid, it wouldn't have been worth the money. It was the hundreds of playthroughs that made it worth it. I'm not a little kid any more, so I don't expect to play NSMB hundreds of times through. But think of all the kids who will.

Think of the children, Kuribo_Girl.

Ive been playing Mario games since '94 and playing this game on single player while trying to get all the star coins is pretty damn hard. I was stuck on world 2 for a few hours!

I beat the game yesterday 100% but my god, its was almost as hard as Mario 2.

Shy_Guy_Red

I never got all 120 shines, and not for a lack of trying. Finding blue coins is ridiculous, and some of the red coin levels are really hard (I'm thinking of the pachinko-type level). Beating the game isn't hard at all.... but getting everything in the game is damn near impossible, if you ask me.

I beat the game, but I just couldnt finish getting the rest of the shines too. There was one where you have to get a yoshi to an island so he could open a warp pipe for you, then you had to ride on a leaf and get coins and you couldnt miss any of them or else you had to try again. It was just too time consuming and frustrating for me so i just stopped playing.

To Jordan: The blue coins weren't that hard, all you had to do was walk around each world and spray everything and you'd find them no problem, I was able to knock out each world in about an hour each. As for the timed red coins. those were the hard parts of the game for me, much like Mario World's special levels, galaxy's 3 world thing and purple coins, the last couple of levels in Mario 3, etc. The game as a whole wasn't harder then the other Mario games.

To Scythe: Ah, yah, that was probably the hardest shine, the way I tackled it was just going slowly so not to miss a coin, and if I did I merely sprayed forward and pushed the leaf backwards until I got the coin. If the leaf ran out before I got to the end then I used the hover nozzle and went to an edge, and then got the rest of the coins by jumping from edge to edge. I found that the last couple of red coins are easy to get when jumping from ledge to ledge so if you can get the first 5 or 6 on the leaf it isn't that hard. Like I said above, it has its hard parts just like every Mario game, but I don't see it as being harder then them all.

Wow glitchspot what have you done.

...i played with my friend today...we were done the 3rd world in a bout 2-3 hours. definitely the worlds seemed short, but it was a ton of fun playing with someone. It's not so much about how short the game is, since i will be going back to play it more times. Really fun game.

What do you people think about this?

Kuribo_Girl

YOUR complaining about a games length when your not even done with it!!! Its not an opinion when you do not know the answer, its a guess. Finish the game and then complain nub.

How many hours are you playing a day?

If it's taken you four days and you're playing 10 hours a day then that's terrific.

If you're playing for only 30 minutes a day then that's awful news.

Blue-N-Yellow

Hmm, I'd say on average I'm playing 4 hours a day...

Wow Kuribo_Girl, you say the game's to easy but you've been playing for four days and you're only on world six. And bragging that you've been playing mario games for 15 years  I just got my copy today and i've only played for a few hours so far but, i'm already on world four :P

Knight-Owl

You have to understand, I've been playing for a long time but I still find them challenging :p

That is, SMB3. Man, I still find world 8 incredibly difficult!

I don't think your expectations of a 2D sidescroller game are realistic.

You say you've spent about 4 hours a day, for 4 days, playing this game. That's 16 hours. For a sidescroller. And you have 3 worlds left.

For comparison, one can beat Super Mario World in less than 5 hours. Super Mario Bros 3 can easily be beaten in 4.

So let's say that you keep up your pace. That's 2 more 4 hour periods of play, for a total of 24 hours. And that's not even including Free Mode and Coin Battle, or the fact that playing with someone (or 3 others) is a completely different experience from playing the game by yourself.

There's a ton of content and variety in this game, so it's really all about how you choose to take advantage of that.

It has got nothing to do with him playing the game. Its the fact that you have complained about the games length / difficulty when you haven't even finished it. Fair enough if you've finished the game and actually know how long it is, but you haven't so you really are in no position to say the whole game is easy or short.

You're playing single player, aren't you? Then yeah, its easy on some level but if you're playing this game in multiplayer, then it is tough because my bro and I are haven't a difficult time sometimes (we've been playing mario games since 94') and we do cooperate.

Overall, if you're playing single player.. its not too hard but if you're playing multiplayer.. its challenging because you have to cooperate or competitive... whichever. Even with just 2 players playing this game is already tough.

Do you review a movie after the first half hour? Do you judge a resturant's food based off the appetizers? If you do you need brain stimulants. The point is you have not even finished the game and your complaining. My input is useless? Thats funny becuase I'm pretty sure your entire thread is. Everyone enjoys different styles of games in various ways. Therefore your input means nothing to me or anyone else on these boards.

No, I do believe she's complaining about the difficulty, not the length. Why are you calling her a "nub"? Are people noobs now because they find games too easy?

Oh, Excuse me I'm sorry. I guess one person's view of games is swayed by what others say. Learn to think for yourself.:)

Absolutely not. The point is your doing the same thing I am doing, judging someone elses opinion. You came in here, quoted some lines and threw your opinion in. Leave it at that.

Chill out, ok? She did say it was an incredibly fun game or did you just missed that? Being hostile isn't exactly the best approach if you're going to persuade other people.

Well if that's all you did, it wouldn't be an issue. But in addition to judging someone else's opinion, you insulted her ("nub") and presumed to speak for everyone while dismissing her opinion ("your input means nothing to me or anyone else on these boards"). You can judge someone's opinion without insulting or dismissing them. Now if you feel that I have insulted and dismissed you in addition to judging your opinion, I apologise in advance and hope you will point out where I have done this.

No need, for I am an adult and can handle criticism. Sorry if I've offended the OP or anyone else. I'll be sure to soften up my comments for this audience.

Criticism is one thing. Abuse is another. :) Back to the OP... have you been playing for completion (getting all the secret exits, coins, etc.) or just running through the level? And have you played with other people? If not, do you think that these might add to the difficulty of the game and make it better in that respect?

Yep. Gamers sometimes forget that we were all little kids for a period of several years near the beginning of our lives. Not every game needs to satisfy all of our needs as older and more experienced gamers. Nintendo is known for balancing games in order to appeal to the young and old alike... and they usually do an impressive job of it.
