I haven't gotten the game yet, so I can't really comment on what you said. That being said, I'm curious about something, based on how you phrased your post. Are you playing through it simply to get to the end? Or are you actually trying to do everything, finding the different secrets (coins, different exits, etc.). Sounds to me, based on what you wrote, it's the first one.

In my previous experience with the Mario games, they can be very different experiences, based on just how you play them. The original Super Mario Bros., you can use warp pipes to skip entire worlds, and beat it in a matter of minutes. Other games have similar ways of beating it earlier (whistles, hidden path using the star road, and for the 3D games, getting minimum amount of stars/shines). For Super Mario World, even if you play through it without using the star road strategy, you can still miss a lot by not finding the secret exist, leading to new levels, and stuff like that. And based on what I've read, the secrets in this game do a lot to add to the game as a whole. Since I haven't played the game yet, I can't really say for sure, but considering the fact that Super Mario World had all the special stages as hidden stages, there's always a possibility that there could be similar stages if you actually do take the time and find the secrets in the game.

YOUR complaining about a games length when your not even done with it!!! Its not an opinion when you do not know the answer, its a guess. Finish the game and then complain nub.

Captain_Lorelli

What point are you trying to make? Have YOU played this game? Your input so far has been useless.

Do you review a movie after the first half hour? Do you judge a resturant's food based off the appetizers? If you do you need brain stimulants. The point is you have not even finished the game and your complaining. My input is useless? Thats funny becuase I'm pretty sure your entire thread is. Everyone enjoys different styles of games in various ways. Therefore your input means nothing to me or anyone else on these boards.

Apart from the fact my thread has sparked an entire conversation, yes it means nothing.

Hungry Homer, you have a good point there. At the moment I'm just trying to get through it all. Based on what people in this thread are saying I'm going to get through as quick as possible (at the moment I'm halfway through world 8), and then I'm going to go back and get all the extra stuff.

Chill out, ok? She did say it was an incredibly fun game or did you just missed that? Being hostile isn't exactly the best approach if you're going to persuade other people.

Thanks... I agree that this game can be discussed in an objective way and resorting to personal attacks is pretty useless...

I didnt think it would take long for people to start complaining about this. how sad it this. Do you realize that most of the 8-9 levels in SM3 can be beat in like 45 seconds? Maybe there is only 6-7 levels in each world, which isnt true, but they take several minutes to beat. not to mention the tons of star coins and hidden secrets, canons, etc... Stop nit picking and just enjoy it.

I haven't played it yet, but I don't know why anyone would be surprised it's easier than the classic Mario platformers. It's a lot easier to market a family game that's accessible by everyone than a family game that's frustrating and requires a lot of practice to get through.

As far as length, that's actually pretty good by today's standards, if you aren't going back and collecting.

She's just expressing her frustrations....no need to take it personally. Some people are waaay too sensitive.

On the first day I got it I made to World 4. But yeah there are some hard levels, Start Coins I missed, and it can be pretty hard for some people. I've only gotten 3 continues, so maybe I might beat the game at this rate without using the Super Guide. It seems to fly by, but there's so much fun to be had that it doesn't seem so short.

I'm up to world 8 and I think the game has a solid difficulty to it, most people these days consider cheapness and trail and error death to be "difficult". The TC is probably among those people; in NSMB you don't die cheaply, you die because you made a mistake, because you didn't look before you leaped. The star coins are also a challenge within themselves, there easy to get in MP probably using team jumps and sacrifices, but alone, some of them are head stratchers and require tricks to get them. Also playing in MP, you cant really die since that bubble thing will keep bringing you back. So for anyone who doesn't have the game, take it from someone who has been playing this alone and Mario since SMB launched in the US, this game is not easy, not at all. Oh and another note, there is a reason why Red and White Toad isn't a playable character, yes there are 6 stages per world but they are much longer than the stages in SMB3, the boss battles while they use the old 3 head stomp routine from SMB3, they certainly have more life to them and are more challenging, so I have a very different opinion of the game from TC, so for those who haven't played it, take the word of the one you trust most.

it's easier probably because of the quick save, and the fact that you can go back to world 1-1 (or an easier level) a hundred times and collect lots of lives before continuing... but the stages themselves are, i think, if not harder, as hard as SMB3... SMB3 and older marios were hard because you can't "harvest" lives from world 1-1, and when it's game over, you're back from the first stage of that world with limited lives (4 i think?), with no way of getting more lives... so yeah, that's what makes it more challenging.... lack of wall-jump also made it more challenging... you can practically save yourself from falling almost everytime in NSMB by wall-jumping... that's just me anyway, i died a couple of times on both games, and i'm currently stuck on world 3 on SMB3 because i keep returning to the beginning when i'm about to finish the world.... but in SMBW i already have 20 lives and i'm only in world 2....

Well I beat world 8 today xD Took me about 5 tries to beat the final castle/bowser.

There is another area that I unlocked though :) Pretty happy about that!

You can only use quick save once per world right?

edit-Just beat the game and the last boos fight is epic neither SMB3 or SMW has got anything on it, in scope or in challenge. The final scene was pretty hilarious too and the credits FTW. Personally I believe this is the best 2D Mario has to offer.

Well thats pretty much what Mitamoto said easier than SMB3 but harder than world. I actually find SMB3 hard so I'm cool with the difficulty

I'm finding this game to be harder than SMW and SMB3, and harder than any of the 3D Marios. I've probably already burned 100 lives after 4 worlds (compared to maybe a tenth of that in SMG),

Just got the game and played for about 3 hours with my girlfriend. This game is too fantastic for words. The only real problem I have with it so far is that the music isn't the best. But that is hardly holding it back gameplay wise. It can be a little frantic with just two people so I can imagine what it'll be like with four, but its still tons-o-fun.

Edit: Oh yeah, the difficulty :P. I'm finding it to be pretty hard so far, but not in a cheap way, just challenging. Maybe its just because there are two of us though. We started off trying to get all the star coins, but gave up on that idea and decided to come back to them latter. Some of them just look impossible in single player and we used sacrifice jumps to get them.

Exactly. If I had only played through SMB3 once when I was a kid, it wouldn't have been worth the money. It was the hundreds of playthroughs that made it worth it. I'm not a little kid any more, so I don't expect to play NSMB hundreds of times through. But think of all the kids who will.

Think of the children, Kuribo_Girl.

So what you're saying is that NSMBW is a game for kiddies? :P

Yep. Gamers sometimes forget that we were all little kids for a period of several years near the beginning of our lives. Not every game needs to satisfy all of our needs as older and more experienced gamers. Nintendo is known for balancing games in order to appeal to the young and old alike... and they usually do an impressive job of it.

But you do know when you say "kiddie" or "kid" you are using a loaded term and you are opening up a can of beans that have been talked about with Nintendo since the Sega smear campaign.

Yes I do. And I'm embracing that language in order to subvert it. :)

Bringing it back... I like it. SMG and NSMBW made me remember the kid in me. Hats off to Nintendo. Respect-

... and I'm already up to world 6 :-/

And I've been playing co-op for most of the way with very inexperienced Mario gamers (I've been playing for around 15 years).

I'm really upset about this. Each review spoke about how difficult it was going to be, but it's just not difficult enough. Nor is it long enough. Each world has about 6 levels. SMB3 always had around 8-9 levels.Kuribo_Girl

The levels in NSMBW are on average about twice as long as the levels in SMB3. Not only that, but you're complaining about it's length, when SMB3 can easily be played through in 3-4 hours. I recently did it in fact.

I grew up playing SMB3, which is in my opinion the best game ever made. I still play that game and find it incredibly difficult

For real? What parts of SMB3 do you find "incredibly difficult". The only difficult levels are in World 8. The rest of the game is quite easy.

No one makes you go back and Harvest lives. It's a choice!, and in games choice is a good thing... Plus, having more lives doesn't make the actual levels any easier. The game can still be hard, but not frustrating!!!

If you look at the whole Wii catalog in general, it really isn't surprising if this is an easier Mario

I'm also pretty worried, I'm getting through the game pretty quickly.

I'm on World 4 and really haven't played the game much.

I've never found Mario games hard. From the ones I've played, Super Mario Sunshine is the hardest. I found Mario 3 to be on the easy side actually.

nintendoman562

Sunshine is "hard" because of poor design choices.

Mario 3 is unquestionably the hardest Mario game to date. If you take the time to beat every single level. Try doing World 8 and you have no powerups left. You're up the creek.
