I haven't gotten the game yet, so I can't really comment on what you said. That being said, I'm curious about something, based on how you phrased your post. Are you playing through it simply to get to the end? Or are you actually trying to do everything, finding the different secrets (coins, different exits, etc.). Sounds to me, based on what you wrote, it's the first one.
In my previous experience with the Mario games, they can be very different experiences, based on just how you play them. The original Super Mario Bros., you can use warp pipes to skip entire worlds, and beat it in a matter of minutes. Other games have similar ways of beating it earlier (whistles, hidden path using the star road, and for the 3D games, getting minimum amount of stars/shines). For Super Mario World, even if you play through it without using the star road strategy, you can still miss a lot by not finding the secret exist, leading to new levels, and stuff like that. And based on what I've read, the secrets in this game do a lot to add to the game as a whole. Since I haven't played the game yet, I can't really say for sure, but considering the fact that Super Mario World had all the special stages as hidden stages, there's always a possibility that there could be similar stages if you actually do take the time and find the secrets in the game.
