I've suggested this before but, how cool would this CoD game be?

With M+ it would be flipping sweet! A cool roman single player campaign and online death matches. Heck, even throw in a 1 on 1 vs mode for full measure.

What are you talking about? Gladiator AD is one of the most realistic and brutal fighters I've ever seen.

I'd certainly buy a game like the OP mentioned, and I think they either are or were going to produce a game like it for other systems (it was going to be Battlefield/Battlefront style gameplay set in the Lord of the Rings world). Since it was supposedly going to be based on the Battlfront 3 engine, it may no longer be happening though.

Am I the only one who thinks this would suck?

Oh well, maybe it's because I don't like ancient Greek/Roman culture.

Gladiator A.D. can as look realistic and brutal as it wants but that does not mean that it looks fun to play. Which in all honesty it looks pretty mediocre, a fighter like that (from what I have seen) looks like it will get very repetitive really quick....... The only game that HVS is making that looks pretty good is The Grinder and I'm still pretty iffy on that game (from what I have seen).

I've also always thought of a serious future CoD title. Like Modern Warfare 2142 or something. If a supr furturistic shooter played on the Modern Warfare engine I think it would just be the best game in the world.

And therein lies the problem: realistic. I don't want a realistic fighter. Realism is boring, that's why we play video games. Even with "realistic" FPS like CoD, it's not realistic because you have impenetrable magic armor and helmets while everyone else has armor made of whipped cream and skulls made of cake. It's fun because you can charge in and take 100 bullets to the face and still live while everyone else dies from 1 or 2 machine gun shots. That said, I would totally buy Ancient Warfare, IF, it were put in 3rd person I can't stand using a sword or anything of the sort in first person. But I'm all for a giant open world ancient war, perhaps take a cue from civilization, ramp up the battling times 100 and instead of just real time strategy you have to take control of a rogue warrior drifting from civilization to civilization at will, donning different weapons. I guess now it sounds like an MMORPG of sorts, and it could be that, just less lame :P.

You make a good point. Though I disagree at with your opinion of First Person sword combat, I prefer First Person sword fighting as to third person. (Morrowind may have swayed my opinion on that.) Also, your sig hurts my pride. D:

Lol maybe that's why the number 2142 was in my head when I thought of a random number...which was the point of my number lol. So make it....let's say 2352. How about that?

Anyhoo the idea I had in place sill stands. The year is inconsequential.

Looks like fun to me. Most fighters get repetitive. At least this one is supposed to have some strategy, unlike the typical generic over the top fighters that have flooded the market.

Eh, to each his own. Red Steel 2 may sway me on that, and I was even considering getting Elder Scrolls IV until I found out it was in first person, that actually killed it for me. I dunno if it's so much the functionality of it, it's just I don't like the look of it. Maybe it's because I'm in such deep love with the Legend of Zelda series that the simple idea of using a sword in first person hurts my brain. It's hard to explain, but I also like being able to look at all the scenery around me, be able to see all enemies around me so I can do some ridiculous move to kill them all and walk away feeling smug.

All in all I just prefer the 3rd person view in gaming to 1st person in general. I like third person shooters more than first person shooters (on average, I still have my beloved FPS like Team Fortress 2) and because I'm a fan of games where you venture across massive open worlds (like Little King's Story or kinda Legend of Zelda), I like to be able to take the scenery in better.

Also that's the intention of the sig. Fear not though, it will soon be back to it's old Legend of Zelda and Little King's Story glory. Perhaps I'll compile a list of games I want for it, but it will hopefully no longer hurt your self-esteem. In the mean time refrain from cutting your wrists, it'll be okay :P.

Gave this a bit more thought.

Setting: Roman Empire era

Controls: (wiimote/nunchuck) The first thing that we have to mention is that simply porting FPS controls to this game will not work. You need the wiimote to attack, so using the pointer to look won't work. Also, we don't really need to straif as no one has a gun. So here goes the controls...

Motion plus is used for your weapon. Control stick moves you. Z locks on to your enemy(like zelda). A button is your run button (just like the other CoD games) and your dodge/retreat button while locked on (like zelda). C crouches (just like the other CoD games). D-pad changes weapons. B is used for ranged attacks (Hold B to line up bow, hold Z and pull back string, let go oz Z to fire) (Hold B to ready a javelin, swing and release B to throw). Flick nunchuck to shield bash or use an off hand weapon (tilting the nunchuck would move your shield around slightly to better protect your sides and head).

About combat: Wii sports resort is a good start, but it's not very realistic. Blocking is done by holding your sword in a blocking position. Hold your weapon perpendicular to your opponents attack to stop the attack (or just use your shield if ya got one). The opponents attack will still carry through, but you won't take any damage and will just be knocked back a step and won't be able to attack for a split second (wiisports has your opponent knocked back off their feet and stunned, this is not realistic). To parry, simply attack back perpendicular to the opponent's attack at the same time. This is hard, but worth it as it will deflect the opponent's attack and knock their weapon away from their torso, leaving them open for a split second (think blocking in wiisports). Parry/counter is the most common way someone died in a fight in ancient times.

Single player: Players take the role of a Roman soldier around 170BC in the single player campaign. Like most CoD games, it is broken up into a series of missions, some small skirmishes, some raid, some full scale battles. Most would think that full scale battles would be impossible on the wii, but I think there's ways to do it. Consider the soldiers perspective. There's so much dust kicked up in a battle that no one can see more than 5ft in front of them. Also, unless your in the front line, you ca usually only see the back of your buddies head.

Multiplayer: An online deathmatch mode. This would easily be the highlight of the game. Choose your perks and equipment and kill everything in sight. These matches would be small skirmishes.

vs mode: Think Bushido blade. Choose your weapons and perks and fight 1 on 1 online or split screen.

DeeDeeDee-er

I can see where you're coming from, but if you played with it, you may enjoy first person sword-play, it kinda has a charm to me.

Also, Elder Scrolls III and IV both have options to toggle between first and third person with the press of a button, so it doesn't alienate 3rd person sword play. Hell, maybe if this idea was to be brought to reality, it would have the same option.

I won't cut my wrists. :( I'll just stab my legs. :)
