Hey guys! I got a 3DS earlier today as one of my presents and I'm super excited! It was a huge surprise. I have the one that was bundled with Super Mario 3D Land.

I have to say I'm really enjoying the system. The 3D looks neat, and I was actually surprised at how Super Mario 3D Land actually takes advantage of it instead of it just being a gimmick. I actually feel like I'm better at judging jumps when I have the 3D on. It's awesome. I'm also really enjoying Face Raiders. :P

I actually have a couple questions for you guys if you don't mind.

1. Is Nintendo ever planning to release a YouTube app? I don't mind that the browser doesn't support flash, but I do mind that there is no YouTube support. I'm on YouTube all day! It's the main thing I do on the internet, so this was slightly disappointing.

2. Are screen protectors recommended? After hearing users complain of the upper and lower screens scratching each other, I'm a little paranoid. I really don't want to place a silly cloth between the screens while carrying it around...but will screen protectors do the job? Or do I not even need screen protectors? I was planning on buying the Hori brand ones if I need them.

Anyway, I'm having a great time and I can't wait to build up my library of 3DS and DS games. :D

Happy holidays!

#1 No word yet, but it would be nice to have some kind of app.

#2 Getting a protector for the top screen is not a bad idea. The bottom screen border will eventually leave marks on the top screen. I already have those marks but it's not a big deal for me.

Do you think just a screen protector will be enough, or do I still need some sort of cloth?

I've always had problems applying screen protectors :P

I found with 3DS and DS systems you can avoid the marks from the top screen by leaving a small cloth in between the screens when the system is closed!

A youtube app? Sadly there has been no word on that, hopefully it will happen eventually... or that the web browser gets flash support. Though that might never happen since i hear flash is a battery drainer :P

never tried screen protectors, the only thing that leaves marks on my top screen is the circle pad :P which can be easily cleaned off.

just leave a cloth between the system when its closed (especially when youre lugging it around)

ive got the hori screen protectors but im wary of applying them cause i dont want to screw anything up lol.

im more worried about scratching the bottom screen with the stylus than something happening to the top one though.

I would add protectors to both sides just in case.

Get the protector, and then if it gets scratched than its cheaper to replace a piece of plastic over sending the system in. I need to buy one before mine gets worse...

i got a question, whats a good way to really clean your screen before you apply the protectors? rubbing with a cloth will just get dust on it.

Microfiber cloth, not just any cloth. They usually come with screen protectors. Look for one in a camera specialty store

What if you've got some grime on it? I won't be getting my screen protectors for a few weeks because I ordered them off of a rewards website. I'd imagine by that time I might have a bit of dirt on the edges of the bottom screen.

I do have an eyeglasses cleaning kit which has some wipes and a microfiber cloth. Would you think the wipes would be gentle enough to use on the touchscreen and possibly the rest of the system?

Yeah, I've been looking at a few things online about this. Most say it's recommended to put the screen protectors on as soon as you get the system because it will be clean. Well, that certainly didn't happen for me. Anyway, Nintendo says "Do not use any solvents or cleaners of any kind." So I guess maybe I should even use the gentle glasses cleaning solution. :/ Nintendo also basically says: 1. Dampen a cotton cloth with water only 2. Wipe it dry with another cotton cloth 3. Use tape to remove any other dust/smudges. I'd also throw in the use of a microfiber cloth in there somewhere. Maybe between 2 and 3. I've also heard users recommend using a can of compressed air, but I don't have one myself.

i wouldnt worry too much, ive had my 3ds since august and the grime isnt bad. you can only notice it if you REALLY look for it, so itll be fine. im more worried about potentially scratching the screen with my stylus.

Haha I'm not worried about the dirt interfering with the visuals... I'm just talking about cleaning it before I put on a screen protector. My screen protectors won't get to my house for a few weeks. :/

you know what, i tried putting on the hori screen thing , first the top screen looked horrible, then i looked at the bottom and didnt even bother. i promptly took it off and it looks way better. im just gonna be really careful (as i am with everything).

If you plan on not using screen protectors, then you might want to keep a cloth between the 2 screens, as the screens might get scratched. This is if the rubber pieces on the sides aren't big enough to keep scratches from getting on the screens. Something like that.

Meh. I'm just gonna give it a go. Again, I got it from a rewards website, so I'm not actually paying real money for it. :/ Also, was it that your top screen looked purple? I've read a bit about it and some users say that there's some sort of a film over the top that you can try wiping away when you're done applying it. Otherwise it might have a purple tint to it.

yeah ive been using a microfibre cloth between it. the screen protector just made the screen look like crap, not another colour, just horrible.

You ask are screen protectors recommended? This is pretty much common sense. You'll get a few small scratches here and there even with good care of the device. If you want to protect the system from that, get a protector : p

Totally rooting for screen protectors. My touchscreen protector was pretty badly scratched and I wanted to replace it. Took it off and the actual touchscreen was like new! Couldn't spot a single mark on it. Using HORI btw.
