Yea i know im late to the party but i have a question about online. This is my first time playing DS online and i wanted to know if you have to know the weird friend code things in order to play people online or is it like online rooms? Or is it random?? BTW how many people can play online together? Thanks for everything cuz im clueless :| (first time i really use my DS)

What he said, and you can have 8 people playing if one person hosts a game and 7 others join. This is different from online because you aren't really using the net, rather you're just connecting directly (it's still wireless). This option offers more gameplay types. The only downside to this one is that all players need to be in the same area (i.e. house).
You can search for an opponent and it will give you a random opponent found in the area you selected. If you have a someones friendcode, on the other hand, you can play with them instead of playing with strangers.
