Ok, well first off....WOOT!!! lol had to get that out of my system. Basicaly, i got my Wii yesterday for my birthday, and i absolutely love it. i just want to ask a few questions so i don't go off and damage it within my first week of owning one. first off, is there any over heating problems? i have mine on an open shelf next to my 360 and the shelf is completely open so its pleanty ventelated. but will i need any kind of intercooler? second, when i turn it off, should i keep the light yellow or red? whats the difference? are either safer or better for the console? i think that sums up all my questions, and i really appreciate all the help i can get. thanks in advance =]

one you don't need a cooler the wii has a fan, secondly about the colors when its yellow that means its on standby and is waiting for updates through wii connect 24, but it dosent really matter what color it is

hopes this helps :P

The Wii doesnt overheat, so dont worry. As for the light, red means the Wii and WiiConnect24 are off and yellow means that the Wii is off, but Wiiconnect24 is still on.

You're better off reading the manual, than waiting for replies from board members.

If u dont really feel like reading the whole thing, just use the index or the table of contents.

Bottom line, READ THE MANUAL.

i read the manual, basicaly all of it. it just doesnt really tell you if stand by or off is better and, even if it did have heating problems, they wouldn't put that in the manual because that would be poor marketing strategeies. so i was just getting input from other users, and it was helpful so far. thanks again for the replies.

Any supposed overheating is likely a defect. Nintendo has from what people have said replaced such units for free. The wii is incredibly power efficant. The xbox 360 and PS3 by comparison heat up an entire room with waste heat. Also third party cooler units have damaged consoles which isn't covered by the warranty since you put an unauthorized accesory on the console. Just make sure your room isn't a sauna and that the unit is not in direct sunlight as well as being in a ventilated area. Tell me did your NES, SNES, N64, GC ever heat up? If no then don't worry about the wii unless the unit has a manufactoring defect. First production runs of consoles have issues and while Nintendo has the lowest failure rate they do have excellent customer service that if you listen will get your unit replaced free of charge.

I for one have never had a heat problem... ALTHOUGH, there are issues.

If you see random flashing pixles on the screen when playing a game (this commonly happens in pause screens) this is a GPU overheat issue.  You can try a few things like unplugging it instead of leaving it on standby while running a 360 right next to it, but whatever the case it seems like a small issue that really doesn't merit doing anything more... and certainly don't spend more money to correct it.

The gpu overheating is something Nintendo will replace the wii for. Just have to send it to them if you have any game saves or vc content you bought. You can always expect a small number of failures whenever production is ramped up or begins for that matter. Heck a number of wiis got bricked by an update and Nintendo replaced those wiis at cost to Nintendo.

you don't need a cooler and leave the light red
