Only for some levels. If I remember it also has some levels in side scrolling like Super Mario Bros.
Kid Icarus is great. You can use your standard bow and arrow, hammers, and upgraded versions of the bow and such. It is like a Metroid/Mario/Zelda/Final Fantasy hybrid. The platforming is like Metroid, it uses a Mario style level system (world 1-2 and so forth), relies on items heavily like Zelda, and you can level up sort of like an FF game. Its very fun, but very hard. Check out the union for more questions.
no, the swords are exclusive to SSBB. You shouldn't let that discourage you though. There are still hammers, and of course the bow which can be very fun. You should defintly get it, its well worth 500 if you're up to the challenge.

KI is hard but far from "ridiculously frustrating". I'll admit, it takes a fair deal of practice, and is one of the hardest games on VC, but the challenge is part of what makes it fun. For 500 points you can get a true classic, in its original glory and challenge. Its a great game. Give it a chance. Once you get past the first few levels the challenge lessens, though that isn't really saying much. Kirby is the exact opposite, incredibly easy.

Kid Icarus is not that difficult. It is hard, but if you stick with it and see all the game has to offer, the pay out is worth the effort.
Weapons, leveling up, cool bosses, maze like dungeons...the game has it all!

I just downloaded it mainly when I was a kid I thought it was one of the hardest games I have ever played. So I determined to beat it finally. I find it frustrating but keep going back for more I really like it.
