It seems to me that nintendo hasn't given the attention to the ds as it has to some of its other platforms. Correft me if I'm wrong, but the only true nintendo games of 2009 are Spirit Tracks and Inside story. Maybe I'm just sad that I haven't seen any platforming mario games in a while, and the ds's 3rd party support has been so strong, or maybe their software efforts are focused on the wii, but it seems like nintendo hasn't been pumping out the ds games it used to.

In 2009 they published Fire Emblem, Fossil Fighters, The Legendary Starfy, Personal Trainer: Math, Personal Trainer: Walking, Pokemon Platinum, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box, Rhythm Heaven and not to mention all the DSi offerings. (As well as Bowser's Inside Story and Spirit Tracks that you mentioned). I'd say that's pretty good for a year.

nope, no weak support at all. you see, it's not because it's a renown series that it's not first party. and third parties also have to fill the market. not nintendo alone.

This year there were a far number of games noted above and like 50 DSi ware games. Next year though not looking very promising

Its still early though. We do already know of a few very good offerings from Nintendo in the early part of next year. Golden Sun DS, Picross 3D, Glory of Heracles and Pokemon HeartGold/Soul Silver. (that is 4 or 5 games, depending on how you look at it, in the first quarter of the year. 2009 almost averaged 1 game a month for the year so this is a good start)

Really? Next year looks AWESOME! We're getting Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver, Glory of Heracles and Golden Sun DS, ALL BEFORE APRIL 2010!!! If that is't awesome, I don't know what is.

A ton of them are only publishing deals though.

Publishing deals are support I'm not trying to say anything else but when someone wants more Nintendo games they don't really mean games Nintendo published.

It's like someone wanting a great Sega game this year and someone else points out Empire: Total War or Madworld.

The problem with looking at it that way is most companies do this and actually release very few of their own franchises in a given year. Especially a company like Nintendo that when they do develop a game, they usually do it right.

If IGN's info is accurate, then they had 5 games this year that they developed, not including DSiWare (Spirit Tracks, Pokemon Plat, Personal Trainer Math, Personal Trainker Walking, and they co-developed Rhythm Heaven). The topic creator mentioned Mario and Luigi and the three M&L games are actually Developed by AlphaDream, not Nintendo. They even have another studio helping out with their new Metroid game....

So if the topic creator mentions a game in his argument that isn't even developed by Nintendo, then shouldn't that open up to other games that aren't developed by Nintendo being brought into the discussion?

They have been focusing on the Wii more (Super Mario Galaxy 2, Metriod: The Other M, and Zelda 2011 [I hope]). This year has been more third party involved than first.

There is a difference between first party and publishing. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is not a Nintendo game, but Nintendo publishes it outside of Japan.

Alpha Dream is second party Nintendo. It is part of Nintendo.

I understand the difference, BattleTurtles. The fact still remains that we don't need multiple Mario, Metroid and Zelda titles just to have a good year. Every game that Nintendo puts their name on, whether its as a Developer or Publisher, has the chance to be a quality title. Maybe the slowdown in titles is related to a next gen hand-held in the works?

Alpah Dream is an independent developer with an exclusive contract to develop games for Nintendo's systems. This is the definition of a second-party developer. It was never a part of Nintendo just like Rare.

There is a difference between first party and publishing. Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box is not a Nintendo game, but Nintendo publishes it outside of Japan.

The Mario and Sonic games are published by Nintendo in Japan, but they are not developed nor owned by Nintendo. They were developed by Sonic Team, but are owned by the International Olympic Committee (The Mario and Sonic characters are licensed to the IOC).

In the past, Nintendo published Squaresoft's early Final Fantasy games in North America, but of course, Nintendo did not own them.
