Well, it finally happened. After so long with a seemingly "lucky" DS lite that has been quite solid for me, it is now AGAIN like all the other ones I've had before it, where there's a problem with the shoulder buttons. This time, neither L nor R button work. I'm pissed off. I think this might be the fifth or sixth unit where this has happened to me to. And unlike the others, I don't know if this one's still under its best buy replacement plan :( I'll have to re-check on that, and hope it is... because I really can't afford to just up and buy a replacement. Has anyone been able to properly repair these things in case I can't just replace it?

Have you tried blowing in them really hard? Mine have never failed, but I've heard this solves it quite often.

For some reason this works. Put your lips around them and blow.

Well the good thing is is that I'm still under the replacement plan for this one, so it should be a simple swap. Still makes this **** no less irritating to deal with, as it pretty much means that any and every game that I have that is online-enabled will forcibly wipe all the contacts and stuff. Again.

I haven't had any issues with mine. I wasn't even aware that it was a concern for some people. I know a few other people with DSlites and zero problems with L and R.

That's probably incredibly unhelpful. I'd call Nintendo and ask them how much it would cost to get it fixed. Or buy a new one on black friday. I'm hearing some good prices for new ones.

When mine has that problem, I blow in to the button and it works like a charm.

Blow on the button, no matter how silly it sounds.

Form a tight seal around it with your lips, then blow hard. It usually starts to work again.

I had this problem. And too tell you, it's a nervously pain in the neck. All you can do is try to clean the keys or press them really hard. To clean the keys, get some paper towels and wipe the keys over and over again. If you still don't fix it, try buying a new DS.

Whenever I have this problem, my shoulder buttons usually start working again after a while.

Well, has anyone been able to find a more permanent, effective fix though? blowing on the buttons has never really worked for me either. And now I actually have a fairly specialized toolkit that allows me to open up consoles and handhelds like the DS. so if there's something I should look for on the inside that would fix it, I'm not above doing that too, if it will mean an end to that source of frustration.

I would sent it to Nintendo instead of messing with it yourself.

I'm not paying an $85 "repair" fee, for one. Secondly, I've already exchanged the messed silver one for a fresh one. But I want to be prepared for when it happens again.
