I'm a dedicated wii player and I think it's an awesome console. My friends, on the other hand, all have PS3's and 360's and say the wii just plain sucks. This obviously isn't true because the Wii has some great games. I started thinking. When you turn on the TV you see a lot of ads for the ps3 and 360 third party hardcore games and only family friendly nintendo ads for the wii.

Is this a contributing factor? Has lack of advertising led to the Wii being a laughing stock among hardcore gamers?

~AND~

If they showed more ads for the hardcore games on the Wii (i.e. Deadspace Extraction) would it boost sales?

DISCUSS!

This is not a PS3/360 flaming/trolling thread. Think before you post.

I see a lot more Wii commercials on TV than I do 360 and PS3 commercials.

I see an equal amount of Wii and PS3/360 commercials. It's more about the products they are selling in this case.

No I don't think it would. The audience that would buy this game is aware of it. They just don't want it. Those who like railshooters say "this isn't anything like a railshooter! It's cinematic and not traditional!" Those who don't like railshooters say "this is a railshooter so I'm not buying it!" Those who like horror games say "the railshooter aspect detracts from the ability to make the game scary! I don't want to play a not-scary game!" Those who don't like horror games say "this is a horror game from the Dead Space franchise so it's too scary and I'm not playing it." And then no-one buys it. And then the developers pull advertising funds to cut their losses. And then they don't develop another mature title on Wii again.

And THIS is not a PS3/360 flaming/trolling POST. Think while you're reading. Nowhere does the TC bash the other systems, and as far as I'm concerned, this topic does not belong in system wars. He's asking a valid question, and I think he has a point. I think it would definitely help boost sales. I got a Wii for my gf, and only after buying one did I really hear about any of the M-rated titles that were released for it. Had they marketed the system to all audiences, instead of pidgeon-holing it as a family console, I likely would have bought one much sooner.

Advertising always increases exposure, regardless of which media is being advertised in. I'm really in no position to say what kind of advertising exposure Nintendo sees on television advertisements over Sony or Microsoft, because I record all of the programs I'm interested in and I never watch commercials.

I'm a bit in the dark when it comes to the latest and greatest sometimes, because of this, but usually I hear of things that might interest me by word of mouth. There have been a few times where something went under my radar, but I'd gladly trade missing out a few times and save hours of my free time by not watching commercials on television.

So, in conclusion I agree with clicketyclick. She makes a good point in that a lot of mature audiences that buy into game consoles know what they are getting themselves into. Especially with this console in particular, because it is geared so heavily at family and young audiences. Case in point, I do most of my browsing online and go to product specific sites and forums to look around before purchasing either locally or online. I seldom buy anything on impulse. When I have,it's usually because I came acrossed something I wanted by chance.

Except that was the thread creator. They double posted. You should take your own advice and think some while you're reading next time. Or just read more.

Anyway, I'm with clicketyclick. I love my Wii, but advertising's not going to be what saves it (and I'm not so sure it needs saving). People who are into those kinds of games need to get a gamefly account or something and give the games a chance. They know the game is there - they just are so convinced from the beginning that its a bad game that no amount of media will help it.

Don't worry what your friends think - do you like it? That's what matters. Screw everyone else.

Whoops! I actually did read that, I meant to quote Jaysonguy and use the originally quoted post... got mixed up and owned myself there. Anyway, my view still stands. On both points.

This is an excellent topic, however, I think it would be better suited for System Wars.
