You can save outside on the world map in FF III. It's not that hard. It's a nice, somewhat long game, that would be good for people first getting into the series, at least from what I think. If you don't want that, then get a pokemon game, those are always good for the summer. Animal Crossing is also good, but it's not a RPG.
You might also like Lunar Knights, It's an extremely good RPG with no random battles.
Hope that helps.
i have FFIII and it was a pretty good game... the part about the "not enough save spots" only refers to the end of the game. I mean, the entire game is pretty long, complicated, but not hard. The thing is that sometimes you are only able to save before cutscenes, and then if u lose the battle, you gotta watch the whole friggin' two minutes of the scene, and then u'll probably loose about five more tmes, so it's about 10 minutes wasted. But the game itself is about 35 hrs long, if u complete every sidequest. The part most pple (and gamespot) complain is that the final boss battle takes you through maybe two hours to complete the dungeon, and there are no saves in between.. other than that the entire game itself has countless save spots (not mentioning quicksave). personally, as an ff veteran i found it rather simple, so for a person who's just presented to ffIII it wont be SOOOOOO hard... not the ds version at least. its pretty addicting, and it makes you want to start the game all over too just to tryout new features (although i hate starting games over, i actually did with this one) so i recommend for agood game for summer, ffIII
*geez* that was a whole bunch of words... excuse my long-a$$ msg
