I'm starting to think Nintendo will continue to gravitate towards their more animated and more inviting version of Link for future games. They tried to do the hardcore graphics thing for Twilight Princess and that was quite... meh. And then they release Brawl with that same version of it in the game. But... then what?! A new character wants to fight!! Toon Link!? A CLONE!?!? But thought they took clones out...? You don't have to play Brawl very long before you realize how much better Toon Link is in comparison to adult Link. And the DS has TWO games with Toon Link in it. And now this new game. I would relate the visuals on this game more toward The Wind Waker's graphics than that of Twilight Princess. So do you think Nintendo is purposely doing this to Link to make the game seem more inviting? What if something like Adult Link not even appearing in the next Smash Bros. happened? Would that happen? ---------------------------------------------------------------- --------------- Sub-Topic --------------- In general, I think all of Nintendo gaming is becoming more inviting and more colorful. Mario. In Sunshine, I got the feeling that they tried on graphics and realism in that game (you may not understand where I'm coming from on that one). Whereas in the Galaxy games, everything got so much more imaginative and the art direction was phenomenal. Donkey Kong is most notably known for his nitty-gritty 2D Country games on the SNES. And now... this new game looks like NSMBW. That being yet another cheery game. Epic Yarn, Other M, Wii Party, and other titles have seemed to get these little "reboots". I'm thinking Nintendo may have just dropped the ball on the whole "realism" in gaming with the release of Skyward Sword. And maybe since Nintendo always gets the "knock" for being too kiddy and cartoony, they just said, "Hell, people will ALWAYS think we're the kiddy company, let's just accept that and go with it. It's working."

Adult link. Toon link was too, how you might say, meh. For me.I want to see moreof the Link from Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess.

Though of course, seeing as I have yet to see SS's release, I really don't think I can judge there.

The reason most Wii games are toony is because that style is better suited for the Wii's hardware. You have to remember that the Wii isnt a graphical powerhouse, and pushing realistic graphics is quite difficult. Its unusual with the wii because it technically is an overclocked GC, and that slight increase in speed doesnt give much of a graphical boost. So trying to make a realistic zelda game again would look very similar to TP, maybe a little better.

OMG this is a hard question. I like that they switch it up and choose different styles based on the age of Link and the world around him. toon link fit young link and the ocean feel and the style of that game, but toon would have made TP horrible. I think the new link is a refeshing blend and fits its own vibe. It is so hard to say, so I did not :P.

But then you could look at all the success it's getting from it's recent endeavors. Why go back even if they have an HD console? Their top sellers - Mii, Mario, Link, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, Kirby, etc - all fit the bill for toony designs. I'd be willing to bet that Metroid would get the most significant benefit from an HD console than either Mario or Zelda.

Does anyone else see how the new zelda looked like a n64 game on the E3 showing, or how crappy the controls were?? 1:1 movement my a$$, it's just pre-set moves like tp, but only more different animations...

And a whip!? Really?? What, Link is suddenly into SM now?? I can see how Miyamoto likes to put his real life hobbies in games...

Oh and to answer the on-topic question: I like Adult Link best, cause you know... he looks like a human being...

there was nothing meh aout their "hardcore" graphics as you call them (i assume you mean twilight princess) they were awesome for the time :D ... whats all this hardcore nonsense? a graphics style is a graphics style as long as its awesome (which the new one is) its hardcore as you can get as opposed to just doing the same "realistic" look every other game keeps going for .. .. .. whats hardcore about doing the same thing over and over again?

Ummm, I am at a loss for words. If you think this games graphics are bad for the Wii then you have problems plain and simple. The motion of the sword is 1:1 until you swing it, then it goes in the same direction (horizontal, vertical, diagonal, and the same direction, such as top to bottom or bottom to top). People need to stop complaining about the whip. Does mario look like a human being? no he looks F'd up. Are his games awesome? yes indeed they are!

I don't think Nintendo thinks like that, I think they match the visual style with the gameplay and theme of the game. Twilight Princess had a very dark fantasy story, your not going to sell that with Wind Waker like visuals. Wind Waker was like a childish adventure with the talking boat and all that stuff, it was like the Never Ending Story a little, the look definitely fit the theme. The visual style for Skyward Sword is more in line with the older games than with Wind Waker, I don't know how Other M fits into that whole theory lol. You got Samus putting dudes in headlocks and shooting them in the face. Kirby has always been cutesy, this art style seems to be more about the gameplay mechanic of yarn than achieving a friendly look. Nintendo will never go for photo realism in their games, even with more powerful hardware in the future, the characters just aren't suppose to look like Heavy Rain or something, but I don't think the visuals have anything to do with marketing. Bombed out brown and gray, just doesn't fit Mario and Nintendo wants their games to be interesting to look at and to fit whats happening in the games.

Adult Link. I wouldn't be please if they take away one my favorite main aside from Ike. But I doubt they will do that. I think they are going for the more colorful approach because it brings more gameplay elements thanks to its unrealistic approach. But I still prefer Twilight Princess style graphics over Skyward Sword although Skyward Sword graphics are starting to grow on me. Never hated it to begin with, but I still prefer Twilight Princess style....

Adult Link all the way. Although I do quite like the look of the new Link, it is a little too cutesy for me. I wasn't a big fan of The Wind Waker and that was partly to do with the little garish Link

True. I guess that would be a bit awkward for Nintendo to completely abandon what made the Zelda we know so well. I imagine, though, that maybe their has been a shift towards that cartoony side. I'm not saying intentionally, but so far it looks like it has more appeal. Perhaps the adult Link will become the what Toon Link used to be?

Yea I thought about that, but what I'm saying is that it looks a little more "toony" than other Metroid games, the most recent ones moreso than the rest.

Other M doesn't look very cartoony to me, like I said in other topics, color doesn't make something cartoony. Because the only thing I can guess your talking about is how bright Samus is. I think they did that for contrast with the environment, that wasn't necessary in Prime and wasn't really possible on the old hardware.

Cartoony isn't solely in visuals, its also in the mannerisms of the world. Like the old DKC games were extremely cartoony, with giant muscular crocodiles with, tiny legs, and big fats ones, chuckling jumping beavers and such, that is cartoony; DKCR seems to be sticking with that. Kirby has always been cutesy more than cartoony and Epic Yarn seems to be keeping that up. Mario is just Mario.

Zelda has always been the series that jumps around based on the gameplay and themes, you can go from Majora's Mask to Wind Waker to Twilight Princess, with something like Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past being a mid ground. There is no set pattern with Zelda, SS has a brighter look and probably a story not nearly as dark as TP, but the next game can go right back to that. Or Skyward Sword can be like OoT where it straddled back and forth, in the past was the world was bright and vibrant, but in the future it was dark and depressing. I don't think they are set in any specific **** especially with Zelda. Some games are just set in their ways, like DKC, Mario Kart, Kirby etc. Others not so much.

3 different styIes, not really comparable to me, and i love them all. also, they use the wind waker design on all handhelds (and zelda games that use handhelds as peripherals) since then (go ahead and check). it's just easier to process cel-shading and making it look good.
