Phantom Hourglass doesn't have much of a good storyline. (By my opinion.)
^^ Phantom Houglass had a great story! I mean, it wasn't really in depth, but it was adorable and the ending is super cute. It's not RPG quality, but still noteworthy
Um.. most people like the Final Fantasy storylines (I don't, find them kind of slow). Phoenix Wright has a great story too.
Rune Factory had a decent storyline. (Plus you could kill things and get married - how great was that!) (G)
Puzzlequest has a ok storyline, not great but ok.
Sims: Urbz has a great storyline. Plus it's replayable as you get to choose what gang you will join from 4.

Zelda is not RPG. Try to remember that, would you

Ugh, thanks for the great contribution. Why do people have to be such geeks about putting games in certain genre's? Zelda is a game in which you play the role of a hero on a quest.
And, he didn't even say it was an RPG. lol.
There's a Dragon Quest coming out soon, those usually fulfill the hearts of RPG players pretty well. From what I can remember the story isn't super amazing but it's not all that bad either. If you're looking for something with depth, it would go over Zelda and hang at the same level as Final Fantasy games.
While we're on the tone of Final Fantasy, do not get III. The characters in the game are fairly bland and practically have no opinions on anything that's happening. Majority of the NPC's are also lifeless but every now and then you'll come across a diamond in the rough.
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 will also have an interesting story. The main story keeps pretty simple and presents itself every now and then but you do meet a lot of interesting characters, see a lot of interesting things and the gameplay is great.
If you're planning on getting Zelda, the story I would say is good but pretty non existant. It follows basic Zelda structure with intro, plot twist in the middle and then the end. The difference however is that between these three points there's even less of a story going on. Most of the handful of NPC's you meet are at peace and the rest of the islands are pretty lifeless and serve the purpose of getting treasure. In general it is pretty weak (good, but weak) however at the end of the game you'll get a final plot twist that'll make you (atleast it made me) smile. If you've played a specific retro Zelda game you'll realize that the whole game was kind of a nod towards it.

I think Zelda Phantom Hourglass has a pretty good story, and Final Fantasy IV has a really great story.
No one's mentioned Partners in Time. It's not serious like TWEWY, but the DS doesn't really have many epic storylines, and the writing is so clever and hilarious that no one should really have any qualms with its small scope.
IV had a good storyline, but not epic, amazing or even great. There are far too many flaws and silly moments where you think "Why would he do that? It doesn't make any sense" and extremely cheesy sections, but next to its competition its good enough.
The Ace Attorney series is certainly something to look into. I still prefer the first the most (after, I thought it lost some of its charm) and the gameplay is a bit slow and not for everyone, but the comedic character designs and interesting cases are great.
FFIV has a definite epic story. great cast of characters it's based on
Phantom Hourglass has quite a good story, and good characters
Prof. Layton: is a decent story but in my opinion the game is destroyed by the vast amount of cut scenes. Remember that one is simply a puzzle game though and destroyed might be a strong word!
Zelda: perhaps not the best story on the ds but goes really well with the game to make it well worth buying!
Wot do people think of the hotel dusk story?? Not played it myself?

What do you mean CUT SCENES? They were the best parts! Its like a cartoon, but the music is amazing, the ending was an epic win!

Althought the story doesn't come close to that of TWEWY, Phantom Hourglass is still a must own game for any one with a DS. The gameplay, althought it may seem odd (only touch screen) is remarkable.
