Title says it all. My favorite video game of all time is Okami because of the great story, artwork and how even tough tasks were fun. I liked Zelda for the story also, the relistic-ness and just the scenic lands. I am not really looking for any sort of games including Mario and "friends", just a good fun adventure game. Thanks! :)

If you're looking for fantasy action/adventures that have open worlds, your choices are pretty limited. If you've never played Ocarina of Time, I would suggest getting a 3DS and picking up the remake when it releases soon. Or waiting for Skyward Sword to hit the Wii.

You could give Zack and Wiki a shot. It's more puzzles and adventure though, without much story or action, but it's more similar to those games than most anything else you'll find.

Fraid I have to disagree: it would be Majora's Mask.

Lol Zelda argument. There aren't many things on Wii that really emulate Zelda (besides Okami which you already played), but yeah, if there's any good Zelda games you haven't played yet, give them a shot. They all have their own unique qualities and are certainly worth consideration. People sometimes draw comparisons between Zelda and the Metroid Prime series. Prime has a lot of environmental puzzles and exploration and the like. Someone mentioned Zack & Wiki, and yes you should probably look into that. It's kind of a point and click adventure so it's a little different from most modern games in the adventure genre, but that's also one reason it stands out.

How the hell do 3 wrong opinions in a row happen simultaneously? That's got to be a record, at least in the wii forums anyway

EDIT- Oh how thoughtless of me. It must be because you haven't had the chance to play the best Zelda game yet, and for that it's understandable. No worries, it's availalbe in quite a number of ways.

Indeed. The original Zelda can be bought on both the Wii's VC and GBA if you never owned an NES. :P

You guys might want to clean your nostalgia goggles if you seriously consider the original LoZ to be the best in the series.

Well as far as artwork and story go, Muramasa the Demon Blade had lovely artwork and two stories with multiple endings. It is a 2D side scrolling world (you don't go in just one direction though), but there is still some exploration.

Well of course if you want action adventures there are plenty of Zelda options on the Wii. Unfortunately the system doesn't really have many action adventures other than Zelda and Okami but you could go the Gamecube route. It has Star Fox Adventures, Beyond Good and Evil and Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy. Most of those games run in widescreen 480p too so it won't be that different than playing a Wii game. Eternal Darkness is a good choice too, although it's more level based instead of open world.

What was your favorite part? The painfully archaic thrust-only attacks? Or the "always start at the center of the map" BS? I find it hard to play the original LoZ for the same reason I have trouble going back to Metroid 1: Even though I grew up with them, they've been surpassed by their 16-bit sequels, and their controls are objectively stiff in comparison. It's like playing Castlevania 1 after playing CV4 or SotN. I'd say ALttP is the best, due to how it refined the formula to perfection, and Link's Awakening in at close 2nd as it managed to keep said refined formula and even add a bit to the gameplay.

Or how about the way it laid down the basic formula that every other Zelda has followed, the most open-ended world in the series that let you go almost anywhere you wanted from the beginning, the challenging (though not overwhelmingly so) combat, and epic boss fights?

You know what, you're damn right. From an objective standpoint, I guess LA was the best of the 2D Zeldas. Perhaps nostalgia is telling me ALttP was best, haha. Well... I enjoyed ALttP the most. But LA was astounding and surpassed it in hindsight.
