I plan to get both but I wonder does it matter in what order I play them. Is thereback storythat would make TP for fun if i played theearlier one first? Anyone own them both and have an opinion?

It's a tradeoff, OOT has a little more to it, but TP looks a lot crisper. Storyline-wise, it doesn't really matter.

I would play OoT before TP just so the graphics of OoT don't seem so dated.

OoT was a better game but TP was still great.

I personally prefer Twilight Princess, but it doesn't really matter what order you play them in, at least not story wise. You may find yourself becoming more annoyed with the controls in OoT after playing with the incredibly tight controls of TP though. OoT really should be played with an N64 controller.

You can play the Zelda games in any order, none of them are connected story wise but they do share some of the same characters. Each game is it's own game with there own similarities being in the gameplay, some story, and characters.

While the stories are not directly connected; Twilight Princess does make a good amount of references to Ocarina of Time, so you might as well play Ocarina first.

Ditto. When I ordered Windwaker, I got that disc with OOT and the Master Quest. I had to give up OOT because the Gamecube controls were so frustrating.

Ocarina of Time should be played first, because it's nice to meet ganondorf properly.

It's not unplayable, not by a long shot, but referring to the button displays on the game screen can become troublesome since they aren't the same on the Gamecube controller (Unless you're playing the version that was released for the Gamecube), it's probably even more confusing with the Classic Controller. You get used to it, but I sometimes find myself pressing the wrong buttons. I never had that problem on the N64.

Not super frustrating, but it came to a head for me when I was at the shooting gallery. It was impossible for me to accurately aim the bow with the GC controls
