Lucasarts President confirms (Wii) Lightsabre game

In a recent interview, LucasArts have confirmed that a Lightsabre game for the Wii is in the works...

One of the first things people thought of when the Wii Remote was unveiled was a Lightsabre. LucasArts have hinted to a Lightsabre game many times, but never confirmed it. Until now.

Specifics of the game are unknown, we don't even know if it will be a new game, or a port of something like Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. All we do know is that LucasArts have prototype Wii Lightsabre controls in place.

"We're all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It's a lot of fun, and we'll get there." said Jim Ward, President of LucasArts, when asked about a Lightsabre game for the Wii. He also added that the concept was ""...in place! There'll be some stuff out this Fall - it's going to be a lot of fun."

It should be noted that retail has Star wars force unleashed listed for Wii and that Lego star wars the complete trilogy is in development for Wii too. Is it those games? :)

I hope it's KOTOR. If lucas arts does this it would hit four birds with one stone.

1. Wii would get a solid and deep RPG

2. Wii would get a great star wars game

3. Lucas arts would get a bucket of money from this, I'm sure.

4. Bioware would expand it's horison, not to mention get a new fanbase.

I hope its not a gimmicky on rails light-saber thing, ala' Dragon Quest Swords. But whatever it is I really want to see some footage. Something akin to Jedi Academy with much improved Zelda TP controls could work really well.tomarlyn

I think most people imagine a first person 1:1 game. But it would be far easier to do a 3rd person game.

Lightsaber game, hummmmmmmmmm.

it could mean:

-a KOTOR game or game using the same engine in a diffenert era, like the Lagacy era (Over a hundread years after the movies, so everyone from them are dead by now) or New Republic Era.

-a Jedi Knight Game

-a Rail slasher like Dragon Quest Swords

-a Dark Forces Like FPS

but anyway, ill buy it!

I'm really looking forward to this. I hope its much, MUCH more than just what Red Steel had to offer. Either way, Red Steel 2 was confirmed to up the sword fighting a lot more.

I'm really hoping this is the new Halo, with online play, maybe forces, including some guns... but I'm definetly hoping for an online game. I mean... it's LucasArts, they should be able to give us atleast that right?

Last year when those fake Star Wars Wii pics where going around I had a dream where it was going to be about Palapatine, his rise and fall. It could have covered his past(which is generally unknown, like his master, him killing his master, him fighting Darth Maul to see if he was worthy of being his apprentice, etc) So much could be done.I t was jsut a dream but a damn fine one. His is my favorite character and I would love for them to cover his history in a game. A game where I could swing the saber and use the force in the pseudo-VR that is the Wii. I will surely play it what ever it is about.(but it would be such a great idea. IMHO)

Its awsome thats there gonaa be a lightsaber game for the wii and no i dont think its lego star wars because that isnt really a "lightsaber" game. niether is Force unleashed seeing as the main focus is the force, hence the tittle, but it is more possible that Lego Star Wars. i think it's going to be a new game made specifically for the wii. Im personally hoping for something like Jedi Academy, but ill be happy with anything thats fun with good controls.

Wow! This is great news! It would be awesome to customize your own light saber, and its a first person view, and the lightsaber moves around every which way with the wiimote, I ope they nail the controls...Im thinkin of a title like Star Wars:The Force within or something idk! But yay!!!!

Yeah but it would rule if you could like Force choke someone and pick them up by using the Wiimote, then proceeding to throw them across a room by thrusting the Wiimote forward a bit.

and it comes out of the wii mote speaker!!!!!!!! i just wanna slice and dice some stuff with a wii mote! u know they could be referring to lego star wars ?

A port of star wars the force unleashed would be pretty cool, but I hope they put a lot of effort into it so it isnt repetitive or gimmicky and hope its not just a basic swing the wiimote all the time hack n slash game. Being able to use force powers with the wiimote would be pretty cool too, like force push, you could maybe flick the wiimote forward.
