So I just got a 26" LCD HDTV and I went to GameStop yesterday to get me some Component cables for the Wii, the guy showed me a Universal able that works for a Wii, PS3, 360, and PS2. It also cost $14.99 and I did not see any official Wii ones around so I said what the hell I will get these. So I get home and hook them up to my HDTV turn on my Wii, it boots up, but the screen is on Black and white, I think well maybe i just have to adjust it to 480p in the settings menu, I go to do that and I cannot select the EDTV/HDTV 480p option.

I decide to check my connections no problem and in the right places, I unplug them and plug the back in same thing, I unplug the Wii and plug it back in same thing, bottom line I can't figure it out. So I was wondering if anyone of here knows of this problem and even better can help me out with it, I would be very grateful and thankful if anybody could, if you can please reply ASAP!

I'm really surprised you're having trouble withsomething MadCatz made, because they have such a high reputation for quality. Sarcasm aside, you should take it back.

Since it's universal, I'm assuming it comes with different adapters for the various consoles. Is the connector on tight? Is it on the right way? I'd check that.

you have done everything right, MadCatz things are pretty hit and miss, soI would just take it back and tell them that it is incompatible with your tv. Also for future I would buy periphials from Circuit City, the have the most generous return policy, much more than Gamestop.

*Sigh* Yeah I guess taking them back really is the only solution, I was hoping it was some easy fix I was missing somehow. What is GameStop's return policy if you would be so kind to tell me Sepewrath?

Well it depends last I heard there not suppose to take back open products but that may only apply to games. However if you get a clerk who isnt a total douche they will probaly take it back, and at the very least give you store credit. The info should be on your reciept.

I work in retail too so i know how this dance goes, and I know the store manager of this store decently well also. Plus, the receipt says I can return any accessories within 7 days of purchase, if they try to screw me over I will just ask for the store manager and hopefully they will just up hold to what the receipt says and give me a refund, hell I would not even mind store credit if I could get me a Wii component cable that works.

The Nintendo cable works great. It costs a little more though.

Just in case anyone else has this problem... I bought the "Gamestop" universal component cable and had the "black and white" screen issue as well.

SOLUTION!!!!!

There is a switch on a black box in the middle of the cable that says "tv" and "HD tv". If the switch is set to tv I get a black and white screen from my Wii. If I switch it over to HD tv, VIOLA! Color is back.

Hope this helps.

THANK YOU! + Karma to you!!! I googled this problem just now, got this thread and bam! That right there is the answer. Thank you again. Such an obvious solution. I feel silly for not noticing that switch. PS: LOL We both have SpongeBob avatars! What a cowinky-dink.

@Johnny_Rock: Thank you so much for that solution! I was getting really disappointed that my brand-new cables were going to work for my TV. Much appreciated.
