Personally.....I'd turn it off...but I do believe it has something to do with the D-pad on the Wii-mote and the motion, but not totally sure.  Passing is so much easier to me without the QB vision mess.

....the book on Madden says to move the Wii-mote left and right after holding the C button...:?  But you probably already checked that right?  If so, sorry for the reiteration ....I do know that you change recievers with the D pad and use the Control stick to manipulate the (slight) trajectory of the ball. Good luck!

American footie as you call it, has evolved a bit over the years, but not too much terribly.  The main focus of American football is tricking the defense into buying into thinking rabbits, and then pulling a rat out of the hat (so to speak).  The Defensive schemes in modern football have gotten smarter, and are cleverly disguised to look a lot a like.  Therefore, just like the offense the defense  varies a good amount of time using visual trickery to outsmart the QB and/or Running backs, and Receivers.  So it's not uncommon to see the defense use what looks like the same formation multiple times, but change up once the ball is snapped.  The QB has the option to change plays according to what he (thinks he) sees the defense showing (what their about to do....blitz, pass coverage....e.g.).  It's all a gamble by either team, and the main objective is to mix up the play calling, and trying to do so using similar formations as not to telegraph what you are about to do. If you accomplish your goal, you can move the ball 10 yards at a time or more, at least to get the first down to continue the possession of the ball.  That is when you are on offense.  When you are on defense you are trying to do the opposite; by trying to get to the QB or RB, intercept passes, pick up fumbles, and of course the defense can score touchdowns too.  So anyway, hope this helps.......any other questions ...just post specifics......This is about as detailed a synopsis can be without being to long and dull.

The best way to get the ball back when you're on defense is just to get them to 4th down so they punt it to you. Mix up your defence plays so the CPU doesn't see your pattern and screw you over. If it's 3rd and long, where you know they're gonna pass the ball, I like to blitz with 1 or 2 players to put pressure on QB and that usually turns out good...unless they throw a screen pass or a short route...but yeah, mix up your plays and attack their key players.
