Can someone explain to me what qualifies as "good" sales? I don't have a very good grasp on what numbers really mean. To me, 150,000 seems like a lot, but some have been saying (well, many have been saying) that MadWorld has been selling like crap. Obviously, compared to Nintendo's games which sell over a million, it seems pretty bad. I don't know. Help me out.
you've got to remember that sales of games goes along with total sales of wii so lets say the wii sold 40,000,000 units, to me, this is how sales would go: 0-10,000 = terrible 10,000-50,000 = bad 50,000 - 100,000 = mediocre 100,000 - 500,000 = good 500,000- 1,000,000 = really good 1,000,000+ = awesomeCan someone explain to me what qualifies as "good" sales? WRONG
it depends in the cost of production
Square said thatthe nextFF game have to sell 10 times more than a normal game to make a profit while the blob is now a strong franchise to THQ with 700.000 units sold, NMH was the mostsuccsesful game in SUDA51 history with 400.000 units sold
it depend on expectations anyways

there's no general rule for a game to be profitable so we cant talk about sells in "general"

the question was asked about "good" sales, i gave an explanation based on what I, keyword there, I thought.ok, my thoughts are that if you want to know if a game sells good or not you must make some research
for example THOTD, Sega came out saying that it meet their expectations
so for that game 200.000 were "good" sales at that mommentIMO but well I think there's no point to argue anymore, I hope at least he can figure out what good sales are
Lol hansolo ok, we get your idea. But seriously.Madworld...Compared to FFXIII...Seriously...Are you not getting the slightest idea just by looking at the product history? FFXIII is spending in publicity more than Madworld spend in the whole production, marketting and distribution costs. Some games have been developed under 1 million budgets. We dont know the exact numbers, but we can make an educated guess. Madworld was developed in a few months by a small studio without external funds....(while FFXIII has years , several years in production,HIGH salaries, huge staff, inmense technology development).FFXIII might have an investment 20 times more than Madworld easily. By putting this in perspective, MW is probably making profits as it is now. Why?sega reps were satisfied with the sales direction before it took off?.What did it means?they invested a small amount into production, so probably by the time they said that, the game was making money already.intro94
I put FF as an example, I'm not comparing madworld with FF (I'm not high) dont misunderstand me...
at least you get my idea from what i've read lol
good
Madworld is selling horribly
The worst thing is that it had a ton of TV advertising so the idea that "all a game needs to sell is advertising" has been proven wrong.
People just did not want the game. Sega thought that with the huge install base the Wii has they would be able to find a section to sell to and they were wrong. It's just not a title that people want to play.
We've been over this already Jason. It did not have a TON of advertising. It had some late night spots on MTV, Adult Swim, and Spike TV. A commercial that plays sometime between Squidbillies and Manswers is NOT prime advertising. You're being mean and negative for no reason, VG Charts projected sales are around 200k, which is admirable for a smaller scale game such as MadWorld. I don't know why you're being so mean about this, especially since it was unprovoked this time.Madworld is selling horribly

I haven't seen any Madworld advertisement. I can see that because any bit of gameplay is too gruesome for commercials.
I bet there are alot of gamers like me. Buy short, but great games when price lowers. I loved Madworld, but I prefer playing $60 for good length games.

lol do you know how dificult is to make a new IP to sell as madworld is selling¿?¿? look at deadly creatures as an example
BTW agamethat havent been released at japan that sells 200k in two moths isnt selling"horribly"
Jason... Jason... you surprise me more everyday

I don't know why you're being so mean about this, especially since it was unprovoked this time. It DID have a ton of advertising. I remember watching UFC fighting 2 weeks before Madworld's release, and even after release it continued to advertise. The reason it was on late at night on MTV, Adult Swim, Spike TV, etc, was because this game was directed a hardcore mature gaming audience. These channels are precisely what these type of people are at- in late nights. It keeps away children from seeing them much better and correlates to the type of demographic area. And yet, Madworld really is selling horribly, still.like excitebots.wait.its selling twice as good as excitebots.Just saying..almost no wii games sell better than games than madworld except for the top 10(in the lines of wiifit or wii sports, and mario stamped games). Is also selling better than Tales of Symphonia did.Is selling better than deadly creatures. Its selling better than Tenchu. Shouldnt we have a gamespot headlines saying how teen, and E games are failing to sell on the wii too?since "E" AA games or "Teen" games are selling worse than Madworld or HOTD?no.They are not failing to sell because they are actually selling.Madworld is selling better than Bully, than The Godfather, better than a lot.But why we didnt hear about the REAL bad sales of other titles, but we hear that from a small budget rushed game that is selling way better called Madworld?thats the question. What about Sonic games released from Sega?why the interviewers dont come asking with Sonic black knight is selling as good as Madworld?and Sonic Black Knight is selling just the way the previous Sonic game did.Reached almost a million over time. But noo,Sonic the black knight is selling alright, while Madworld is selling bad, despite they are selling at the same rate and have the same numbers.Enough with the dual standarts.intro94
dont try to argue with people without arguments, look at Jason guy, hedont evenhave balls to come back and give solid arguments to say madworld is selling bad
they are here to bother, thats all

It did have a ton of advertising for it's demographic.
It was aimed at the 18-28 user. The ones that watch Adult Swim either when it starts or at 3:30am or beyond when they get in from going out for the night.
You're making it sound like you'd rather the ads went on at noon during soap operas and talk shows.
Sega aimed it's ads at the people who were going to buy the game. They did not want ads to air during the last episode of ER because the people buying the game were not concerned with seeing Clooney one last time.
it had a ton of TV advertising Jaysonguy
